Yeah and the funny thing is that LG's branding always confuses customers. People always assume a more expensive TV should be better. But in the end the C model is just where it's at if you ask me. For some reason my dad went with the G7V, it comes with a built-in soundbar. He has a proper 5.0 set-up with tower speakers in the front. Sometimes I really don't get him. He's reluctant to spend money on something like a Sonos Port/Bluesound Node for proper music streaming but he does spend it all on features on a TV he doesn't need.
The E series looks slightly nicer to me, and has better in TV speakers, but realistically you could use that offset cost on a much better sound setup anyway
I thought I thought of everything and in the end it's the damned HDMI cable that does me.
The Denon sounds nice. Definitely an upgrade over the Sony, though it might be mostly the presumably better room calibration.

I know the built in room calibration isn't top tier for these receivers, but it really helps IMO. Though I've not had one calibration across any of the receivers I've owned where I didn't have to increase the center channel volume individually after.
By Daz Go To PostWhere are the pics, Zabo?!Need to tidy this shit up before I'm comfortable taking pictures, still WIP.

So far so good on the Denon tho, but it's too early to tell.
It's too bad the Nvidia Shield can't do Dolby Vision, looks like I'll have to rely on the built-in Netflix app, which is a bit of a nuisance, but I've gotta say LG's WebOS is pretty fucking great, certainly compared to the trash that's in TVs out there.
I have only used the OS sparingly because I have an apple TV, but my apple TV and denon reciever was finicky with Dolby Vision as well. I spent days trying to figure out if it was the cable, my receiver or something else like a connector / jack. It was a setting on the receiver that displayed the volume on the TV when changing levels. Prior to this I was only able to get HDR 10

Yeah, it's gonna take me a week or three to figure out all the little tricks and settings correlations, but I'll get there.
I was fucking around with the PS4 Pro a bit earlier and was at first unable to get it to output a full 4K HDR RGB signal, but that was an easy enough fix, just had to set the output mode to "enhanced" on the Denon. I might as well connect the PS4 directly to the C9 and route the audio via eARC tho, since that's how I'll be running the PS5 to get the full HDMI 2.1 experience.
Is the HDR calibration tool in PS4 Pro's settings menu useful at all? Seems fairly basic, but I guess each game that's worth anything has HDR options of its own.
Also, I need to get me a couple of HDMI 2.1 compliant cables, mostly for peace of mind and because I don't want to fumble around with cables in the foreseeable future. The back of the TV cabinet is messy as it is. Unhook one device, hook up the new one, that should be the extent of it.
Also also, HDMI CEC is kind of a mess, isn't it. It works great as long as you have 3 devices talking to each other - TV, receiver and one AV source. As soon as you start throwing other CEC-enabled devices into the mix ... suddenly everything is controlling everything, everything turns on everything. Well, not quite, but I find it to be more of a bother than it is useful. So enabled on the primary AV source, disabled on all others for me.

By Fenderputty Go To PostHDMI 2.1 is fully capable through the ARC channel only?HDMI 2.1 has eARC, which greatly increases the audio bandwidth. Currently Optical < ARC < eARC. I think for 5.1 any are fine though.
Most receivers don't do HDMI 2.1 out though, so if you want 4K120, VRR, etc. then you'd need to go into the TV and send the audio from that to your receiver
By Zabojnik Go To PostThe prices of some of these HDMI 2.1 cables, whew.Thats not a very Slaent Elite comment to make.
I'm as faux-elite as they come. It's a way of life.
Well, since it's looking like I'll be using C9's WebOS apps a lot, I need me a 90-degree network cable / connector, because a straight one gets absolutely squashed against the wall. Using wi-fi, the pleb way of connecting to the intertubes, is obviously out of the question.

$20
Hence the 'some'.
The problem is that most if not all of these cables are not certified, the majority of the ones you see on Amazon were available before the spec / cert was even available. Might work just fine, some HDMI 2.1 features might work, others might not ... Seems to be a bit of a shitshow right now according to the lads over at AVSForum, so I think I'll wait for PS5 and RTX 3000. Options should considerably more abundant in 4-5 months.

"Some" 2.0 cables are also worth a whew. $200+ for no reason other than people think more expensive = better. Don't see that stopping with 2.1 .
And its probably best to just wait, yeah. The implementation of 2.1 has been horrible. Some manufacturers moved it to their 8k line , some like Sony have made it available on cheaper, but not top end sets. Or in the case of their OLEDs, not at all. And then LG reducing the capability of their ports on the CX. It really is bizarre.

Ahhh I think my receiver is 2.1 capable but have to confirm. Thanks

I don’t think my cables in the wall are though. Which would mean I have to run an exposed cable up to my TV that’s wall mounted to use the eArc 2.1 stuff
Fuck me my hdmi cables in wall are only 4K 60hz rated. I guess I can connect and disconnect the PS5 when in use. I guess it won’t matter if the PS5 won’t utilize the 120hz though. I’m may be tripping on a thing that mostly you PC lads will use
By Daz Go To PostWhen did this shit become so complicated?
Transition period for a key spec (HDMI).

SO I can connect through receiver most of the time and the occasional game that may use 120hz can be ran through the eArc port. Super pissed I didn't think about 2.1 cables in wall ...
By Fenderputty Go To PostSO I can connect through receiver most of the time and the occasional game that may use 120hz can be ran through the eArc port. Super pissed I didn't think about 2.1 cables in wall …How long and complicated a run are we talking? Are you pissed about the fact that there's no easy way for you to route new cables through the wall or that you didn't install HDMI 2.1 cables? Because if it's the latter, as mentioned, proper HDMI 2.1 cables are only now becoming available, so unless it was a recent installation, there's nothing you could've done about it.
Now see, this is how you do a fucking HDMI-CEC settings menu.
It pains me greatly that there's no Dolby Vision and YouTube HDR support on the Shield. It's so close to being a perfect device. :(
EDIT: Apparently the 2019 Shield does support Dolby Vision via Netflix. Hmm, that + the sensational AI upscaling might be enough to get me to sell my 2016 Shield, pay the difference and get the new one, provided I can find one in stock.

Install was about 10 months ago. Pathway behind wall has to run Across and through multiple studs and into A chase behind my fireplace shiplap. Drywall and ship lap are up. Without major construction, it’s impossible to re-run the cable. I have devices on both side of my fireplace cause of all the in-wall cable I ran. It’s clean at least. Lol
Fuck lol ... I even sealed the fireplace chase with that expandable foam so my in wall speaker had an actual box like structure behind the wall
We shall see if PS5 will have much that will utilize the capability. If not, single use eARc port won’t be bad
I got a C9 today, it’s incredible. Noticing details and colours that my LED couldn't do, plus omg those amazing blacks.
Very very impressed so far. Can't wait to watch some films on this bad boi

A lot of places here offer 0% financing. The only reason I didn't use it is because my billing address doesn't match my delivery address, and they refuse to deliver to a different one :/
By Freewheelin Go To PostNormally yeah, but i got 0% interest from PaypalI should look into this - the only financing I saw was Curry's and it was absurd.
