Love is coming to play for Portland? I wouldn't mind Love at PF and Aldridge at C. That's cool.
And you thought portlands problem was to be solved by playing even LESS defense?

I can see Fisher being a decent coach. Dude wasn't the best PG, I'd say he was only half decent, but he also virtually never played a game for 4 straight quarters. And he was on teams that consisted of players like Kobe, Shaq, Durant, Westbrook, all of whom can/could (past tense) create their own shots and don't rely heavily on a point guard. Still, he knows the game, and in the years past Jackson has always commended Fisher for being the best leader on that Laker squad (which Kobe used to hate hearing), but I suppose there was truth to that.
He was also a pest defensively in the early 2000s, up until he was traded to the Warriors, where he regressed as a player considerably and probably never recovered that defensive mentality. But he absolutely crushed Iverson every chance he could in the finals, and a lot of other guards didn't like being matched up against him.

Marbury was more polished as a basketball player than Smart.Smart has CP3's attitude.
Not sure how well that will translate to a #2 or #3 guy though.
Smart reminds me of Starbury a lot …
Have you listened to Marcus Smart speak in interviews? He's nothing like Starbury.
Really impressed with him. Don't love his skills as a basketball player, but he's a great kid.
Starbury was a decent speaker coming into the league
Also I was speaking more from a basketball player than an interview

Laugh at falling short of winning a championship again, wasting KD's prime, and driving him one step closer to free agency.

You can add Deron to that list of past tense too.
LOL Phil. Just come home and be a family man. You've accomplished enough in this league, no need to tarnish your legacy with the Knicks.
But please hire Fisher before you leave.

So if Fisher becomes the coach of the Knicks is he going to quit in December and go be an assistant coach for a contender in March?

No, but he'll take Phil's place when he eventually say fuck it and go back to Jeanie.

Phil has no fucking clue what he's doing right now and quite frankly the fine should be higher and there needs to be a topic of conversation about establishing some kind of rule that requires a single fucking degree of professionalism in regards to high-level position hires.
The fact that a guy can just step into a role he's never performed before and then basically try twice in a row to get two separate guys without an ounce of coaching experience is flat out disrespectful to guys like say, Patrick Ewing, who have been busting ass on some quality coaching staffs, along with other guys who've put in countless hours looking for an opportunity.
I mean it's some classic good ol' boys club shit.

Patrick Ewing can't coach for shit from everything I've read. He also has a ridiculous speech impediment all of a sudden, he stutters every other damned word for some reason. You can't be a coach and get barely 5 words out during a 20-second timeout.

i'm all for hiring guys with experience first. But i'm not sure re-hiring one of the treadmill coaches that goes around the league is a great idea, and not all assistants are meant to be heads.

Uh, how many times has Kobe come out and said Fish is the vocal leader of the team and his favorite teammate ever?
Derek Fisher seems like one of those natural born leaders. Everyone who plays with him raves about him and all the coaches who hire him do too.
I have no idea how good of a coach he'll be, but do you really need to worry about someone's knowledge of the x's and o's when they're being mentored by Phil Jackson on a day to day basis?
When thinking about who NY should hire, it's obvious that a lot of iconic coaches are either retired or too old fashioned to succeed in the NBA sabermetrics era. Picking coaches is basically a coin toss. As long as Phil gets someone people will respect, and who can keep their team engaged, he can handle mentoring him on the nuances. He's going to have 2-3 months + training camp to get them up to speed on how to coach before they even play a single minute of NBA basketball.
This is what happens when you get someone no one respects. 1 Week into his coaching stint and even the dude behind Kobe is already looking at him like "what the shit is this"

Wipe the kobe semen out of your eyes, you don't hire your coach cause Kobe said he's a good leader.
There's a lot more to coaching. Particularly in the shitfest that is going to be the Knicks the next few years.
