The Nets traded a bunch of picks for a guy at the end of his career (Pierce) and a guy who should be retired (Garnett).
The article is pretty spot on. The Nets traded short term excitement (read: ticket sales, merchandise sales) for long term ruin (bad contracts and no draft picks). Realistically they were never going to be good enough to win a championship, so it makes sense that the management made moves to make the Brooklyn Nets brand more marketable.

The Knicks have already broken Phil Jackson
In the embarrassing aftermath of the Steve Kerr fiasco, Phil Jackson was described by one league executive on Friday as “looking like a beaten man already.”
Jackson has spent the past two days in Chicago at the NBA draft combine trying to regroup after Kerr, his one and only choice to coach the Knicks, decided to take the same position with the Golden State Warriors. Kerr wanted to stay closer to his San Diego home but was also concerned about working for Garden chairman James Dolan, who undermined the potential hiring by originally offering Kerr a three-year deal. Kerr eventually received a five-year, $25 million deal from Golden State.
Although it had been known for months that Kerr was Jackson's primary target, Knicks ownership did not appear to support the hiring. This comes one month after the Daily News reported that Jackson and Dolan had already clashed over staff moves. ESPN later reported that Jackson wanted to revamp the medical staff but was rebuffed by Dolan, who promised Jackson full autonomy when the Knicks signed him to a five-year, $60 million contact in March to become the team’s president of basketball operations.
Meanwhile, Jackson intended to make Kerr his first major hire and the deal blew up in his face.
“When I saw Phil today he looked like a guy who had lost $60 million,” said one league executive who was in Chicago. “Last summer he looked refreshed when I saw him. Now he really looks beaten down. He didn’t look good.”
If the Bulls can't manage to get Love or Melo this season, then they're the worst front office in the league.
If the Bulls can't manage to get Love or Melo this season, then they're the worst front office in the league.
What package could Chicago put together for KLove?
Stat or Bargnani but not both.
The more likely scenario is Bargs + Tyson. Jackson is looking to trade Chandler this season too.
I'm cool with that trade, tbh.
Love is open to going to NY? What a fool. He's also open in going to LA.
$$$$ status confirmed as his first and foremost here.
Btw, I would trade klay / Barnes / Lee for love right now.Of course you would. It's a shitty offer.
i lol'd.
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/lawrence-dolan-gilbert-meddling-hazard-teams-health-article-1.1796220Kevin Love’s people reiterated to the Timberwolves this past week that they had better trade him or else he’ll leave via free agency when his contract is up after next season. With Love looking to exit, there’s your No. 1 reason the T-wolves have not been able to find a head coach to take over for Rick Adelman. Love wants to play for the Lakers but he’s also open to coming to the Knicks.
sorry rodeo
There is a shining light in all of this
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sources--sam-mitchell-emerges-as-minnesota-candidate-with-kevin-love-s-future-undecided-074004019-nba.htmlAs the Minnesota Timberwolves consider the future of All-Star forward Kevin Love, Sam Mitchell has emerged as a serious candidate for the franchise's head coaching job, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
AlsoThe Boston Celtics, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns are among many teams determined to make hard runs at trades for Love, league sources said. Boston and Los Angeles plan to make high-lottery picks in the 2014 NBA Draft available in offers for Love, sources said.
What the fuck can Boston even offer? Rondo to pair with Rubio?
The Suns would be an interesting one.
I think Love is good, but I've been hesitant to say go all in on him for a while. I have severe reservations about his defense, despite his offensive out put. And in the west, your big has to be able to play at least solid defense. Whilst i don't mind him playing next to plumlee ... who would cover for Loves athletic deficiencies... i dunno.
Suns have a bunch of picks this year, and a stashed lakers pick, and their own for the foreseeable future. They've got plenty of time to draft a star.
On the flip side, the suns have 3 first round picks this year. 2 or 3 next year. and their own second rounders. They can't play that many rookies when developing young guys already. So some of those picks have to be dealt, realistically. The question becomes what from the roster has to go with it. I like the Morris twins off the bench. But Channing can go. Green can go. And in the trade for a superstar it probably means one of dragic / bledsoe go? Which i'm actually really against. I'd rather keep the pair.
The suns will also have cap room in the 15 off season. With Dragic and Bledsoe the only ones not on rookie deals being on contract. Of course they'll need to decide what to do with the Morris twins, and it will depend partially on whether Dragic opts out.
what about Love in Houston for Asik and Lin? I feel like Love would be amazing with Dwight and his offensive tendencies are completely in line with how the Rockets want to play ball.

Minnys problems are front courth athleticism (unless dieng is real) and the wings, SF/SG they get almost no production from at all. And obviously Rubio's stalled development.
Lin / Asik solve none of that. And Minny already have 2 C's. They don't really need a third.

Those pieces suck and Min already has Rubio/Pek.
They'd give away a really good PF for two bench players who get paid 30 mil next season.

Wow, what a haul. Yeah, as a Wolves fan I'm taking this deal.
Atl gets Pek, Houston's 2014 2nd
Minn gets Asik, Milsap, Parsons, 2 Houston firsts

I guess you could have Asik, aren't they trying to finally move Horford to PF.
They have plenty of assets. Taj+Nikola+multiple draft picks in the 1st round of this year's draft, etc.If the Bulls can't manage to get Love or Melo this season, then they're the worst front office in the league.

Love isn't a leader and never has been. That's just not his personality. He's still a wonderful player.
Also, Ricky isn't going anywhere for five plus years, so, yeah, he does need to own this.

Kevin already said he leaving...
New York Knicks president Phil Jackson continues to send out signals that he's in no rush to hire a coach until he can seriously discuss the position with Oklahoma City's Derek Fisher, according to sources close to the process.
You know, I was just joking about Fisher before. Who would have thought that this is real?
Everyone getting on the Love empty stats shitty defender bandwagon I see
I'm not convinced Love is as good as Love thinks he is.If thats what you mean.
It's more how good everyone thinks he is. He's got as many playoff wins as Kyrie
Yeah. for a guy who bitches as much as he does, he certainly has his flaws.
He's had a run of very average coaching (adelman atleast has an excuse), and the wolves have just been unlucky with some of the injuries on the team. And it's easy to see how he'd be frustrated.
But he has his own flaws too, and you wonder slightly if he's damaged goods, ego/emo style.
I'm certainly not going to be disappointed if he winds up on the suns. Thats for sure.
you guys cant be serious right
I mean that FO has not at any point put a product on the court that was capable of making the playoffs.
And all you need is for your PF to not be a complete sieve and Loves defense isn't that. David West is an average to maybe slightly above average defensively--same thing with Boozer and Taj, and those two defenses are tops in the league.
And the fact that Rubio has the gall to say anything at all is just...christ.

Gibson is elite defensively, Boozer is terrible. David Lee is a total sieve and the Warriors are one of the best defenses in the NBA. The Wolves were a great team with Love on the court and a terrible team with him on the bench. He's really good.

Not at the expense of an all-star performer.
We're looking for a RoLo type of rotation big to spell Al or bang with the bruiser type centers. Nogueira is still a long ways away.

Yeah that's the most mind boggling part of it. Rubio has yet to show he can be a top tier PG, and I very much doubt he'll ever be.
Out of all of the godawful mistakes that Kahn made, not selecting Curry in favor of Flynn and Rubio must be the worst. Fuck, even Derozan would've been a homerrun in comparison.

Sam Mitchell

George Karl interested in the Wiz or Cavs job. The Wizards job is one that many coaches could likely be coveting as it’s a prime situation to walk into, although it’s not currently a vacant position. While Randy Wittman’s contract is up this summer, the belief is that he did enough to keep his jobs nd that the team is responding to him in a way that warrants an extension.

Love would just leave the Celtics if he comes here

It's not real, it's the same old thing of either:
A) The Knicks leaking rumours to the papers to make them seem relevant/like they're trying
B) Agents/GMs leaking Knicks rumours to jack up the price for something because people are willing to believe they'll pay anything.
But you guys I thought Hunter said Rubio wanted to be a Knick. Isn't that the guy nyk should be after
I don't know how I'm gonna deal if Fisher becomes our coach. He's one of my least favorite athletes of all time.
Pretty much, but if it helps the tank I'm all for it. Last thing we need is the Knicks thinking they're a decent team again. They're collective backwash and it's just better to start over.
Go home guys, it's over.
