By Red Blaster Go To Postreading the nintendo direct hype thread on era…wtf are some of these clowns on–they're asking for fallout 4, dishonored 2 and motherfukken pubg on switch. lmao
I just took a peek. People are insane.

By rvy Go To Postwell, who's fault is that? It's easy to get hustled by Fallout 4, though. I kept waiting for it to get better and it just never happened. I kept thinking, oh, eventually I'll be able to end these quests in ways that don't involve murder and ... no, that's every quest.
I guess it's easier to play if you just think of it as a mediocre shooter with RPG elements and put Fallout 3 and New Vegas out of your mind.
The thing is Fallout 4 has some FO3 and NV moments in it that make you think it will start to reach that level.. but it never does..

It surpassed 3 in most ways for me, doesn’t touch NV though.
Within the first, oh, 10 minutes? I realised that it wouldn’t be a good Fallout. You can’t start a game about civilisation after a nuclear war before the war happens then bung the protagonist in a freezer for 200 years. Shit just don’t work. I held my expectations for it low from then onwards, enjoyed the gameplay for what it was and was occasionally surprised by a decent side quest here and there.
Beat it multiple times, even got the platinum trophy on PS4.
The story was absolutely trash, hated the voice protagonist, but the gameplay is the best Bethesda has done with any of their open world games thus far, and it still scratched that same exploration itch all their other games have done for me.
Edit: Rainbow6 on twitch casting NA qualifiers for the Six Invitational right now if anybody’s interested.
By Hitch Go To PostIf you put more than two hours into a game you dislike, you're a mugNot exactly true... a game can turn to shit after a few hours or become really good after a meh start... if you really dislike a game a put mad hours into it I agree but just because you played a game for some hours to realize you didn't like it is a different beast.
You can also like how a game plays but be pretty pissed off at the direction the devs/executives looking to make bullshit money took. Or a portion of a game specifically. There's all kinds of disappointment really.
took me about 3 tries to get into dark souls, but when I did something just clicked and I loved it.
Games are mysterious beasts.
Games are mysterious beasts.
I mean, I put a ton of time into Halo 4 and I think that's a bad game. I kept playing because 343 promised they were going to put the fire out and make it more like Halo. After the final patch like a year later, I finally put it down because it still wasn't to my liking.
I'm incredibly attached to the series and still am. Emotionally, I wanted to keep playing because I really wanted them to make it good. With all the matches I put in over each iteration, at least I can tell you why it's not.

It can also take a lot of hours for the flaws to become apparent in some games. Like I fucking love R6 Siege but after nearly a thousand hours of play over the past two years, I can critique the fuck out it for all the bullshit that is or was apart of the game. Not that I dislike or don’t enjoy playing it, but there’s definitely things in the game I dislike.
If anything I get more pissed off at games that I like and then the devs shit all over the whole point of why they were a decent go to in the first place.
What I'm saying is that we're all mugs and should probably blame ourselves instead of the games at a point
On the other hand, if a game seems bad to you and you don’t like, but keep playing for hours and then decide it’s good because something happens 20 hours in or whatever. That qualifies you for being a mug.

No skin off my teeth that the man making all that money spends less time working and more time vacationing than Trump.
The way Jeff talks about Star Citizen in the Bombcast, I get the feeling he's heard something about the way the money is being used that'd be libelous to share
He doesn't even pretend to have anything but contempt and cynicism for it. Normally a discussion about a crowdfunded game would end with a discussion about the available material and a 'we'll see how it turns out'
With Star Citizen though he's stopping inches short of calling it a con.

Haven't listened to the Bombast in a while, but if it's anything like the last couple of SC discussions, I'll pass. They had absolutely no idea what they were talking about, including Jeff. Like, not even the very basics. Discussing money numbers and news headlines, as per usual, with no real insight. "Yeah, yeah ... I don't know man, yeah." Stick to Mario Maker and Destiny 2, thx.

about 90 hours into BoTW I can say it's really damn good. Probably GOTY 2017.
Good:
The world, Link's mobility in the world and exploring the world is some of the best shit I've ever played. period. I've spoken on it before so I won't go on too long but this is easily one of, if not the most well designed open world ever.
I really can't stress enough how great it feels to explore in this game. The best ever to do it by FAR.
- The shrines are cool, a bit samey but cool. The Dungeoun puzzles too. They were never difficult but they kept my interest and didn't outstay their welcome too much.
not so good:
The combat sucks, straight up. I know there are tons of youtube videos of people doing wacky shit with the combat but none of that is interesting or effective. Since the world levels up with you and the monsters just keep getting more and more health, it's almost always better to just directly deal with them than doing some shit with the magnet or the time stopping.
- Combat is incredibly easy and broken. Why in the hell would Nintendo allow me to pause and heal? That effectively eliminates any type of difficulty when you can carry an unlimited amount of healing items from raw ingredients to cooked food. Never not once, did I feel threatened by any type of encounter in this game. I'm hesistant to call the combat terrible but it might be. I think Dragon's Dogma also made this ridiculous mistake.
-Why not have link play an eating animation in game after selecting the food? Why not limit the amount of healing that could be done during an encounter, why not limit the amount of healing items link could carry? sigh.
-Upgrading armor also breaks the combat. Upgrade your armor enough and there is no attack in the game that can deal more than a few hearts of damage. I'm really not sure why Nintendo didn't go with percentage scaling with the weapons and armor versus this stupid hearts subtraction shit.
-If you have to self impose rules like "don't heal x amount of times", your combat is trash.
-For a open world so varied and HUGE, it's inexcusable how lacking the enemy variety is, it brings the experience of exploring this massive wonderful world knowing that you'll be fighting mokoblins, bokoblins, moblins everywhere. I don't even know if there are more than 10 or so enemy types in this game and half of them don't even count because you kill them in one hit.The first time I fought a Muldunga(Sand monster) was ike 70 hours in smh. I feel like there's more enemy variety in one Dark Souls stage. What the fuck Nintendo?
-Speaking of enemy types, why are the Lynels literally the only exciting enemy in the game? Lynels are better than any boss or enemy in this game and the most interesting move set.
-There are over 100 weapons in this game yet there are only 3 sets of animations/movesets that Link will use. Sword/Club, Big Sword/Club and Spear. So there really isn't any fucking weapon variety, the master swords plays the same as a tree branch besides the lazer thing.
-If literally everything else scales with you, WHY DON'T THE DUNGEONS? I had done enough exploring and got enough decent gear that by the time I did my first Divine Beat(The Zora one) I literally beat it in like 20 seconds. I don't even think it even got to play an attack animation. The same thing more or less happened with the other three Divine Beasts. Random enemy groups in the world were far more challenging. I don't even know how this shit got overlooked lmao
-you've seen one enemy camp, you've seen them all.
-The flurry rush is broken too. In a good combat system, a dodge/bullet time mechanic works so: You dodge an attack that if not dodged would hit you at the right time, activating slomo/your reward. In BOTW: you dodge an attack that was never going to hit you, you get slomo. I've probably dodged a club swing that was 10 feet away and activated slomo 100 times. There have been times when I've dodged a Lynel sword swing by a hair and slomo doesn't get activated dozens of times. I've "dodged" attacked where a weapon literally slices through link but I get rewarded with slomo dozens of times.
-inconsistent staggers, poorly telegraphed attacks from enemies, the GARBAGE camera during combat, WHY ISN'T THERE A DEDICATED DODGE BUTTON??!?, Not being able to switch targets with the right stick makes all combats with groups of enemies miserable. The lock on system is so disappointingly terrible it hurts. So much of the combat in this game screams amateur hour. So much stuff that's so easy to fix it's crazy. Sloppy all around.
- Link is so versatile and acrobatic outside of combat it feels like a completely different studio handled the combat. Why in the fuck do I need to be locked on to dodge?
-A lot of these issues come from the combat being gear based and not skill based. I'm not a huge hater of the disposable weapons but I can't tell you how many times I've had to quit a fight not because I was getting killed but because I ran out of weapons and that's really discouraging. The Master Sword was so disappointing, after being hyped up all game long by all these NPCs, it's a mid tier weapon that still technically breaks. fucking sigh.
So much potential wasted because there's a few things about the combat that I really like, hits are super satisfying, the little options you do have with weapons feel good. Sprinting towards an enemy for a lunging spear attack feels GREAT, but there's so much crap bogging it down.
I could say more but I need to go to bed.
BOTW is two games one game about exploring, the other game is when you're not exploring. The exploring game is one of the best games I've ever played and makes me wish I was a kid again so I could waste a whole summer playing it every day. The other game feels so amateurish it hurts because of the potential wasted.
I know the scrambled wall of text of me shitting on the stuff I didn't like is a lot larger than the one of me praising the game but don't get me wrong. The stuff I did love, I really loved.
Overall: 8/10.
Other stuff: love the art and the visuals, one of the best looking games ever etc. Music was great and I like the sparseness of it. Love all the outfits I can dress link up in, some of the NPCs are really quirky and charming. A ton of the sidequests are boring fetch quests bullshit, some of them are cool. Building up Tarrey Town was dope.
If Nintendo is able to pour enough effort into the combat, dungeons, boss fights, enemy variety and shrines as they did in the open world into BOTW2, then that'll be one of the best games ever.

This is what makes BOTW great. Could care less about the go straight to the boss stuff.
When I say Nintendo NAILED exploration, they really, really fucking did. Nothing touches it imo.
Everything is designed around the world. Even the little things like the way the korok puzzles are integrated into the world, the way it rewards exploration and climbing is crazy.
You actually feel like youre discovering shit rather than going to a question mark on the map. Fuck The Witcher 3 btw, trash game.
This sounds super nintendo but I'm 80 hours in and the world and exploring it is simply, magical
I don't really feel like BOTW is some formula you can copy, everything feels so hand crafted its crazy.

Combat does get trivial eventually, though I still found the higher level Lynels challenging. But it sounds like you should be playing with hard mode on if it's affecting your enjoyment.
I believe the deal with the slow-mo is that you actually have to time it so you're at the height of the backflip when the enemy strikes. It's not a "they just missed you" thing for some reason.
It's my GoTY as well...I think Nier would have had it in just about any other year, but BotW is just something special. It's going to be one of those things that people will be using as a measuring stick for years.
