As usual, I didn't really play that many games released during the year, but I'd probably give it to Assassin's Creed Odyssey. God of War just isn't for me, but it's obviously quality. Iconoclasts and Smash are up there too.
In terms of mobile games, shit rates and wyrmprints aside, Dragalia Lost has crazy production value and a responsive development team that actually listens to the community. I wish some of the AAA development teams took some damn notes.

i gave god of war another shot because i had some free time over the holidays and it's fine. there's a lot i don't like about it but the presentation is really good. i'd give it a 7/10 probably, wish it was 3-5 hours shorter.
as for my gotys i think it's obviously smash since it's the game i had the best time this year. playing with friends and family and having a blast is hard to compete with. other than it's probably celeste and MonHun World. Pretty bad year overall, 2019 should be a lot better.

rdr2 is like the worst parts of gow stretched over 50 hours. Chapter 5 was on of the worst things i've played this gen.
it was actually enjoyable to just chill and ride around rdr though, even if at some point it became too much.
in gow i was bored of walking around with that little shit head after 1 hour. after 5 i wanted to kill myself. after 8 i stopped.

There is plenty of bad things about RDR2 as well. But at least it has just as many positives.

Is rdr2's story even good? It has great performances and a couple cool characters. I think I got tired of Dutch's "one more job" schtick much quicker than the setbacks in gow's story. And chapter 5....blegh
I enjoyed my time with it but the more I think about it, the best thing about RDR2 is it's production values. Controls, gameplay, mission desugn? 🗑️🚮
