By livefromkyoto Go To PostI get the impression Dan was driving everybody on the West team crazy so they just said "go hang out with goofball Vinny and try to make Alex seem less suicidal. "Dan - and Ryan's passing really - are literally why I stopped listening to their podcast or even visiting their site. They don't produce anything outside of e3 that I find entertaining. It's not as if they break news or even write opinion pieces anymore. It's all video content and it's just not good.
Dan actually wants to make content. Jeff just wants to stream games. Brad doesnt want to do anything but google himself.
I wish they did more reviews. Like, Jeff is still really good at writing those when he wants to really dig down into a game.
I still like the site, though, and have been a subscriber for a couple years now. Don't regret it at all.

Ryan's death really sucked and he was impossible to replace, but I thought they recovered okay from that. I really liked that Jeff/Brad/Patrick/Austin/Vinny/Drew era, they had some great discussions. I think there's a reason most all of those guys have gone on to bigger things. Dan was fun at first because of his crazy drinking adventure stories and bizarre wrestling fixation that culminated in him becoming an actual minor league heel manager.
Things got weird when they seemed to turn Dan into an actual heel on the show. I was never sure if it was just a work or if there was genuine acrimony between them, but soon enough he'd been sent away. One of the last bombcasts I listened to was a weird one right when Dan was leaving for the East where it was just Brad and some guy from another site because nobody else could show up. The guy flat out asked him (paraphrasing) "is Dan real or is that just a character?" And Brad was like "I'd rather not say." I was kind of surprised that exchange wasn't edited out.
The CBS takeover probably changed things for them, between dividing up the talent between two offices and Austin/Drew/Danny all going on to their own gigs it seemed to me they just didn't seem to have enough talent to keep the West stocked. Jeff & Brad had been the embittered cranky straight men for so long it was tough for them to carry the enthusiasm on their own. Beastcast used to be the inferior show, but now those guys seem better by comparison.
I think the biggest thing for the West office right now is all those guys play the same sorts of games. They're all huge fighting game guys, they all play Souls games, a couple of them are way into Dota. Unprofessional Friday is probably just going to them playing Dragon Ball Z today and I couldn't care less about that. Patrick isn't walking through that door with his catalog of survival horror, Drew isn't there to keep them honest with Halo and weird Eastern European RPGs, etc.

To be fair, Drew talking about Arma or Swedish Volvo repair simulators or super in-depth hang glider wind resistance calculators on Steam or racing games where you only play as the guy who chooses what type of rubber the tires will have or whatever was always tune-out time for me. He had the most boring taste in games of any human being ever.
He's a likeable guy but it's like he was raised in a sensory deprivation tank by Foxhound or something.
One of the last Bombcasts I remember listening to is one where Dan talks about not knowing what egg whites were and explaining how he cooked egg shells and attempted to eat them because "well, they're white". I immediately didn't like him.
I also recall seeing one of their live streams where they were playing something new, and Dan was sitting on the couch, Jeff in a chair, and after every comment, or joke, or any time he said anything, Dan would look over at Jeff for approval while awkwardly squirming in his seat. He comes off like a twitchy middle school spelling bee freak with matching facial hair in a thirty year old's body. Just not interested in his opinion on anything.

Dan was raised in small town Kansas by a Nintendo 64. Don't look down too hard on the disadvantaged.
I just went into an electronic store to check something out, ended up leaving with a SNES Classic...
Fighting games are in a better place than they've been since forever, but somehow there's nothing out there that really nails it for me. What I want is something like the pace and personality of old school KoF and not garbo like current KoF.
Tekken 7 is awesome but I just don't see myself spending all my time learning that phone book of moves. I had to nope out of 6 in the end.
Injustice 2 is fun but after you've seen all the cool stuff the core fighting is weird. Like stiff people slapping around fish or something.
Killer Instinct is meh.
Mortal Kombat got way too gross.
Smash is fun to play with people who don't take it seriously, but I don't think I could ever feel motivated enough to get good at it.
Dragon Ball looks amazing but I kind of don't care about the franchise, the auto combo thing is sort of a putoff, and air juggles have never been my thing in the first place. I'm sure there's fun to be had though, maybe one day when it's cheap.
Blazblue looks kind of cool and I've heard the single player stuff is great. But it seems to be over, except for the rehash thing they're doing with Persona and Rwby characters. I watched 3 minutes of Rwby on YouTube and I couldn't take any more.
I couldn't ever get into Guilty Gear. I don't know if it's the characters or what.
Virtua Fighter is dead and buried.
Marvel might as well be.
Chaos Code looks like the closest thing to how old school KoF played, but that's dead too, if it was ever a big enough thing to be alive.
So that pretty much leaves SFV, which looks a lot better than it did but...I dunno. Maybe it's the ugly art or lack of faves or any interesting new systems (at least as near as I can tell), but it hasn't grabbed me.
Maybe I'm just too picky.

u just gotta believe
Even if it does, tbh the difficulty curve to actually being good in that game is just too much. I've owned all of them since 3tb on the Dreamcast and I like the series, but things like inputting every throw escape command consecutively in .1 seconds or consistently pulling off 1-frame moves is beyond what my mortal hands are capable of.

I avoid buying games where a gamergate person is at the center of development. I would never touch The Last Night.

If you thought that was bad, wait until you get to chapter 4 b side
Dark Zone PVP is pretty fun. I'm pretty geared and it was a blast running around in a server full of rogues. At a few points the whole server was in one spot. It was hilarious being at an extraction point with no one daring to go rogue since they would immediately be bursted down by 10+ people lol. I called an extraction and was the only person who put anything on the rope. Then someone tried cutting it and he was immediately wrecked.
Also getting pretty comfortable runing the DZ solo since I've managed to extract a few times without issues and I'm starting to learn when and where to run if rogues come my way.

By RobNBanks Go To PostRvy how is UFC? Idk if you even play it but I saw you post about it onceso far it's the only EA UFC that I truly like. It feels as good as FN Champion did back in 2011. I guess the best way to describe UFC 3 in comparison to the other 2 would be the jump from FNR 3 to FNR4. Because FNR3 was OK, but there was an invisible wall that wouldn't let you get close to your opponent, then 4 came along and the new physics changed everything. Champion improved on that more even. UFC 3 has a new animation system that allows punches and kicks to come from any angle, whether moving forward or backward or to the sides, so it changes everything.
Plus I really enjoy the fact that the fighters now are mostly all unique, some even have their own signature animations.
They still have some ways to go with the ground game, still fairly robotic at times, but stand up is fucking amazing.
By livefromkyoto Go To PostRez Infinite, man. Damn.yeah!
Area X pretty much justifies the PS4's existence by itself.
Crazy that Mario Odyssey takes so much inspiration from Kingdom Hearts. I mean, the ship and travelling to different worlds/Kingdoms....it's almost blatant.
I hope the worlds in KH3 are just as big if not bigger than in Odyssey.
Also, Mario looks like shit undocked.

Played a bit of Battalion 1944 and I don’t get the fuss. I know it’s early access and all that, but it’s just a very shallow and unpolished attempt at replicating early Call of Duty games.
Completely lacks the stop and pop feel that CoD2 had.
