The story is pretty standalone, Ocelot looks nothing like Ocelot, all the voice actors are different, key components of the franchise have been binned, the structure of the game is nothing like it's predecessors, and its boring as fuck where the other ones were always interesting even when they weren't great.

they've made a lot of changes to the planets too in the NEXT update. I've found planets that are primarily oceans. You can fly over nothing but water for literally 20+ minutes. My home base is on a paradise planet with water and no hazards. I found an island chain in the middle of the ocean from space, and fly down to it, and started my main base there. They also nailed the sense of scale of space. Try flying to another planet without boost or acceleration if you bad, could take you hours.

By Smokey Go To PostyepYeah flying a ship in space is amazing. Of course I had no idea what the controls were so I nearly flew into asteroids after using the hyper acceleration into the 2nd planet lol. Then nearly fumbled landing. Sense of scale is insane though and I love exploring each planet.

Shadow of War has the same issues as the original-- the nemesis system becoming boring, and inpersonal almost instantly. Running around and hacking down these guys with their big talk intros awkwardly while surrounded by a dozen orcs.
There are two issues:
1. There are too many of these guys for it to feel meaningful. After you kill five you're completely done bothering with looking at strengths/weaknesses. You stop gaining intel because fuck it.
2. Map design almost feels proceduraly generated. A bunch of random shit to shoot (bee hives, fire drums, etc), some towers of variable length, and long grass to hide in. Few encounters feel specifically designed for.
Shocking that they thought they could build this into a GaaS experience. It's going back to gamefly.

Their recent output has been a series of pretty good license games like Toy Story 3, Cars, Disney Infinity, so there's reasons to be optimistic.
