By Kibner Go To PostI really enjoy it and need to get back to finishing the Stormblood expansion main story.
It sounded like you never played an mmo in the style of Everquest/World of Warcraft before (there are other styles, I swear!) and this game is the hand holdiest of them all at the beginning, so it's a good test for if you would ever like such a thing.
Never played a single MM0. Last time I even thought about it was back when Star Wars Galaxies came out, but my mum wouldn't pay the sub lol.
By livefromkyoto Go To PostOkay, but Call of Duty & GTA are also huge and nobody flips out when their dlc doesn’t carry over.
I can see the account nuking angle of it. I mean, I wouldn’t care because I’ve been conditioned by every other game ever made that cross-platform is not an expectation, let alone an inalienable right that would have me throw out a system. But I see how they look like the villains here.
Because...it was never a thing either GTA and CoD. It is with Fortnite.

Sadly, they killed it when they did the Combat Update in order to make the game more like WoW because 750k concurrent subscribers wasn't enough. It went down to like 225k within a couple months after the big update and never recovered.
e: i'm still super salty about this because it was a pretty unique game!

Wish I had played it.
Was really hyped for it while playing SW: Galactic Battlegrounds online and eventually everyone migrated to galaxies and I was left with nothing lol.
I have so much garbage in my steam library I’m thinking of making a new account. I’m disgusted that I actually bought some of this shit

They are locking a third party account for whatever reason. Similar situation would be Sony locking your Netflix or Hulu account to the PS4.
As far as crossplay concerns, it like this every gen. Last gen it was XBox. Just corporate being corporate.
By Shanks D Zoro Go To PostWish I had played it.It was a fun but terribly balanced game. Especially once people figured out how to grind for jedi. In a Stars Wars game, either everyone should be jedi or no one should. LucasArts has so much damn influence on their video game licenses and everything needs to be canon accurate. So, if you include playable jedi in a multiplayer game, they have to shit on everything else or LucasArts will reject what you are trying to do.

The player housing (and town building!) nearly anywhere was neat. As were classes that were dedicated to RP and between combat things (like dancers and musicians). The Jump to Lightspeed expansion added space ship combat and travel, which was extremely fun.
The hybrid class system the game used was fun. It was kind of like what Titan Quest used. There were like over thirty different classes. Each one was constructed the same: a base class box at the bottom, four trunks with four skills/talents boxes each, and a mastery box at the top. The mastery box required you to fill out other boxes first before you could unlock it. A character often had enough skill points to master 2.5 classes, iirc.
Some of the classes had requirements before you could get their base class box. The Commando, for example, needed to fully master the class that introduced you to each type of ranged weapon and then complete the trunk for melee unarmed combat in the melee class (so, four skills, basically) before you could get the base Commando class.
It allowed for some interesting class combination for different purposes. Classless mmo's had died at that point (rip Asheron's Call) so this system was the next best thing for me.

That was mostly why I was excited for the game. I think I remember being excited because it was going to be more than just jedi fighting, but the way you describe it I am sure i would have just ended up as a Sith(if that was allowed) fighting.

That’s a spot on analogy right there.
Like I said, I don’t care for Fortnite but I’ve had my Epic account since Paragon was a thing. I’ve used the account on PC and PS4 and if I wanted to use it on Switch, I can’t despite only playing all of two games of Fortnite on PS4.
It’s completely indefensible, unnecessary and at the end of the day only hurts us as consumers.
By Shanks D Zoro Go To PostThat was mostly why I was excited for the game. I think I remember being excited because it was going to be more than just jedi fighting, but the way you describe it I am sure i would have just ended up as a Sith(if that was allowed) fighting.Yeah, you could be a Sith. There was a whole thing with a Jedi Council and Sith Council and shit where ranks were determined. These councils were in-game mechanics but it was so long ago that I don't remember much about how they worked. I do remember that Force users had their characters deleted when they died. As a result, you would rarely see them and, if you did, you would be killed by them them quickly so that they couldn't be ganged up on.
The Bounty Hunter was a neat class. The game often doled out quests via computer terminals. You could also use these terminals to put a bounty on a particular player's head. The Bounty Hunter was the only class that was able to accept these bounty missions. They also had special skills focused around finding (i.e. figuring out what planet they are on, then what part of the planet, etc.), isolating, and killing a single player. They were the only class that stood a puncher's chance against a force-user due to having a good amount of single-target crowd control, iirc.
By Smokey Go To PostMisread the situation brehsLOL well hey, at least I'm no Don Mattrick.
I don't think it matters what you call the situation anyway, whether you call it vendor lock-in or whether you call it anti-consumerism, or whatever else.
Some negative press coverage isn't going to change the fact that a PS4 is still $100 less than a Xbox, and most consumers can only buy one.
This generation is already over, and a PS5 will probably be launching before the next Xbox and still be $100 less than the current Xbox.

By HottestVapes Go To PostIt’s completely indefensible, unnecessary and at the end of the day only hurts us as consumers.Hurts Sony and devs too but they're too blind to see it since they've done it with other games. People might have bought a ps4 version along with a pc version of say games like say Destiny, to play it with people on both but chose the PC only because they don't want to level characters on both. That's another sale Bungie/Sony lost out on because of their stupid ass decision. Also I'm all for more cross play to keep pvp populations up.

Can't say I care much about the lore or who I control in RE. Just give me some tense gameplay in some locked down area like a mansion, police station or whatever. Then I'm good.
I enjoyed the cheesy ass live action RE1 stuff, but the story in all of the games has just been.... meh, and all the main characters a bit shit?

The story isn't what you play RE for. It's the dumbass lore in all the journals. It's so ridiculous and amazing.

But yeah, now that you mention it, Capcom are the standard bearers for dumb video game stories. I always laugh when people want to disqualify a game entirely for having a bad story, as if that’s ever been a real standard in this medium.

But I know the PS5 will hit within a year of it, so that seems like a waste.
By Laboured Go To PostJust gunna wait for PS5 and play pretty much all of this gen's best PS4 exclusives on it.It’s a bit pretty big assumption that PS5 will have BC out of the gate, unless you mean you’re going to wait on PS5 remasters. Because that whole rerelease thing has been good business for both them and third parties.
By livefromkyoto Go To PostThis is where the outrage gets weird to me. People buy dlc in all kinds of things that they don’t expect to carry over to another system. Doesn't help that the PS4 accidentally had cross play at the beginning. Everyone knows the limitation is absolutely artificial.
R6 is class btw
Seems like you have to play a silly amount to unlock ranked though. The abandoners in casual ruin it a bit.
Used a club ubisoft booster and played like 6 hours, only level 10 though

Sony has a working PS2 emulator for PS4 and won't do wide back compat because they want to sell you those old games instead. Is it actually a safe assumption that their next console plays PS4 games?
PS5 will be BC. Microsoft has set a standard on they going forward, and with the boxes basically being off the shelf PC parts came custom chips, it's pretty much guaranteed.
By Laboured Go To PostDoesn't help that the PS4 accidentally had cross play at the beginning. Everyone knows the limitation is absolutely artificial.Of course it's artificial. Last gen devs had PS3 and 360 playing together online but they weren't allowed to include that in the final product. Have to imagine Epic have some role in this though, surely they had to agree to what Sony is doing.
By rodeoclown Go To PostSony has a working PS2 emulator for PS4 and won't do wide back compat because they want to sell you those old games instead. Is it actually a safe assumption that their next console plays PS4 games? As long as MS are ceding them Europe & Japan for free, I don’t see why they’re going to bend over backwards cutting off revenue streams. No idea if they’ll keep up with PS Now, but even Nintendo seem to have given up on VC and are charging a subscription to play fucking Ice Climbers.
XB1’s free bc seems to be an outlier move from a company in need of winning back consumer good will. They need to keep up momentum so I don’t see them walking it back next gen, though I’ll be curious to see if the architecture is similar enough that they can support all those old games out of the gate.
just because japanese companies are decades behind, doesn't mean that's what consumers expect. it's not just xbox, mobile and and pc also influence consumer expectations, and now that digital is way bigger than it used to be, a lack of BC is unacceptable. If the PS5 doesn't have BC, it won't be because of strategy, it'll be because of technical incompetence.
By Smokey Go To PostPS5 will be BC. Microsoft has set a standard on they going forward, and with the boxes basically being off the shelf PC parts came custom chips, it's pretty much guaranteed. Why are they going to nuke PS Now as their bc solution when it’s always been a future-oriented project? Why are they going to go into meetings with Rockstar & Bethesda and tell them they can’t sell millions of copies of native 4k remasters next gen, because they’re going to undercut that market with native bc upscaling? Because the Xbox that they’re trouncing world wide has it and they don’t want resetera to have a 14 page thread about it?
Like, don’t get me wrong, it would be wonderful if they did, XB1X’s BC is its strongest selling point to me, and it frustrates me how many PS2 & PS3 games I’m cut off from because I traded mine in at the beginning of the gen. I just don’t see it as being worth their time to score social media points on this at the expense of all that revenue.
