By livefromkyoto Go To PostYep. It just kept getting tackier & tackier as the games went on, too. The first one was GOAT character action game (well okay, the camera is utterly unacceptable in this day & age). I didn't even bother with the third one.
MS should totally make one and have it be their fast-paced Nioh. Hard-as-fuck character action games are de rigueur now.
Would you buy a Xbox for it?
By rerixo Go To PostI meant shitting on it for coming back as GoW, which I haven't seen, but maybe I missed itThat's exactly what they did.
you're talking about games that aren't even out yet lol, wait until e3 to see what ms has in pipeline
it seems the main issue with ms is they don't announce games ten years in advance
By Pennywise Go To PostThat's exactly what they did.Yea, uhm, whatever Fable is in the works we won't see it for 3-4 years.

fable will be for the xbox two
most likely
ms may take nintendo's approach where they just shut down 1st party output for a while on wii u for switch's first yr...

By Kibner Go To PostWhy would a game like that even need a AAA budget? I think it would be better off with a tighter and more focused game loop than whatever extra stuff a AAA budget would try to smush in.
Because there's no way it wouldn't be fucking amazing with Itagaki at the helm.
As opposed to MS wasting the same money on some other random new IP because they just flat out suck at it
By Smokey Go To PostWould you buy a Xbox for it?
Maybe at the end of the gen. There's only about 4-5 exclusives on there I'd really be interested in so far and I don't have a 4K TV yet, so it doesn't really make a whole lot of sense.
Once I do tho...Radiant Silvergun in 4K
Kinda wish there was a way to get a hands-on with the elite controller. I do not know a single human being irl who owns an Xbox One. (Actually I think Brinbe might but I barely know him).
By Laboured Go To PostGen will be as good as over by then anyhow.Depends on the scale of the game, but who honestly gives a shit?
We're all gonna be deep into Two Point Hospital.
Wooden will break every record for patients dying and you'll be giving all those doctors no place to relax, seeing them getting exhausted will be your magnum opus, my dear Horse.
By Kuma Go To Postwhat ever happened to that Fable legends
They pulled the plug on it, when the game was basically done. Couldn't even bother releasing it.
By Kuma Go To Postwhat ever happened to that Fable legendsIt was overbudget, kept missing milestones, kept getting delayed. When it finally hit beta and feedback wasn't great, Microsoft just cut their losses.

I remember liking the first Fable a lot back when I played it. I wasn't super involved in following games at the time so I knew little about the hype around it, and I didn't buy it until some reviews had already mentioned the fact that you couldn't do anything.
I just found it to be a fun action RPG. The combat was enjoyably broken in that everything was overpowered, and you'd end up unstoppable no matter what. Particularly liked the multi arrow skill, which was not at all an obvious choice as there were hardly any situations where using arrows really made sense, but the skill was so absurd it overcame that. The final level would have you firing off about 20 arrows or something crazy. All the combat choices gave it a lot of repeatability, which was good given the game was only like 5 hours. hopefully a new one can recapture some of that, but most likely it will be a dour serious game with dialog options and "mature" plotting.

I mean it's not targeted at any of us (unless you have kids). It seems to be cool for kids learning how things work? Looked more intricate than just cardboard. I dunno. No reason for people to be mad lol
Capcom got me. My siblings have been practicing Street Fighter 5 and I can't be the one getting washed at family functions. Got a PS4 and gonna pick Arcade Edition up later.
People are mad that MS announced a new Fable? lol
a new IP for a game as large as Fable or Horizon takes a lot of time and writing... seems like they want to cut back on that and get the game out while the gen has life...
I liked the first 2 Fables so I am glad they aren't letting the franchise die...

If they weren't working on Fable, people would complain about Microsoft sitting on the IP and say they don't make single player games. Does it suck that Lionhead was a perpetually badly managed studio that blew $75M making a bad free to play game and then got shuttered? Sure it does, but Fable shouldn't die with them.
I think that's a false dichotomy. Nobody is saying "don't make a new single player game based on the success of Horizon", most of us are just wondering why it's based on the Fable universe.

and a new IP like this takes time... shit even Horizon felt lifeless at times
It doesn't upset me, I am just questioning why Microsoft refuses to invest in new IPs. And they've had plenty of time lol. This generation will be over in 2 years.

With the way they've dramatically shifted their marketing tactics, it's really impossible to say with certainty, Microsoft won't invest in new IP. They have tried a lot of new things this generation and most of them haven't sold. They poured a lot of money into games like Ryse, Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, etc. They're assuredly still trying and still dumping a lot of money into new ideas.
Fable is one instance because it's a popular series that has been strongly linked to the Xbox through its history and it would be a real shame to let it go away.

Honestly, the stuff they did with menus/modes/costumes from old games looks pretty awesome:

Damn, the difficulty curve in Origins once you leave the initial region is like
So, it's not something I'd ever buy, but someone on era did a thread collecting big media outlet impressions (Time, Wired, The Verge) and they're all super positive on it. I don't get it (especially at that price), but it might be a hit for them.
By reilo Go To PostSomeone defend Nintendo Cardboard. I dare you.

Between getting destroyed in Nier and now talking about a difficulty curve in ACO I'm starting to think LFK is a video game journalist.
and now talking about a difficulty curve in ACO
I did every quest and cleared out every question mark in Siwa. I was level 8 by the end of it. The very next quest they give you is marked 'recommended level 23.' I foolishly thought "hey, this is a Ubi game, I'm sure the first step will just be basic stuff to ease you into the new area." Nope, archers everywhere, get 2-shotted by all of them. I got merked 3x before I could far enough away from the enemies for the aggro to wear off.
So I'm like "okay, obviously not supposed to go after that yet, let's go build up my level. Hey, a hyena lair, let's go!"
>SUPER HYENAS<

"Fuck this, I'm gonna go complain on Slaent."

It's a loan word for laboratory in Japanese.
I guess it sounds close enough to one of those faux latin-derived words that products end up with often enough in English that it focus tested well.
I don't think the price is thaaaat high. A normal game is $60 anyway plus all the cardboard stuff. Depends how good the games are if it's worth it or not. If you have kids you know that kids toys are expensive as fuck.
