Are we sure about that? Because last year you still finished with 34-wins even after acquiring Cousins. I believe the Pelicans were 23-34 at the time? I'm not saying you go 7-24 the rest of the way, but double digit wins is looking grim. I hope I am wrong.
By livefromkyoto Go To PostNot if this is the thing that shows him you're serious and gets him to re-sign. Besides, everyone's saying this is a big man draft. Not worth snuffing the only momentum that franchise has had in years for positions that are the last thing that you need.
Boogie just busted his achillies and NOLA can already compensate him more than anyone else. But I didn't think Boogie was gonna leave before the injury, now I feel like it's a lock.

Shouldn't his bustedness reduce his FA options and make him more likely to stay?

what a job if you can get it
I mean the Pels desperately need to find a working back up big to unload minutes from AD and even Boogie when he returns. AD played 41 minutes last game and Boogie was grinding out something like 40 minutes over his last dozen or so games before the injury.
Still not sure I like Mirotic being the haul you get for your only first rounder. I like his game in this system and next to AD, but IDK.
I guess the upside is, that unlike past trades, Mirotic is highly moveable without having to attach an asset.

That's what I'm saying lol
Boogie and AD aren't going anywhere, why give up a first in a lost year for 2 years of Mirotic?
AD is only 24 and NOLA has continued to make the mistake of trying to compete immediately.

I remember thinking this about Rudy Gay.

You can't really say "well the dude spreads the floor for a big man" either because, our PG who does nothing but jack three's from the set offence rebounds at almost double the rate.
He's soft. I Long for the days of Prime Bynum at this point.

At what point do sports agents start protecting their money makers by negotiating in minutes restrictions into their players' contracts?

so never.
wait, is it?
I could've sworn that was a part of Shaun Livingston's contract when he came back to the league. At least some similar protections...

But they're seen as player incentives.
If players wanted to put in restrictions, it'd be illegal from my understanding.
Not only that, it would be flat out stupid. "Sorry KD, you've got a max of 35mpg, you can't play the final minute of the game". Even the players would rebel against it.
If you're that worried about your health, you don't sign with an org with a shit medical staff.

i'd need to look into restrictions though
By reilo Go To PostYou can put in incentives/bonuses around games and minutes played due to health. And incentives are split into "likely" and "unlikely". And there is a percentage limit for how much they can make up for the total of a contract. I don't remember off-hand, though.
Well, just like how a no-trade clause can be waived by a player (like LeBron might, for example), can't KD say that it's up to him how minutes past his restrictions are used?
Anyway, I just think it's pretty dumb that you got your only star players averaging 40+ mpg and the team isn't even that good for all that effort. That's just gross mismanagement and someone needs to be getting sued for non-contact career-changing injuries.

By DY_nasty Go To Postyou can't do shit about that manI'm pretty sure there's got to be some documented science somewhere about correlation between minutes played and non-contact injuries.
Didn't the NFL catch some real heat because of all the concussions it was found culpable for?
By Smoke Dogg Go To PostI'm pretty sure there's got to be some documented science somewhere about correlation between minutes played and non-contact injuries.Concussions are far, far from non-contact injuries. They're a part of the sport basically.

There's no real correlation either imo. Guys who play longer see more wear and tear for sure, but the player responsibility for conditioning, rehab, etc also comes into play. There's no way to put a non contact injury on the team unless the team is forcing a guy to play with a preexisting injury that both parties are aware of - and that's never a part of a contract for various reasons.
Yeah, you guys are right. I concede to both points you both make. At the end of day, even though you miss out on one more final payday, you did still make $100 million guaranteed. That's gotta be enough money to hang out and find out what Deng is doing with his time these days.
For all my concerns about how much Thibs plays the Wolves starter, it's not really even about injuries, which I think are more of a freak thing. Like, the LaVine injury last year wasn't his fault. My worry is more how super tired the guys are at the end of some of these games, making them lose some games they should get a W out of.
Tonight's game against Toronto is a total schedule loss because of his rotations. They played a ton of minutes last night at Atlanta and even if it's close, they'll be dead about halfway through the fourth in this one.

The is something to be said about fatigue leading to injuries

By Moris Go To PostThe is something to be said about fatigue leading to injuriesOh, it's a real thing. And there is documented evidence of a correlation. Fatigue leads to you cutting corners, or doing something incorrectly, which is how injuries happen.
You'll just never be able to hold a team responsible for it outright in a legal sense. Too many variables at play to ever find definitive negligence that lead to the injury.

Ask your friendly Minnesota fan what they’re more hopeful for: a Teague turnaround, or a Teague trade.A trade because even if he's firing on all cylinders, he's a bad fit.
What the Wolves need from their point guard spot is not Teague. Not at all. They need someone that's low usage, won't take shots from Butler or Towns, is going to keep the offense humming, will make good decisions, and will play some defense. If only they had one or two of those guys on the roster in the last year. Maybe one of them still is.
By s y Go To PostClassic RodeoI mean, it's true. Teague playing well is still a net negative because he's giving everything back on the defensive end. When he's on the court, the drtg is 111.6 That's almost Cavs bad.
