if hitler made cs i would still pay for the game, the skins and the smurf accounts.
By Pennywise Go To PostWeeew.Very nice from Sancho to help launch the counter for that third goal. What a talent he is. Would be shocked if he wasn't getting a look for the England squad in a year or so.
Shit game, but I'll take 3 points. Decent debut by Batshuayi.

What you reckon
Is there an argument that we are not the best club in the premier league pound for pound?
Obviously that counts for nothing, putting the pressure on trophy, etc... but the reality is we have punching about our weight for a very long time
Edit : I am getting excited after how good we looked on Wednesday i’ll admit. I am also drinking

We made Spurs look better than they were by being really really shit.
Still Spurs are a good side - no denying that

Dan Storey said you have the joint highest ceiling in the league with City and I think that’s probably right. Just need more depth to deal with injuries and dips in form/squad competition.
By Bungie Go To Posthttps://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/feb/02/tottenham-mauricio-pochettino-model-club-cannot-succeedIdeal defenders if you want to play a back three with wingbacks. Just have to get and stay healthy.

That Vertonghen run the other night was incredible. United looked completely washed at that point.
By Bungie Go To Posthttps://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/feb/02/tottenham-mauricio-pochettino-model-club-cannot-succeedGood read. I enjoy listening to Jonathan Wilson when he is on Football Weekly. He is right in that Spurs are essentially a model for growth and development but there is a bit of disingenuity to the idea of them being constrained as all of it is very purposeful by their owners to increase their own profits (which, hey, more power to them). Joe Lewis is one of the wealthiest men in the UK and Levy is surely a billionaire himself. Obviously there is a lot of money tied up in developing the new stadium right now, but the decision to underpay their players is entirely on them and is not a new strategy. It is strange when journalists act like only City, Utd and Chelsea have billionaire owners.

Spurs have a good recruitment policy though so even if you miss out on the Champions League and some guys leave, there will be new quality players brought in to replace them. Poch has raised the level of the team's performance, but the team has generally finished in or around the top 5-6 for quite awhile now so I don't think it'll be catastrophic when you inevitably lose him as well. Whether or not simply fighting for top 4 is enough I guess is a question that you, Scum, jes, etc. could probably answer.
Any discussion of Spurs needs to acknowledge Kane alongside their signings and development. They got a (current market) £250m striker for nothing. Some teams will ignore their academy or keep buying in other players but generally most clubs want to bring through academy players, though whether you end up with a star, a squad player, a transfer fee or a joke is a bit of a crap shoot in the end. Spurs are hardly the first team to benefit from such luck, United are where they are because they got a blessed crop just as the money flooded in and rode it to the top.
Still, if you took Kane away then suddenly Spurs management would be a lot more ordinary. Above average, yes, but not drastically more impressive than the rest of the PL.

I understand what you’re saying but I don’t think Kane reaches the level he’s at now without the current manager. The two are linked in a way that it’a difficult to separate in my opinion.
To what Meier said, he’s taken us to 3rd and then 2nd. That was a huge leap from where we were before. I think the chairman could take us to 4th or 5th, but this is a step above.

Kane is lightning in a bottle -- it's obviously impossible to even guess how they'd be these last few years without him. They haven't had a lot of success in buying second strikers, but they've done well at signing goal scorers in other positions. Maybe Son would be their striker if they didn't have Kane. If Firmino can play as one, I don't see why Son couldn't. But yeah, their success is inextricably linked to Kane's. I don't think that means they couldn't have replicated it to some degree though with a different player there. They just haven't even needed to consider it, frankly.
I mentioned it before, but when one player is literally scoring 40% of all your goals, that is really hard to replace. The manager is great, however, Kane's contribution is so immense and integral to the game plan that it's difficult to imagine where or how Spurs would make up for those goals if he were to leave or be long term injured.

Ceiling in terms of the current squad I would agree, but everyone is improving
