By s y Go To PostSo far:off the top of my head, just Get Out lol, but having googled, seems there are a few supposedly good films with black leads this year
1. Blade Runner 2049
2. The Killing of a Sacred Deer
3. Good time.
Any good movies with black leads this year? I haven't watched Get Out but I feel like I've already been spoiled of the entire movie from different clips and memes and social media.

So I didn't see much in the theaters this year, but my standouts were:
Blade Runner 2049
The Shape of Water
Dunkirk
Three absolutely stunning movies for very different genres.

I’ve just watched Mother! and I can’t fathom how anyone enjoyed that. Utter tripe and I say this is as a huge fan of Black Swan (it was my avatar for a long period here and on GAF).
Batshit insane, director with the freedom to do whatever he wants, technical ingenuity in the final act, wears its themes and its ideas on its sleeve, some committed physical performances, good looking movie... lots of positives.
It was definitely entertaining and well made. I’d probably have enjoyed it more if the female lead was someone other than Jennifer Lawrence, whom I think is a bad actress. The Biblical symbolism was delivered with the subtlety of a sledge hammer, though.
I have a lot of 2017 films to catch up on. Saw Get Out the other day and I thought that was pretty good, though I didn’t go crazy for it like some people. Wind River up next.

Still have to watch Star Wars and Blade Runner. Forgive me Allah

I heard Hidden Figures is good.
Finally nailed down my end of the year list, despite not having seen The Phantom Thread.

5. The Killing of A Sacred Deer
6. Bladerunner 2049

Honorable mentions in descending order:
Baby Driver

Loved
The Handmaiden
(Chan-wook Park is just great <3)
Baby Driver
(Allthough I prefer Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, I really enjoyed what Edgar Wright did with Baby Driver. Music is just perfectly included)
The Killing Of A Sacred Deer
(Yorgos Lanthimos is just so damn refreshing in a pool of remakes and superhero flicks)
The Invisibles
(Amazing documentary/movie that fuses the stories and interviews from contemporary witnesses of jewish people that were hiding/blending into Berlin in 1942)
Get Out
(Great concept and wonderful execution)
Enjoyed
Dunkirk
(I get why people might not like it, but it's a different concept by Nolan and I really enjoyed it)
Split
(Great acting and a really good build up, while the ending might not satisfy everyone it was still pretty good)
Logan
(Different and enjoyable compared to the usual X-Men shit movies)
Okay
Star Wars TLJ
(Far better movie compared to the first and some really memorable scenes, but also alot of unecessary stuff and weird decisions. Looking forward to the new movies by Johnson though)
Spiderman Homecoming
(Better than the last Spiderman movies, which is hardly praise. Overall still alot of room for improvement)
Meh
King Arthur
(Guy Ritchie should stick to genres he can actually do and he should fucking stop with doing his shitty trademark director moves within every movie)
IT
(While I always praised the child actor in the original IT, the kids in the new movie are just pretty damn good and you can see how much more professional child actors have gotten. In the end, that and a couple of scenes are worth it. I don't like Pennywise for multiple reasons and I won't blame the actor, but the direction and the cheap jump scares are exactly what IT isn't about. Poor Fukanaga, would have loved to see his interpretation)
Hated
Alien Convenant
(Ridley Scott should enjoy retirement and stop killing the franchise even further)
Kong Skull Island
(Some neat ideas with terrible execution, no own identity and a Kong that's far below the version from Andy Serkis)
Dark Tower
(What happens when you move right into the middle of a story, that's told over 8 books and you just cut out a small part and make a movie out of it? A turd. You got great actors that can't help to elevate anything, simply because there is just nothing you care about. No build up, no explanation, you just switch to some locations and different persons and you just don't give a damn. They could have killed everybody and it wouldn't have mattered.)
Still got to catch up with alot of movies. Blade Runner is the most wanted. They only had in in cinema for a relative short amount of time.
