Your NBA Awards
My ballot is fairly straightforward.
MVP: Durant
DPOY: Noah
6MOTY: Gibson
ROTY: Plumlee (I'm sorry, MCW's numbers are so bad and despite the lower minutes, Plumlee is the only one I can justify)
COTY: Popovic - I have no idea how this team has the #1 overall record with 60+ wins given the injuries/minutes they sustained. Hornacek and Thibs also deserve credit.
MIP: I guess Dragic? This award is hard so why not reward him, I suppose. I refuse to give this award to year 2 or 3 guys unless they were previously awful.
Yours?

Yours?
MVP : Durant(#2. LBJ,#3.Griffin, #4. Harden)
DPOY: Noah
6MOTY : Crawford
ROTY : I guess MCW? rookie class is awful
COTY : Pop; this years Spurs are the first team since the NBA/ABA merger to not have a single player average 30 MPG, they've dealt with injuries all year long and they STILL have to best record in the league. Absolute wizardry.
MIP: Dragic, can't give it to Davis since he was the #1 overall pick and injured last season and most people thought he was gonna be great. Gerald Green deserves some attention as well.

All kidding aside, I wouldn't be mad with either Sancha's or PI's choices. Gibson does play in the Least though...
MVP: Durant
DPOY: Noah
6MOTY: Markieff Morris
ROTY: MCW
COTY: Hornacek
MIP: Goran Dragic
Morris put up better numbers than Taj Gibson. And crawford still doesn't play D.

what he says. #4 is debatable though.

Was pretty easy this year except for 6MOTY, which I really didn't know who put so I gave something to a Suns player.

All defensive
G: Conley
G: T.Allen
F: Tucker
F: A.Davis
C: Noah
Davis's defensive numbers have been pretty bad. Last I checked, New Orleans was better with him on the bench. Haven't seen enough of the team to understand why, and this surprised me, but it's apparently the case.

Not sure where you look up these stats, but I feel like Davis is pretty poor in the pick n roll when he has to go corral the ball handler. And since Pelicans play him at PF quite often, he's forced to come out and chase the Love/Ibaka/Aldridge/Dirks of the world.
That kind of stuff comes with experience.
I dont' disagree with the criticism's of Davis, but i haven't been impressed by anyone defensively this year at power forward.
The list of people up for it are
Ibaka, Z-Bo, Taj, Duncan, West, Davis. Duncan was the only other one i really considered, but given his MPG.

On/Off and B-ref: http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/d/davisan02/on-off/2014/ It had been a while so he's no longer negative. Now it's basically a wash on defense.
There's also ESPN's new stat, Real Plus-Minus in which his defensive plus-minus is 149th in the league, below defensive stalwarts like Pau.
I've only pointed out that his defensive numbers don't look anywhere near good enough to consider for all-defensive teams. TBH, while I agree young guys tend to get defense a bit later, this is mostly true for perimeter players. Bigs are generally quicker and I personally thought Davis would be pretty fucking good on defense this year and his offense would take longer to come along when in reality it's been the opposite (his offense has been amazing, defense not to much). I thought he'd be elite in help D quite quickly.
That's not to say these stats are end-all be all. I've admitted I haven't watched the NOP much (especially after RYNO went down the final time). It's just that I have a hard time believing someone could be top on defense in their position with those numbers.
Ibaka, Z-Bo, Taj, Duncan, West, Davis. Duncan was the only other one i really considered, but given his MPG
Taj was excellent on defense this year. Ibaka has improved in non-help defense. Plus, OKC's defense is has been very good this year. Duncan is Duncan.
Personally, if your team's defense isn't top 10, I can't put you on a all-defensive team even if it's not really your fault because it's hard to figure out if that's the case or not.

Oh I was referring to the shiny new (well not really, but still) points per possession stats on Post ups/Isos/PnRs that some of the writers have access to. I think it would bear out that Davis is pretty average in specific situations.
MVP: Durant
DPotY: Dwight
6MotY: Gibson
RotY: Dieng/Oladipo
CotY: Hornacek/Pop
MIP: Dragic
O shit, I forgot Dieng is kind of killing it. The only thing I would change are maybe the stuff in brackets. But definitely change that DPotY
ESPN's real plus/minus has Jeremy Lin as a better defender than Mike Conley. Pretty sure that disqualifies it from any conversation.
As far as Davis goes. I really only watched him in our games but going off those he is easily one of the best post defenders in the league. He is the only person I have ever seen guard ZBo one on one and completely destroy him every time.

Davis is playing for Monty (who is the worst D coach in the league) so that makes it hard to tell what his level is. The Pelicans are really horrible defensively this year, but he looks awesome. He'll probably just be awesome (in eye-test and stats) all-around in defense in a year or two though.

I agree with you. He probably just needs the right scheme and better players/coaching. I can't imagine him not being elite soon.

I hate this argument. You can do this with ever stat ever. Whether it's RPM, APM, PM, PER, WS, or whatever. There is no holy grail stat and all of them have a flaw or two. It's just a tool to go with everything else.

Agreed. but afaik ESPN hasn't told us what the formulas are behind the raw net rating stats we get from NBA.com/BBall Reference, so it's kinda hard to figure out just how useful the stat really is.
Davis was about the only good defensive player on that Pelicans team. And he plays good D. Their perimeter players were really bad though. Didn't help that they never had a static lineup, but yeah, they were a mess as a team defensively.
And i think you can consider good defensive players even on bad defensive teams. Tyson Chandler when healthy, was actually good this year. Not up to his best, but good.
You could argue ibaka, and it would be a legitimate argument. But he still commits some dumb stuff on D.
PF was just this weird spot this year where, while a lot of the guys were productive, none of them really had stand out years on either offense or defense.
