By HasphatsAnts Go To PostBy then why have him upset at yoda burning down the sacred text? You’d think he’d at least stopped being wishy washyBecause people never make mistakes during a moment of crisis? Yoda was there to validate him and let him know that his instincts were correct. It's hard to come to that conclusion on your own and still feel like you made the right move.

My read on this is that he thought it was the right thing to do but was afraid to do it, which again, is a moment of failure in a life full of them.
And? Why is that a bad thing lol
Who do you know in real life that is 100% consistent in their actions and beliefs, through and through? Especially over 65 years of living?

By reilo Go To PostAnd? Why is that a bad thing lolIt's fine to fail here and again, but the fact that his life's work is defined by failure doesn't sit right with me.

And honestly, I don't need real life in my children's movie about laser swords. If I wanted that I'd go watch Moonlight and Manchester by the Sea.
I dont think yoda burned down the text. You could see them in the millenial falcon later. Rey mustve smuggled them out when she first discovered them.
I'm not in anyway pretending that how i feel about star wars is rational or that other people should feel about it the same way as I do. As far as I can tell, most people really like The Last Jedi. That's great, people should like things that are good.
But to dismiss concerns like mine as internet fanboy rage is doing a disservice to what Star Wars means to a lot of people out there.

lol the only one I approve of is Snoke's back story.
but im of the belief Snoke is alive and JJ Abrams will shed more light on him in episode 9.

Lmao that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen.
TLJ had some great ideas: Rey being a nobody, good. Jedis being dopes, good. Snoke being a useless muppet, excellent. Kylo Ren saying “burn this whole thing down”, perfect, had they actually followed through and thought about how he would do it

Why does Snoke's backstory matter? Like Rian said, if he gave a 30sec monologue about who he is, Rey would just say "who?" And the scene would continue. Only one that would care is Luke and he never met Snoke.
Very onboard with Snoke being a useless ass character. Kylo Ren's the best thing about these new movies and the more focus on him the better.
Snoke being a skeevy nobody with money / authority that found his way into power is the point, though, isn't it? He's almost a foil to Rey in that regard.

👀
There exists a person, their motivations thoroughly in question for the last two years, who finds himself in an extraordinary position of power. We aren't entirely sure how he has the power he does. He wasn't trained by people how to do it as far as we know. From his behaviour and choice of surroundings, we know he was rich. From every action we see him take, we know he has the capability of supreme arrogance. And he was enough of all of those things to think becoming the most dominant figure around was possible.
Now, there is no suggestion that Rian Johnson directly made a carbon copy of President Trump, wispy electric-copper eyebrows, Hefner-esque apparel and all, but Supreme Leader Snoke certainly shares his hubris. Snoke is one in a line of arrogant, preening, nonchalant 'Star Wars' villains wielding their power and doing whatever they like with it to whoever they like.
By s y Go To PostIm no star wars fan but loooooool:Worst post ever
Although the double sided lightsaber makes sense because she uses the staff so it would be similar, the rest of that list is made from a 5 year old though
I still feel like Snoke should’ve been a nobody that Luke teaches because Luke opens up his academy for everyone, not like the Jedi only having kids
Then he corrupts Kylo and Kylo abandons Rey on jakku because she’s so young and he doesn’t want to kill her but doesn’t want her to become powerful.
Finn is being wasted :( such a shame cause he was awesome in force awakens
Finn x Rey > Finn x Rose
Disney didn’t want that
Rey x Poe is stupid af

Okay, yeah, I knew there was some subtext there I wasn't picking up on. Rey's a young no-name full of Dark and Light™ trying to figure out what she wants to do and is for the most part "good" even though she's not being written as a perfectly benevolent character. Snoke is also a force-sensitive nobody, the only difference is that he's just some administrative shitbird sitting around in the space equivalent of an ivory tower. He never really made a point of eradicating the rebels so much as snuffing out Luke and anyone else that could potentially displace him.
He didn't even really scream "dark / sith / pure evil" to me so much as someone whose goals were directly in conflict with both Kylo Ren and Rey, and I actually kind of liked that about him. Palpatine was cartoonishly evil, but Snoke seemed to be aware that he was being a slimeball and was using the dark side as an excuse for it, rather than ever acting like it was something out of his control or a case of being more destiny shit. It's great.
Good in theory, awful in execution pretty much sums up Rian's story. I like that he took risks, but it ended up more flawed than TFA.
By HasphatsAnts Go To PostLuke doesn’t get laid in the OG trilogy either. Nothing refreshing about it imoBet he put it into those caretakers

This movie is good and Mark Hamill is good in it. It's a great sendoff for Luke Skywalker. I don't really know why people are mad. Did they really expect the next set of films after this trilogy to be about Luke, too?
Luke doing flips and force lifting giant war-machines like Walkers and Star-destroyers like that tool in The Force Unleashed would be fucking stupid.
Seriously, nerds, Luke got the best send off any Star Wars character ever got, it was brilliantly done, with him levitating Avatar style. Should have made his eyes glow.

They did "let's make this old character jump around and do flips and fight" thing in the prequels with Yoda and it felt really out of place.
It would really be the antithesis of who Luke is if he took down all the AT-ATs and got into an actual fight with Kylo.

By HasphatsAnts Go To PostNo we just wanted Luke's character arc to not be defined by failure. That's all.everyone in the universe fails tho
luke is a legend that gives hope to the rebellion, a man who singlehandedly stood up to Kylo Ren and his entire army.
guys star wars is a power fantasy i don't want to be reminded i can fail i just want luke to godmod for 3 hours and bang everyone
i mean, i just don't think anyone in the entire series is 'defined' by failure. Not even punctuated by it either.
By reilo Go To PostDid Luke fail in the end though?Yoda tells him to pass his failures onto the next generation because that's the most salient lesson he can impart. I think it's pretty cut and dry what both of them thought of their own life's work.
Why does Luke have to be the obi-wan to rey? Is it so that rey can be the obi wan to some one else in episode 15?
Luke wasn't Obi-Wan to Rey. He didn't want to teach her. His 3 lessons were designed to dissuade her and he never even got to the third lesson.
And Yoda said "our burden is what they grow beyond".

By reilo Go To PostAnd the Yoda scene was there to remind him who he was. How did you miss that…what now? all i know is that yoda showed up to remind luke how dumb he was. great. we've established that.
It was definitely more than that lol
I'll admit I was thrown off a bit in that scene too because I was so used to super serious Yoda not ESB Yoda
