By RobNBanks Go To PostRLM is never on pointWeird that the writer/director of the newest Star Wars loves them. The casino planet plotline definitely drug it down a bit.
By Xpike Go To PostRLM should be treated as a comedic web series first and a movie critique second.Star Wars should be viewed as a Disney Merch machine first and a movie second.
Blasphemy I'm sure, what I'm about to say and well fuck it: but I watched all the Star Wars as an adult and later on. I get the context of it in its time and all that but they're overrated films in terms of story, always have been. That said the prequels in the 00s are still a fucking mess. But in terms of the newest, the acceptance of many things about the Original Trilogy, really are a factor of nostalgia glasses (among other stupid shit) I must say.

He hasn't seen the movie. He just watched like 40 different opinion videos on youtube on the movie and formed his opinion on those videos.

My goodness you star wars stans are something else.
Just rewatched TFA and about to rewatch it. First impression after watch the FA is that it is lot better than that. Also there are like 200 people in line for a 10 showing a week out so the manbabies are losing
Ultimately it's a fine movie with very interesting things to say about pop mythologies
I'm very irate that they had to do it with Star Wars.

I felt like everything up to the return to the fleet was about a 1/10, like something from a parallel universe's made for tv (not even, made for cable) quality star wars spinoff. And the second half, or at least the third act, was quite good. But holy fuck that first chunk of the movie is some of the most trite, bloated shit I've ever seen, even for star wars.
By Fenderputty Go To PostRogue 1 is still my favorite of the new Disney owned movies though
but I have the worst opinions?

By reilo Go To PostCan we talk about how great Domhnall Gleeson is as Hux? What a chameleon that guy is. I don't even recognize him as the same actor in Ex Machina.holy shit i can't believe its him

Having rewatched it I feel the same way. Great movie, best Star Wars since Empire, the Leia scene is prequel quality trash
yeh after having a day to settle, great movie. Some dumb shit in there, but it's not the babby's first sci-fi template like the TFA.
By FlutterPuffs Go To PostBut that's the best part. Star Wars isn't sacred text.It is to me.
It's fine. it's just a movie, but I don't have get over it if I don't want to.
Saw it today. I'm not sure I loved it, but it was certainly a good film. I'm not sure subtle is a word that could ever be used to describe Star Wars but at the very least TLJ didn't hit you on the head every time it conveyed plot sensitive info. Huge step up compared to TFA.
I see the online reaction to the movie has been mixed and a lot of that is down to the way it handled Luke. But I enjoyed the overarching story of the Jedi and Luke maybe not being the heroic, infallible legends of yore. A Luke Skywalker racked by guilt over his failures and doubt over whether he's worthy to teach new Jedi is far more interesting than having him show up and lightsaber his way through rows and rows of goons.

I thought lukes arc was cool. But why did he end himself/disappear? Did him projecting himself use all his life energy anime style or what? I can understand wanting to end Luke's story but him actually dieing and sacrificing himself would have been better than him just choosing to leave(if thats what happened)

he knew by overexerting himself he was gone but he did it to pass the torch to rey and save the resistance and give newfound hope to the galaxy

people wanted him to blow all the at-ats up and slice everyone up which… totally doesn't get the point of luke skywalker

That was very solid, great shots and action.
Interesting character development
Really thought Leia was a gonner there
Luke's final scenes were pretty great.
I hope we aren't seeing a triangle with Rey, Fin and Rose
the best thing the film did was subvert a lot of expectation and preconceived tropes.
I know its been explained to death, but I really understand what these nerds are mad about

They seem to miss that Luke went from shutting the force out to completely letting it in and becoming one with it. Thus completely his entire character arc. One of the complaints is he didn't show a force of strength. Which is stupid because only two other Force users have ever became one with the force. Yoda and Obi-wan. You have to be incredibly strong with the force to do what he did.
By reilo Go To PostIt's whatever, I get it. Gotta be professional and a team player.
WHERES YOUR GOD NOW, NERDS
But if it's anyone it's Mark Hamill who has a right to be pissed. He was the only guy who played his part in keeping the franchise alive during the lean years between Return and Phantom. He did all the convention tours, the EU fanfics, the videogames, all of that. And this is all in spite of the fact that people didn't like Luke that much coming out of the OG trilogy anyway.
Fandom is dumb all the time, and I know how I feel about Mark Hamill and Luke Skywalker is utterly irrational. I just don't care.
luke is the only woke person in the entire series who saw the old Jedi Order as the incompetent fools they were
hell he even named Rey a Jedi just because of her actions, something that if done with Anakin wouldve saved a lot of trouble

And then goes on to talk about lore and calls canto bight 'canto blight' throughout and calls the knights of ren 'knights of the ren'
