Just saw it again.
Confirms what I've secretly been thinking since I saw it last week. It's just as good as Empire. Every single thing that happens in the movie helps the characters to grow. Rian took what was basic abd really strong archetypes in TFA and strengthened every single one.
99.9% of the technical/logistical issues being bandied around are explained in the film. The rest is either plot contrivance - which you find in every movie ever and is easily able to be waved away as 'force shit' - or subjective opinion. It's on you if you think the decisions RJ made were bad, totally your prerogative. To claim it's because of things the film explains though... pay more attention brehs.

It makes sense. The expectation for TFA must've been all over the place, so for it to be a competent movie and even enjoyable (despite some of JJ's mystery box missteps) was a huge success in and of itself. A 93% RT score could mean a 3.75 star average for one movie, and a 4.5 star average for another.
By Kabro Go To Postwhat's more important. On Rotten Tomatoes and there are some people claiming that they created bot accounts to lower the score.
TFA audience score: 88%
TLJ audience score: 55%
Cinemascore, that does polls at exit of theaters, has a score of A.
I absolutely loved it. I wouldn't mind seeing it again, which I couldn't say about The Force Awakens right away.
Anybody saying "it doesn't feel like a Star Wars movie" has a sadly narrow vision of what the franchise is and could be in the future.

Yeah, I'm itching to see it again already. Now that I've processed a lot of the odd beats, I'm ready to just enjoy the spectacle.
By Randolph Freelander Go To PostA new death star. Star Wars Episode Nein.
Never want to even HINT at anything death star related again
By Ciaran Lannister Go To PostBae (Before Anyone Else):
in no particular order
-The Last Jedi
-The Empire Strikes Back
-A New Hope
-Felicity Jones
Marvel:
-Return of the Jedi
-The Force Awakens
-Rogue One
-Darth Maul
bæ (poop in Danish):
The prequels. I get the use of CGI but it was too clean and boring as opposed to gritty
I really didn't mind the casino parts at all, they were a nice change of pace! It introduced a couple of neat characters and kinda explained and expanded on the state of affairs quite a bit, no? also that cool ending!
Kylo went from Jar Jar Binks tier to maybe my absolute favourite, lol. He almost makes TOO much sense at times. You have my red lightsaber, Supreme Leader.
FYI Marvel and Poop are synonymous. So your list is wrong.
Kylo and Rey felt like side characters. 75% of the movie was about the rebels, at least it felt that way.

kylo though, you care more for him than you do Rey.
search your feels,
everyone was rooting for Kylo to make the right decision and kill Snoke.but if Rey turned to the dark side, we'd be like. ok whatever. the first female empress, right?let's move on.

By reilo Go To PostRewatching A New Hope and Hamill's voice has changed so drastically. He's barely recognizable.he was the joker in this movie
I know it's 1977 but Vader's outfit is some Keaton Batman shit bad. He couldn't move his arms above parallel 😂
By reilo Go To PostI know it's 1977 but Vader's outfit is some Keaton Batman shit bad. He couldn't move his arms above parallel 😂He doesn't need to. He can grab stuff on the higher shelves by using the Force.
They used to hand out medals after destroying a Death Star and now literal nobodies can do it so can you.
I will say that despite the obvious lame CG being added in the more than trivial sections, the Blu Ray version is extremely well restored. And even the Han vs Greedo part seems ambiguous enough where you can move on thinking Han shot first.
But yes, pretty conclusively, The Last Jedi is better than A New Hope.

Nice to see Ade Edmunson playing one of the First Order officers. I don't think Americans will know him but he is probably most famous for playing a character called Eddie Hitler on a UK comedy series called Bottom.
Saw it yesterday.
It's on par or a little below empire for me.
Why is the manchildren fanbase so salty about the movie that they gave poor reviews?

ppl need to give a segment of the core base time to rewatch this and let a little time pass, I think a lot of them will come around (as I did)

By jjasper Go To PostI mean it is the same group of people that were upset cause there was a black main character.Right.
Probably also the same people who think Rey being a nobody is bad and it would be better if she was Luke's kid, ya know, a supreme and superior human being from a good bloodline and all that other tiki torch bs
By Dark PhaZe Go To Postppl need to give a segment of the core base time to rewatch this and let a little time pass, I think a lot of them will come around (as I did)eh, there's always going to be people mad at Luke's character and the deliberate attempt to break away from series tradition
By KYM Go To PostSaw it yesterday.Because people enjoy shitty storytelling. Everyone needs to be related to each other. The only good and bad people in the universe come from the Skywalker bloodline.

And Snoke wasn’t Ezra. Thank god Disney isn’t that dumb. There’s like 10 people that watch Star Wars Rebels, what’s the point of having some dumbass twist for a handful of people
A lot of my friends hate it, Im fine with that.
Lets see their response when their kids prefer TLJ than the old trilogy

The series is more about Kylo than it is about Rey anyways.
So apparently having a girl be the lead and having her track down Luke Skywalker, who had gone into a dark place and seclude himself at the original Jedi Temple, were ideas given by George Lucas in the first planning sessions for The Force Awakens.

I'm being serious. I cannot think of any plot holes in this film, or at least none that actively impact on the quality of the movie.

Reaaaaally enjoyed this. As almost everyone has pointed out, it has pacing issues in the middle third, but everything around that is excellent. Posted this on Era, but I legit think this single film contains about 4 of the best ever SW moments:
Luke and Yoda's whole scene before the incredible wide shot of them sitting watching the burning tree
Kylo slicin' Snoke and the ensuing lightsaber scene
The Holdo scene - a full screening of ho-hum stiff upper lit Brits physically gasped at that last night. A rare experience, especially in a showing a whole week after release
Luke v Kylo - the whole scene from Luke's arrival to his "death" was immaculate. The nerd inside me would have loved the green saber to go with the short hair, but I can live with it. Again, that wide shot of the two facing off hngh

Ok I finally caught up to rest of civilization , after being sure I will be too busy to find the time and see it .
My first though :
Way more walrus milking then I expected .
My second :
I dug it . I never though of the series as anything more then a fun pulpy pew pew laser sword spaceship adventures , I never held it in any particular high regard, so it could be my favorite of the bunch , maybe ?

An alt-right group named Down With Disney’s Treatment of Franchises and its Fanboys is taking responsibility for flooding Rotten Tomatoes with negative reviews of the Rian Johnson-directed blockbuster. One of the biggest headlines surrounding the film has been the fan backlash, specifically the movie’s shockingly low Rotten Tomatoes user score. As of this posting, “The Last Jedi” currently has a 54% user score from over 132,000 reviews.
The moderator explained to The Huffington Post that the group is upset with “Star Wars” for “introducing more female characters into the franchise’s universe.” The group is also not happy that Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) has become a “victim of the anti-mansplaining movement” and that characters like Poe and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) are in danger of being “turned gay.” The moderator said men should be “reinstated as rulers of society,” and expressed distaste for the way “The Last Jedi” disrespects the franchise’s history.
“There were supposed to be a trilogy of books and then some after set in the Legends canon. But [Lucasfilm executives] Kathleen Kennedy and Pablo Hidalgo wanted to pursue their own feminist [sic] agenda,” the moderator wrote to The Huffington Post. “I was never going to like ‘The Last Jedi’ anyway because [it] erases everything the Extended Universe ever did.”
As for his issues with the focus on female characters, the moderator said, “Did you not see everything that came out of ‘Ghostbusters’? That is why. I’m sick and tired of men being portrayed as idiots. There was a time we ruled society and I want to see that again. That is why I voted for Donald Trump.”
