Only issue I have with it is with Snoke. Really reminds me of a Marvel villain - built up so high but only lasts one film
I've become acutely aware of how many people literally aren't aware of what this movie was saying and this is a movie for kids.
Was this the shortest timeline gap between movies? It seems like most of the other films were at least months to years apart, this movie seems to take place directly after TFA. Anyone else notice that?

For those upset about Snoke's short run, he was always a red herring. He's not the big bad dude. That's Kylo Ren. This wasn't a Palpatine/Vader relationship. Snoke maybe thought it was, but Kylo knew better.

4-5 is a three gap. 5-6 is a 9 month gap.
The gap between each movie in the PT are years apart. Not sure what they are though.
Anyways, watched it again. It's even better on second viewing.
By n8 dogg Go To PostGonna see it again in a day or two. Can't wait; can't get it out of my head.same, I can't remember the last time I wanted to see a movie twice in theaters.

Also, I know JJ had some missteps with his box of mystery stuff that Rian masterfully resolved in TLJ, but Trevorrow being off Episode IX and Abrams back to put a bow on it with Rian already have written the story has me hyped as theeee fuck.
EDIT:
EDIT:
Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed that J.J. Abrams would be pitching the Star Wars: Episode IX story to him today (December 15, 2017)Well fuck, I thought Rian was writing :(
I don't think Rian has written the story, that was old news.
On Snoke:
“I do think it’s interesting,” Johnson said. “I never want to poo-poo the fans coming up with theories. It’s part of the fun of being a Star Wars fan. If there is a place for it in another story, I hope it gets told.”
Telling it himself in The Last Jedi would have felt like he was shoehorning information on the audience that would have become a distraction. “It would have stopped any of these scenes dead cold if he had stopped and given a 30-second speech about how he’s Darth Plagueis,” Johnson said. “It doesn’t matter to Rey. If he had done that, Rey would have blinked and said, ‘Who?’ And the scene would have gone on.”

Few more spoilery points linked at end of this article
the casino shit was prequel esque and i could've done without it, otherwise i enjoyed it. rian johnson's trilogy will be more interesting than whatever jj does in episode 9.
like with tfa, the revisionist history shit some peeps are spouting about the prequels is absurd

These nerds have invested so much time in the Star Wars universe but they can't even get basic facts right. They're so intent on staring at the tree that they miss the forest all together.
EDIT: It's also why, now, in hindsight it was best for Disney to clarify what is and isn't canon.

Warner Bros./Time Warner Inc.’s Justice League took a tumble on its fifth weekend, earning $4.17 million (-57%). Its $219.3m 31-day total is less than what The Last Jedi earned over its opening weekend (and less than the $228m-adjusted debut of The Avengers).
Speaking of Justice League, I don't know what to think of Chris Terrio being involved in writing IX with Abrams. On one hand, he wrote Argo, on the other... Batman vs Superman and Justice League. How much was he involved? Clean-up crew after Whedon came on board?
Terrio wrote the screenplay for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the follow-up to Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, based on an earlier draft by David S. Goyer, and co-wrote the film's 2017 follow-up, Justice League, for Warner Bros.😟
Abrams and Terrio are going to enable each other's worst flaws. I like Abrams' films a lot but I just know this motherfucker gon try and redeem Kylo
By n8 dogg Go To Post100%, in a film full of great scenes, it was —————Yoda————-
Gonna agree with this - saw it yesterday and that was definitely the standout scene.
Oh and the reason the Yoda scene was so great, is because it was the right type of fan service. Everyone wants their made up theories to come to fruition because of some 20 year old side story they read that isn't even canon anymore because the ego is a powerful thing, but Yoda was the perfect type of character to bring back to the screen for that Luke story arc.

really hope he takes the message that RJ brought and going a whole new direction
and not doing a fan service again.
I loved that Luke actually saw Kylo for how awful he was, but Snoke underestimated it. Snoke thought that he had a new Vader in the making, Kylo wasn't about to play attack dog for anyone. I think he took Rey there hoping she would be his Vader, but ultimately didn't care as long as he came out of it as head of the New Order and bowing to nobody. Even Rey was wrong. She saw that the would not bow to Snoke,
but she misread how dark he was.
Kylo Ren is easily the most evil mainline Jedi we've seen.

Sidenote, but before the movie premiered people were lamenting that there were no lightsaber fights shown in the trailers. I am glad they did not, as it would've spoiled the biggest ones since there were so few this time around. Besides the single shot of Kylo facing off against Luke and pointing his crucifix saber on the salt mine planet, that is.
The 10:45 PM showing was a good call. I'd estimate the theater was only half to two thirds full. Meanwhile, early showings today were practically sold out as of last night. $5.02 for a water, though...
Anyway. Good movie. I'm glad that if it had to be done, Luke died rather than being killed. The Yoda-like exit is better than even a sacrificing Obi-Wan kind of exit, or worse. Of course, now they're in a box with Leia.

Seeing it again you get a whole lot of clues about where things are going. Rian really did great with that shit.
I like how no one in the movie ever says Luke died. He's "gone" in a physical sense but now he's part of the Force. It's really beautiful.

Thought it had gone for a bit long when they were escaping with the ships but damn, Luke punking Kylo and then his death scene took back again for solid contention of better SW film.
Should Adam Driver get an Oscar nomination? I know it seems ridiculous on its surface but...when you really think about Kylo Ren as a character..it would take very very little for him to essentially be Anakin prequels level of cheese and this whole trilogy would be worthless. Him bringing that character to respectable levels is an enormous feat tbh.
Adam Driver was great. Serkis also although that whole story was too similar to the Emperor's in Return of the Jedi for my liking.

Yeah they were at the end of TFA.
I dont get fans pissed off at Luke milking a space cow and drinking the milk.
He was a farm boy. He probably has fucked one or two in good measure.

Saw it last Thursday at the Imax theater and was completely enthralled the entire time. Fantastic experience. I do wish we found our a bit more about snokes past, but I don't mind his death. Also I loved that most of the movie had the heroes failing miserably. All these wild plans blew up in their faces.
My hot take:
Snoke is alive. He was cut in half the same as darth maul, yet he lived. Maybe the same circumstance for snoke and why Rey and kylo were still in contact?

By reilo Go To PostRank the Star Wars moviesEmpire
New Hope
Return of the Jedi
Last Jedi
Force Awakens
Rogue One
Revenge of the Sith
Phantom Menace
Attack of the Clones
Nostalgia is probably propping up Return of the Jedi over Last Jedi. "Duel of the Fates" just pushes the Phantom Menace over Attack of the Clones.
I'll rank mine after I re-watch the originals once the Blu-Ray arrives. It's a shame it's not the original cut, but nothing I can do about that especially if I want it in Blu-Ray and 4K UHD (whenever that comes out).
EDIT: Now that Disney owns FOX, maybe that path becomes easier to a 4K UHD re-release in original cut?

I just wish Disney would go back to even just the original special editions.
The ROTJ blu-ray broke me.
