It looks like the evolution of the family car has been the station wagon -> mini-van -> suv -> crossover. Was there anything before the station wagon? What kind of car do we think the next family vehicle will be?

Usually I hate the whole fake CUV thing they do with wagons these days. But the Taycan Cross Turismo is a big time exception:

Just gorgeous. Not sure about the lines for the hatch opening, a little awkward but otherwise this is great looking.

If any of y'all are planning to get the new M3 or M4, tho I doubt someone is in here lmao, skip the fancy ass race seats.
I almost squished my nuts trying to get in and out of that thing. 😂
I can't post pics coz of there's still an embargo so here's a press pic:
See that little hump on the sides of the seat? That's the offending BMW-certified neutering device.
I have no clue how the fuck you're supposed to get in and out of that without squishing your bits.

Is Audi's e-Tron GT going to be their most reliable car ever because it's a Porsche 🤔???
One thing I noticed from the e-Tron GT videos is that it has... paddle shifters?? why

That's the regen control. Pretty gimmicky to use paddles for that. But they aren't the first. Definitely remember another car using paddles for something similar.
IIRC the manual versions of the previous gen Corvette and the 370Z use the paddles to control the auto rev-matching system among other things.
LOL.
We were doing training that day on the new M3/M4 and I got to drive it around but pics and impressions on the driving experience are still under embargo so the only thing I could talk about was that. 😂
I still think it's a serious concern though. The thing is so low to the ground as it is, you have to basically go in butt first then drag your feet inside to get in. If you try to stick your right foot in, then sit down before pulling your left foot in, it'll be painful as hell. Well, both methods are still painful either way lmao.
I went to go sit in a Cayman GT4 we have in our Porsche showroom and that one is actually super easy to get in and out coz despite the race seats, it doesn't have that little hump in the seat.
And for reference, I'm a fatty with a beer gut at 5'6" on a good day. So if my short ass is having trouble getting in, I can't even imagine how it'd be if you're tall. 😬
Anyway, I actually got to drive the base M3 with a stick and the M4 Competition, and well... gimme a few days ago until this embargo ends and I can talk about it lol.

Corvette, yep!
370Z nope. It has a button on the shifter console.
The tires squeal louder than the noise coming from the engine and exhaust in that Harris video. It's atrocious.
Chris Harris ain't wrong.
The M4 Competition drives excellently but it does NOT feel like a proper M car coz of that automatic transmission. Like yeah the ZF 8-speed is amazing, but it still sucks the life out of the car, especially one that's supposed to be the balls to the wall performance car. That lag he mentions seems like a tiny little thing, but it's quite noticeable(especially after driving a DCT F80 M3 and the stick G80 M3 back to back). It feels very connected but disconnected at the same time.
The base M3 with the manual, on the other hand, is the way to go, whether you think it's a proper M car or not is up to y'all but the manual definitely enhances the fun factor of the car and the feeling of disconnection from the car is non-existent.
If you can live with the looks of the G80 M3, then get the stick version and absolutely skip the automatic. But if you need the auto for whatever reason, then skip the G80/G82 and find yourself an F80/F82 instead.
Btw these impressions are all based on the street driving, there's no track time involved unfortunately for obvious reasons. Tho then again, they probably wouldn't let me drive on the track coz I'm only a lowly peon lol. 😭

Like Tesla, Volkswagen has recognized that people won’t buy electric cars unless there is someplace to charge them. In addition to underwriting a charging network in Europe, Volkswagen will install 3,500 fast-charging points in the United States and 17,000 in China..

Woke up to this news. So sad. The entire automotive world is gutted, she was an epic driver and personality.
Audi is moving on from the internal combustion engine.:|
On Tuesday, and executive for the German luxury marque announced that it will no longer develop the traditional combustion engines. While the company won’t stop selling the gas-powered mills just yet, the move highlights the brand’s commitment to lowering emissions going forward.
Speaking of Audi, my dad is finally back in one again. Got a 2021 A6 3.0T - he loves it. He said he'll never buy a Benz again.
I just returned my A6 loaner, but with the 2.0T. The 2.0 is a surprisingly capable little engine, it really moves in the mid-range.

After the chaos of Monday's accidental leak, which many (Autoblog included) initially interpreted as an April Fool's misfire, VW of America hurriedly outlined its intent to rebrand in support of its long-term electrification plans. Starting in May, VW's U.S. operation will be known as "Voltswagen of America." Still don't believe it? Here it is, from VW of America boss Scott Keogh:wat
"We might be changing out our K for a T, but what we aren't changing is this brand’s commitment to making best-in-class vehicles for drivers and people everywhere," said Keogh. "The idea of a ‘people’s car’ is the very fabric of our being. We have said, from the beginning of our shift to an electric future, that we will build EVs for the millions, not just millionaires. This name change signifies a nod to our past as the peoples’ car and our firm belief that our future is in being the peoples’ electric car."
This Voltswagen thing has to be a prank because someone over there can't fucking read a calendar and dropped some april fools shit early.
It has to be a prank.
Our reps are fucking with us and aren't saying shit lol.
And just a few days ago, VW USA Corporate had their big dealer meeting/press conference(think Apple's WWDC but for VW dealers) and they spent 2 hours faffing about upcoming cars, dealer goals, and more importantly, a change in marketing direction and the name change was not mentioned at all.... unless I somehow fell asleep in the conference room and no one bothered to wake me up. 😂
Anyway, here's some delicious content:
It's Matt Farah's new show and it's essentially a history lesson on the Yellowbird so it's fantastic content.

Early April Fools gone awry: https://apple.news/Ajl3aG6EVSUuZVrUQhYYovQ
Signed my lease on our first car together the day before yesterday. An A4 Avant Proline, would've liked an S-line, but since I'm not SLAENTelite....
Anyway the dealer was supposed to call me yesterday to book a time when I could pick up the car. And he hasn't. Pisses me off, but will give him some more time today and then let him know what I think.
This is the official and biggest Audi dealer in the city and country, so I'm a little bit surprised by this too. Tomorrow they will raise the taxes on cars, but I hope that I'll either get it today or that I'm already the owner since I've already signed the contract so the registration date will not be in April.

You know, I don't think the early April Fools joke was actually a bad idea. But I think the leak on Monday kinda lessened the effect, though I can see how marketers would still consider it a win as that led to VW being a hot topic for 2 days at the very least.
I remember last year nobody was in the mood for jokes and despite being able to see the light at the end of the tunnel right now, I think there might still be some hesitance in doing April Fools this year.
So by doing it earlier, we're all laughing at the fact how VW can't read a calendar... but the fact that we're talking about that aspect instead of trying to tear it down by connecting it to an ongoing pandemic surely is a win in someone's book I think.
EDIT: Installed a new car mod today.

I've really been feeling the itch to go to a track for the first time ever. If GPU's are still unavailable by the end of the year, I will probably make it a birthday gift to myself.

Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Hermann said there were two passengers in the Model S Tesla, but neither one of them was driving the vehicle. One person was in the front passenger seat and the other person was in the backseat, Hermann said.
At some point, the Tesla, which deputies said was traveling at a high rate of speed, crashed into a tree. The car then burst into flames.
Hermann said it took firefighters four hours and more than 30,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire.
At one point, crews had to call Tesla to ask how to put the fire out, Hermann said.
