My mind says yes, but my wallet…my wallet says no.
Anyone remember Nikola, that other EV startup that GM had a stake in?
Well, you read that right... had.
Don't invest in vaporware kids, invest in vaporwave instead.

Pretty sure Alpha's a doctor... the only customers we get that can impulse buy a 911 or Taycan are doctors. 🤷🏽♂️
Well, you read that right... had.
Nikola announced a new memorandum of understanding with GM, one that was non-binding and one that would replace the previously announced partnership agreement. It is ... a big walk back from that previous one, which had GM taking an 11 percent stake in Nikola. That stake at the time was worth some $2 billion, and the announcement sent Nikola stock soaring.
Today’s announcement, predictably, sent Nikola stock plummeting.

Haha, I was talking used 991s though.
991.2 S could become future supercar bargains because they're so underrated from the factory and have a TON of tuning potential.

I caught feelings for my R8. Will no longer consider renting it out.
I am a hopeless human being.
That said, I'm happy a few circumstances prevented me from renting it out because I no longer wish to work with the people who were going to be a part of the venture. I will likely explore another option with a friend of mine who is currently in the business already.

By Adam Go To PostR8 envy is serious business. 🥺
Adam plz. You're a doctor.
Seriously though, the car is very affordable imo. Buy a good one for $90K and get an extended warranty from Fidelity it costs $3K for 3 years/36k. $5k for 5 years/60K miles. For $93K you have an every day supercar without worry.
Speaking of, oof. This second year scheduled maintenance bill on the Cayman. $1.2k 😓
Granted, the yearly scheduled maintenance, a recall, and a punctured tire replacement are the only times I have had to bring the car into a shop, but still.

What in the world are they doing to your car that adds up to $1.2k? And also, you can find plenty of Porsche mechanics to do the job for cheaper.

I saw something about an "engine restoration". Should have taken a picture. I did just try to call the service person who worked with me and asked them for more details and why it was so much higher than the online estimate from their site. They weren't at their desk, so I left a voice message. They will not be able to start working on my car until tomorrow, so I still have time to figure this out.
Thank you for the sanity check that I failed.
By reilo Go To PostEngine restoration at 20,000 miles?Yeah. Waiting on them to call me back. Will call them again after lunch if I don't hear back.
I thought it may have been a thing for these kinds of cars but I guess not.
I'm curious to know which dealer you took it to... feel free to slide in my DMs if you don't want to reveal it to everyone lol.
I've heard stories but most of them are quite positive... and that's mostly because the Porsche community here is so small and tight-knit, word gets around faster than a 911 at the 'ring.
So yeah, I'm curious to see which one this is. 🧐

By Smokey Go To Postengine restoration at 20k?I talked to the service person on the phone a little bit ago and from what I could understand, it was about replacing some engine fluid or something? I dunno.
wat?
idk mane
By Kibner Go To PostI talked to the service person on the phone a little bit ago and from what I could understand, it was about replacing some engine fluid or something? I dunno.
From what I see online, it's:
Oil & Filter
Cabin/particulate filter
Pre-cabin filter (located in frunk)
Brake fluid
I usually wait longer to replace the interior filters (unless you are extremely sensitive to allergens). Brake fluid, I doubt you drive your car hard at all... IMO, probably unnecessary 2 years into ownership for a commuter car. I'd just do the oil change and have them reset the light. And get the brake fluid change done at Porsche specialized shop.
If you're concerned about the cabin filters, research them, they might be simple DIYs. On many Jaguars they LITERALLY take 10 seconds to replace.
Do Porsche's have one system for the brake and clutch fluid?
That's the only reason why I can think of as to why they're recommending the change... coz even on my GTI, the recommended interval is every 2 years or 20k miles. And last time I had to do it, I spent around $400 just for the brake/clutch flush.
I'm actually coming up on the same service myself and I was gonna get it done this month(I literally just overhauled my front brakes with some new rotors and EBC Red pads yesterday lol) but I need Christmas money so I'm gonna get it done next month along with new rotors and pads for the rears.

^^^ Good point. On my old Z it was two separate reservoirs. Maybe on a Porsche it's the same.
Kibs, is your car manual or PDK? I forget.

e: Also, I talked with jongkookie and found some alternative shops (1st and 3rd party) that I can go to next time.
I got to see some Taycans in person when I went to drop off and pick up my car. They certainly look pretty nice up-close!
Alright...rant time. BMW dealers are a joke seemingly nationwide, I've been dreading taking my M3 in to the dealer. My M3 is, of course, a used car. But it has 3 recalls on it, 1 of which being the Takata airbag - I get like 4 letters a month reminding me to take of this. The other 2 are battery terminal cable and a blower motor wiring. I call up the local (and only) dealer here. They have 2 locations, one North and one South.
I provide them all the info they need, and they ask if I'll be waiting or need a loaner. Obviously it's 3 jobs, so waiting is out of the question. But apparently...so is a loaner. Why? Because the original owner of this car bought it in Palm Beach. So either I wait, or they Uber me home. I have to politely explain to him that there are extenuating circumstances here. This is a recall, this is BMW's problem, not mine. I've owned so many other cars from other dealerships and was still offered loaners when serviced at a local dealer. But Fields BMW won't do this out of spite?
Ubering is out of the fucking question because I'm not sitting in a stranger's car for 30 mins during a pandemic, why are you offering me this? I tried to be nice and polite, even with the 2nd guy I spoke to, but eventually had to explain it the way I just did a few sentences up. This is some Nissan quality customer service here. And the reason why I don't buy new BMWs, because nationwide their service remains to be pure shit. My cousin experienced the exact same crap 2 years ago with his 340i in NYC.
I'll keep buying Jaguar-Land Rover products, as a result of incidences like that.

If you don't mind pulling a Karen, post this all over the internet where they care aka Dealer Rater, Yelp, Google, social media, etc.
Let's just say December is prime time for dealers to keep their pages looking clean as certain overlords are keeping a watchful and vengeful eye.
Worse comes to worst you get ignored but could send potential customers away from the place.

Thought about it. I'm dropping it off in the morning, my wife is going to follow me...such a waste of her time. My biggest worry now is that the car is returned clean. One of the fixes requires taking off some panels to get behind the A/C controls in the dashboard.

True. And you're in California too, which makes things 10x more difficult.

Loooooooooooollll
Still find it incredible that people willingly buy Ranges. Then again if you live in London you probably won't be doing much driving anyways.
They are sublime to drive... when they drive. They probably do worse on concrete than in mud or snow or sand 😂
By reilo Go To PostThey are sublime to drive… when they drive.
Can confirm.
A Cayenne is fun to drive, an X7 M50i is crazy fast and luxurious, but a Rover with a V8, not even the SVR Autobiography edition mind you, makes me feel like a fucking king on the road.
It's just pure luxurious opulence in a rolling box.
Now when you get an SVR Autobio Dynamic edition, lawd have mercy. It's an even more luxurious opulence box that can actually boogie. It's probably slower than a Cayenne S and base model X7... but who fucking cares. The peasants around you are fucking jealous you're in a Rover, and as for the people who can also afford it but got something else? Well, they're the ones missing out.
*This probably only applies to the States btw. 😂
Like seriously, out of all the cars I've had the chance to drive at work, it's really only when I'm in a Range Rover that I notice people staring at me like I'm some spoiled rich kid in college. 99% of the time, they don't really care if I'm in a Taycan, 911, Maserati, you name it.
Also if you want all the goodness of a Rover but in a slightly more reliable SUV, get an XC90. It's also quite sublime to drive, but it's also a Volvo so the peasants won't even bat an eyelid and you can stay waaaaaaaaaaaay under the radar lol.
By reilo Go To PostThey are sublime to drive… when they drive. They probably do worse on concrete than in mud or snow or sand 😂
They're as reliable as your Jag, m8. Save engine and gearbox. Same ECUs and infotainment tech. Their questionable reliability is largely in the past (much of it during the BMW-owned era), and any reliability concerns people experience with them today is mostly user error (i.e.: people sticking them in drive modes they have no idea about and wonder wtf is their car doing?)

So weird...went to order rear rotors for the M3. Find the OE Zimmermans on Turner/ECS. They're $530 with shipping and taxes. I go to cross shop the part #, and ECS has an eBay listing for them with free shipping and no taxes. Saved myself $70. Wtf?
Why not at least offer free shipping on the page if you're offering it on eBay? :\
Luckily, I bought the last set they had on eBay.
