If you lease, never put money down. Don't be afraid to ask for invoice pricing. If you don't like the numbers, walk away. If they offer an extended warranty, those are highly negotiable -- but if you're buying brand new never buy extended warranty. Just keep saying no and you'll get far.

If you are buying brand new, an extended warranty doesn't really give you noteworthy extras. You already have a standard manufacturer's warranty which is already extremely comprehensive. In essence, you are paying for two overlapping warranties.
It's akin to having a default 2-year product warranty on your TV and then paying Best Buy for their in-house warranty. Maybe if something catastrophic goes awry and the manufacturer refuses to fix it but the seller through the second warranty will, but that's rarely the case.
However, if you are buying used and it is out of the manufacturer's warranty or close to it, a dealer warranty might be worth the extra peace of mind.

Personally, if I’m buying new, I have the math done before I walk in. Meaning, I decide on price point and run my own math at various interest rates. Then, like Reilo said, say no to everything else. Including dealer added extras if that’s a thing. If the dealer is trying to charge you, tell them to remove the extra or remove the price.
By DY_nasty Go To PostThinking about a Subaru BRZ or Jaguar F type.
Really not sure which way to go.
Bruv...it's like comparing a Kia to a Merc.
I got $20K off on my 2020 F-Type R. You can probably skim at least $5-7K off of invoice from an overstock 2020 V6 340HP car. You can buy a used V6 or V6 S for the price of a new BRZ and still have warranty on the car if you buy certified pre-owned from Jaguar.
If you lease, don't put any money down. Just pay your 1st month's payment, DMV/registration, and bank fee. That's it. I prefer leasing in more dense areas, because if your car gets hit, you don't have to worry about the car losing value due do a bad CarFax. Insurance fixes it, you ride out the lease, and return it back to the bank. It's not your problem and you'll NEVER be left upside down. Cars depreciate and that's what you want to pay. Only buy a car once it's been used a bit and depreciation curve has slowed down (typically after year 2 or 3).
Jaguar is a well recognized brand here, but for some reason people think they're A) Extremely expensive (i.e. Bentley level) or B) Unreliable. Both couldn't be further from the truth. A neighbor of ours thought my F-Pace S was $120K, when I told them it's $70K, and starts at $50K they were stunned. They must've thought the F-Type R was $200K. And it's not the first time I've heard this.
I guess it's kinda cool the cars look more expensive than they really are, but it's obviously hurting the brand a bit.
Not that it's an indicator by any means, but I've had people ask if my F-Type was a Ferrari before lol
By Christberg Go To PostPHEVs are just now starting to not suck IMO. Most of them have a 15-20 mile range and a minimal power boost that gets eaten by the extra weight. The only ones worth a damn (IMO) are the upcoming Rav4 and the BMW X5 xDrive45e which is out in EU now.
The BMW is a monster with 450 HP and a 54 mile range. But it's expensive and if you're PHEV using a turbo, supercharger or both is just adding an entirely pointless failure point as far as I'm concerned. Probably a damn fine vehicle if you lease it though.
Gotcha.
Are PHEVs considered generally reliable?
By NinjaFridge Go To Postsmokey trying to flex
No?
Ive never heard anyone confuse a Jaguar with a fucking Bentley.
I'd say YMMV on whether PHEVs are considered reliable. I'd ask what the reliability history of the company is recently, how much history they have making hybrids, how complex is the design and how close to a clean sheet design is it. Or put simply, out of the 2 of those the Toyota's almost certainly reliable but I definitely would lease, not buy the BMW.
By Smokey Go To PostThat's….odd. First I've heard that.
I've never heard anybody think Jaguar is on that level.
That's because you know better. People think Jaguar they think of E-Type, XJ220 and Britain. To them it instantly means: oh shit, it's expensive as fuck. There are tons of people who don't know Jaguar has entry level vehicles like the XE and E-Pace. Or even a fully electric car like the I-Pace.
Edit: Nobody is confusing it WITH a Bentley, fool. I'm literally talking prices.

I get it. I've just never heard Jag or Bentley mentioned in the same breath by anyone for anything, until this topic came up here.
I don't own a Jag though.

I still think the GLC63 takes the cake on for stupid, fun daily. Cayenne is just a nose too big IMO.
For that size class though, that's awesome. Gotta go coupe for the bitchin' houndstooth seats too.

what are yalls thoughts on the supra?
come to think of it, i haven't seen one in person since it was released.
i guess toyota wasn't too happy with the 2020 model themselves, if they changed so much for 2021.
It's a good car that unfortunately gets overshadowed by it's BMW cousin once people find out.
I feel like it's also an ultra-niche product coz it's too expensive for a Toyota(which is kind of ironic coz the 3L is actually a better value than the Z4), has an "outdated" interior(previous gen iDrive), and in general there's just too much BMW in it rather than Toyota.
Another issue is that I think everyone who's interested knows Toyota has special plans for the car but they're being shady about it instead of just outright saying it and getting it done.
I predict that if they don't announce a manual tranny for the 2L or 3L for the 2022 model year, they'll cancel the entire line after 2024.

Cayman still fun as all hell. Get compliments on it every now and then. I get super embarrassed if it isn't shiny and clean when I take it out somewhere during the day, which keeps me hand-washing it every 2-4 weeks.
Have gotten a lot better feel for shifting while accelerating quickly over the last year. Still working on removing all perceptible lurches (mostly related to just quickly taking my foot off the gas and the sudden loss of increasing forward momentum), but there are no more hitches when up-shifting. Unless I mess up, which is pretty rare now.
Want to work more on smoothing out my down-shifting and also not being so scared to give a little extra gas when taking off from a hard stop because I'm still too slow off the line for where I want to be, but am scared about messing up the car.

I went to check out the Supra as a possible upgrade to my base 981 Cayman, and for me the interior is a big no. I'd fit but it'd be a major, major pain to get in and out of and with a helmet on I'm pretty damn sure it's a no. The roofline has a weird scallop out of it that I'd definitely hit my head on and the seating is low, but very upright.
I've been meaning to check out the M240i and see what I think about that. I've seen M2s around and those are rad but probably a bit pricey for what they are.

yup, he talks about this at 3:30 in the video I posted. actually gave him neck pain as he was getting in and out of the car throughout the day(s).
The inline-six price increases by a smidge, up to $51,945, including the $955 destination charge. That’s a $1,000 increase to the base model, but the Supra 3.0 Premium only increases by $500, up to $54,490. Toyota gave the 3.0 more power this year, re-tuned the suspension and added bracing, so you are getting a bit more for your dollar in 2021..
If you want the Supra 2.0, it’ll be $43,945.
Speaking of the 2-Series, I saw the new generation out in the streets, and man, if you cover the BMW badge and grill, that thing is unrecognizable in the worst possible way. It's shape is all weird and funky, it looks like a bad Audi A3 knockoff but nowhere near as handsome, and it might as well be a budget Korean car. It's almost as disappointing to look at as the original CLA and a huge downgrade from the last generation.

Because the Brits know design. Best looking cars on the market, by far.

I kinda like the 2-series sedan. Yeah, it's a FWD thing, but it could've been worse. Still not sure why it gets a coupe variant using the same name though, when everything else in BMW-land gets a different name for a different body style. So fucking confusing at this point.

I love em. Seen more than a handful now and it's just really cool. I don't think the power increase is legit, I think it's always made 380HP, but I'm waiting on dynos and 1/4 mile trap-speeds to determine that.
That said, things like dropping options and re-tuning suspensions is more common than people think. Happens all the time. But the bump steer issue legitimately sounds like a problem, and fortunately they fixed that. I'd be upset if I bought a 2020 and had the small display and the bump steer issue, though.
Edit: Found a dyno from Car and Driver.
346WHP vs 388WHP
Wtf. Early adopters got the shaft. It's an easy fix with some software, but still. Holy shit. These cars are making M4 power.

M4 power with quite a bit less weight.
And yeah, It appears early adopters really did get hustled. I think everybody knows buying a new car in it's debut model year can come with some catches, but outright reconfiguration and increased power in 1 year? Damn lol.
Hard pass

It's really is something how quickly the GT R faded away in relevance, at least to me. There are so many more options now at that price range, that I don't ever think about it.
Although the GT R may be an unfortunate victim of Nissan not being all that good over the years.

It also was a $70k car that ballooned to $120k in its lifetime without any true exterior or interior improvements. That thing was ripe for a proper refresh -- and it got plenty great under-the-hood and drivetrain improvements -- but it could've used a refreshed front and interior.
The GT-R Nismo is Lambo prices: $210k 😂
EDIT: It got a "facelift" in 2017 but I'll be damned if it looks marginally different.

Tried to see if work would order this BMW 2 series for me: https://www.bmwusa.com/build-your-own.html#/studio/e8696b87/summary
They said it'd take a minimum of 9 months to get it in... and that's being generous lmao. They told me I'm better off keeping my eye on other dealers to get a dealer trade done, but dealers don't usually order that spec anyway coz no sane person would buy it, and unfortunately they're right. 😔

LOL Tesla. Initial quality in the tank. Cars rolling off the lot with 2.5 problems upon delivery, basically.
3 year reliability:
You know, looking bad, the one BMW I don't mind a large grill on?
It's so well integrated and works with what they are going for in the way the new 4-Series does not. If the 4-Series followed that? Phew. But unfortunately, sad.

Yes and no.
The 3 year reliability measures every little complaint a dealer logs when a car is brought in for service, this is including user error. Their rating system is legitimately broken in the modern world of cars, despite being the standard that all press releases quote.
