So what's new in the automotive world?
Welp, Jaguar's still awesome.
The Jaguar XE-S has been earning praise from the world over. And it's damn fast. Here's a run to 123MPH. Took 16 seconds.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cQjpw62p6U
What do the critics have to say?
Once enthusiasts drive an XE, it's game over for anything else in the class. You've been warned—start saving nowhttp://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/news/g6059/12-things-you-need-to-know-about-the-2017-jaguar-xe/
And there's tons more praise you can find about the XE-S. It's virtually unanimous.
Then Mercedes decided to get awesome too. With this:
What is it?
Mercedes-AMG GT-S
[*]505HP Twin Turbo 4.0L V8
[*]7-Speed Dual Clutch Transmission
[*]AMG E-Diff
[*]AMG Suspension
[*]0-60MPH conservatively estimated at 3.7 seconds.
This car effectively replaces the SLS AMG, which quite frankly never had the iconic design of past Benz halo cars, including the McLaren SLR.
But someone at Mercedes didn't think limiting this motor to one car was a good idea. So here comes this:
The Mercedes-AMG C63. It's got nearly all the same goodies as the GT-S, but with 4-doors.
I'm also seeing a ton of CLA 250s around. Theres 3-4 alone in my parking garage. The look of that car also bothers me.
This was truly mindblowing having come from a mostly Mazda background. Mazda dealers always treated me like a criminal any time I went in to get service done -- especially for stuff under warranty. Every dealer refused to provide me a loaner and basically the options I had were "we'll call Enterprise to pick you up so you can pay out of pocket" even if the car was having a TSB done that took a good half-week or more.
By reiloI'm taking the M3 in for service on Monday. Initially I tried scheduling something for Saturday and do the Wait thing, but their service rep called me and told me it's probably best to drop it off Monday morning so they could give me a loaner.

yeah you'll probably get stuck with a 320i or something but it's better than a kia something from enterprise.
co worker of just got his 2015 m3 in that he ordered last year. white w/ black rims. looks nice but the bumper in person looks weird and the quad exhaust looks too small? dunno. i think i liked the m3 better in pics, but in person i like the m4 better.
I don't like the rear quarter profile of the M4. The taillights kinda... stick out? Is that a new safety regulation? I like the smooth lines of the back of my M3 a lot more.
By reiloA 320i will be marvelous and better than any car I've ever owned that isn't my M3.

that top pic is what i was getting at. the bumper is too much. it covers up the exhausts. everything is done for safety reasons but cmon.
i dig the m4 in person though. it definitely has a certain stance to it on the road. darker colors suit it better imo. lighter colors for the m3. what color is your e92 m3?
My M3 is Interlagos Blue.
By reiloMy M3 is Interlagos Blue.
i like that. goes to my darker color preference for the M Coupes. that blue is different enough to be nice without being attention grabbing like the diarrhea Austin Yellow Metallic on the new model.
But sometimes the exhaust's sound really bothers me.
By reiloThe CLA looks cheap. If you slapped a Hyundai badge on it, I wouldn't know any better.
So vulgar lol!
By reilo$500 to replace my battery. Fuck yo.
You went to BMW?
I had to do this a few months ago and got the same quote from them. Told them no thanks. Found an independent shop that did it for $225
They say a new battery needs to be reprogrammed or whatever, which makes sense, but $500? Geez. Definitely gonna shop that one around.
Got an X1 loaner car... the interior feels so damn cheap. Hard plastics everywhere. Wtf.
By reiloI heard a weird clank-clank noise coming from the rear of the car (which is now gone, thinking it might've been a soda can in the wheel well or something weird??), so I'm having them visually inspect it and just do a once over first service kind of thing so I know exactly where my car is at. Getting oil change, brake fluid, and a couple of filters replaced. Gonna be… uhm expensive. Gulp. Yeah. At least the oil change is a long interval one and recommended once per year.

I'd not listen to them on that tbh. I change mine like every 7k miles or so. A year seems too long for these type of engines. But then again I'm paranoid.
It's funny you have that reaction about the battery. It was the same as me. You can definitely get it done for cheaper but the battery programming is the important part. If it's not done correctly that could be bad news.
And yea, definitely don't want software/electronic issues on German cars. That's bad news all around.
By reiloI drive around 5-7k miles a year so it's the same to me.

Sorry to break it to you, but oil changes aren't usually dependent on mileage cycles. 3000 and 6000 miles are thrown around as a measuring stick for interval length based on average driving habits. For example, if you drive 500 miles in 3 months, you should get that oil changed. Conventional motor oils can breakdown and wear when not in continuous or intended use (there are specialty motor oils that car collectors use that have solvents in them that prevent this, for example).
If you drive 5-7K miles per year, change your oil after 6 months. I also know that your commutes are short, which is worse for infrequent oil changes. Oil is one of those "whichever comes first" situations. Sort of like a tire. Just because its tread is still good, doesn't mean it's safe to drive on 10 years later. So yeah, 6 months.
By Angelus ErrareOnly Hyundai vehicles I really like are the Sonata and Genesis Coupe, maybe the Equus just because the interior is dope as fuck.
Those two borrow heavily from the designs of Mercedes-Benz (I'm old school so should I just say AMG?), Jaguar, and perhaps Aston Martin. I'm a family man, so a Sonata will be an upgrade over the 1999 Camry I drive now. But if I had the money for a Genesis or Equus, I'd just buy a real luxury car and go German.

This thing is incredibly hot. Fuck.
If I had straight cash like that, I'd definitely add that to the stable. I've seen two around here. I've seen one S65 version. That bitch almost caused my neck to break and result in an accident staring at it.
In other news I've been drawn to Challengers lately. Went to some dealers today. Hellcat is out of the question. One spot told me my best bet would be next years model lol. They did have the SRT versions though and I was in love. Only had manual so I couldn't test drive.
But... I DID test drive the Grand Cherokee SRT. Fully loaded it was 72k. Fucking wow at my little amount of time with it. Black with 21'' black rims. That thing is stealthy good.
that black merc looks like its hood is melting.
so why did benz phase out their gull wing homage so quickly? not a fan of the successor

Disagreed. The new AMG GTS is gorgeous in every way possible. The SLS was bland and boring.
The second-gen sedan comes to the US in 340-horsepower and 380-hp variants – torque remains fixed at 332 pound-feet – courtesy of Jaguar Land Rover's familiar 3.0-liter, supercharged V6. The new XF's straight-line performance should be just as entertaining as it sounds, too. The rear-drive, 340-hp XF will hit 60 in 5.2 seconds, while the rest of the range can get there in 5.0. That marks a significant reduction compared to the first-gen V6 models, which used their 340 hp to sprint to 60 in a more leisurely 5.7 to 6.1 seconds.
Hnng.
It's so beautiful.
God save our gracious Queen

Bentley is in the midst of a world tour with its EXP 10 Speed 6 concept. Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show last month, the concept subsequently appeared in New York and now in Shanghai, and will stop in the Middle East on its way back home to England. The purpose: to gauge reactions from potential customers. And so far it's reportedly been pretty good.
Speaking with Autocar in Shanghai this week, Bentley CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer said most of the potential buyers who spoke to the company after seeing the concept have encouraged Crewe to build it. The only adjustments it's been asked to make were to the front end. Those LED ring headlights look interesting, but would be unlikely to make production. And the grille would likely be more swept back than upright.
By lawlohwhat Go To PostTest drove a mazda 3i/s, a 2015 wrx, and a 2016 outback limited today, and the wrx stole my heart. The mazdas were totally underwhelming and though the outback was REALLY comfortable, it just didn't grab me as something I'd be excited to pay 30k for and drive every day.
Never bought a car new before but I've read this thread on reddit -https://www.reddit.com/r/personalfinance/comments/36pnp0/3_tricks_car_salesmen_use_to_take_your_money/ - front to back and noticed some really slimy, manipulative shit at the mazda dealership. The subaru people must have read the thread too because they were not pushy and very nice to deal with.
Anybody have the wrx? Do you regret passing up the sti? The sti would squeeze my budget really hard considering the insurance jump even though my record is spotless.
If I were you, I would wait on the Mazdaspeed3 to come out. Rumor is it'll be AWD and it's gonna be surely < $30k MSRP and wipe the floor with the WRX.

Can't wait to get a job and start buying cars. Aiming for the GT86 as my first, seems hell of a fun ride.
By reilo Go To PostDoing a little cross-thread posting since lawlohwhat posted in the old OT.Yea it looks good. I still have to drive a GTI too. I got a great offer on a wrx yesterday but I'm probably gonna wait it out for a while. I'm probably an inch too tall for the premium/limited wrx because of that fucking moon roof. Plus, hatchbacks are the shit.
