Ball said his Junior Basketball Association – which he said is fully funded by his Big Baller Brand – plans to pay the lowest-ranked player a salary of $3,000 a month and the best player $10,000 a month. Ball is looking for 80 players to fill 10 teams that will seek to play at NBA arenas in Los Angeles, Dallas, Brooklyn and Atlanta.

"Up to 10K a month" on the high end would seem like about 100K a month per team. You would want 16 teams I would think, at least. 1.6 million a month in overhead for players only. Gotta find coaches, Venues, advertising etc etc.
By reilo Go To PostYou can't just start a league out of nothing like this. The infrastructure alone is crazy.
I'm assuming he wouldn't be doing this on his own.
By Fenderputty Go To PostI'm assuming he wouldn't be doing this on his own. That doesn't invalidate what I said though. Like, this might take two years just to hash everything out before you can even consider playing a game.
There was an article earlier in the year about some billionaire trying to start another basketball league and he's been attempting to do it for 5 years but keeps hitting snags. Shit is really difficult.

By Fenderputty Go To PostLavar's league has more potential visibility I think. How ?
Every NBA team is getting a G-League team.
The G-League has been adding 2 teams a year for like 5 years.
6 new G-League teams this year taking the total to 26 teams, already one new one next year (27).
Six NBA franchises purchased new NBA G League affiliates that began play this season:
The Milwaukee Bucks purchased an expansion team that began play in Oshkosh, Wisc., as the Wisconsin Herd.
The Memphis Grizzlies purchased an expansion team that began in Southaven, Miss., as the Memphis Hustle.
The Los Angeles Clippers purchased an expansion team that began play in Ontario, Calif., as the Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario.
The Orlando Magic purchased the Erie BayHawks. Their affiliate debuted as the Lakeland Magic in Lakeland, Fla.
The Atlanta Hawks purchased an NBA G League affiliate that began play as the Erie BayHawks before relocating to College Park, Ga., in 2019-20.
The Minnesota Timberwolves purchased the Iowa Energy and renamed the team the Iowa Wolves.
The Washington Wizards have purchased an NBA G League affiliate that will begin play in D.C. during the 2018-19 season as the league’s 27th team, the Capital City Go-Gos

G league ain't been shit for decades and has only recently started to turn the corner as a legit farm system, let alone any kind of draw. If ESPNs trash summer league tournament and Big 3 can't get air time, there's no reason why Lavar 's Fuck the NCAA and get money league can't start up. All it would take is the right group, maybe UA and even a few blue chip guys.... I'm thinking its overall in the NBAs best interest as well. Anything to drive that wedge against college hoops and further define the development league is good for the NBA.
I mean, if lavar was half the scumbag he said he was, hed have disappeared back when lonzo was at UCLA still... yal old af, but imagine jellyfam shout outs at Smackdown.
These kids want to get paid, NBA doesn't want to be held to that, NCAA would rather die first. I got more faith in lavar than I do in diddy buying the panthers

right ... he's a hype man. He starts a league the amount of screen time he'll get on TV where he will shit all over the already hated NCAA will be insanity. The insane barrier to entry that Reilo brought up is the issue. If he can get over that hurdle somehow, I think he's got a shot.
Not to mention you KNOW the AAU guys will be involved heavily to showcase guys. If the TV money comes into play... fuck yeah it's actually doable.

If LaVar could pull this off competently, I would be very supportive of it.
I feel like you have to basically fuk your life up to consider this. Like...do shit like LiAngelo Ball or maybe end up inelligible like Enes Kanter or LaMelo. If you've got any doubts at all about making it to the NBA, then getting a full ride to college and 4 years to prove yourself seems like the better bet. There's also the social prestige pressure--getting a degree, enjoying the college life vs being a professional amateur player for BBL.
If you're Ben Simmons good and know you're 1 and done barring an injury and just want to get paid...is the 40-80k (depending on season length) even worth it lol.
Basically this is a league for fuckboys--literally

Adam Silver has long been a non-fan of the 1 and done rule. When he came in, more and more NBA teams started to get G-League affiliates. He along with the NBPA (who are also anti 1 and done) have been making the G-League more and more relevant to NBA teams.
I think you'll find that the reason is, this is going to be Silvers answer to 1 and Dones. He's going to add a new contract, a Highschool contract, that as long as you haven't played professional ball at all (and maybe be under 25? or similar qualifiers), you can sign up and get a guaranteed $50k salary, and still be draft eligible.
And be coached by coaches that have NBA orgs behind them, instead of college coaches that just want to win now.
It would allow the NBA to train the young guys more too, about the pitfalls of fame, and the grind of an NBA season.
The NBA aren't really interested in clown college latvia lavar controlling all the young NBA talent.

If a season is 15 weeks long and a player makes 5K a week while seeing if he can make the NBA in four years, I would argue this is the better route to take for anyone who can do this. That's 75K. How many college graduates make that much. If you're playing to see if you can eventually make the NBA and don't, you can go to college after you leave the BBB league and pay for it yourself. Or parlay that job into a HS coaching position or something.
I'd love a separation of college and athletics in general but that's a whole other can of worms especially since the NCAA is a bunch of corrupt scumbags (as well as some of the administrators and coaches at Unis) and it's not gonna happen any time soon.

Probably not the NFL. I think the NCAA football has surpassed the NFL in popularity? Maybe it's just close to it? Either way, there are way too many people who live in BFE that root for their local D1 college above anything else because it's all they got locally.
I feel like basketball has the best shot at this because the NCAA product is so bad with the one n dones.
