Why wouldn't they have a chance?
Much is documented about Harden and the Rockets but when they lose in the playoffs...it's to better teams. Last year SA was a better team. They beat the Rockets 3-1 in season series, and beat them in the playoffs. 15-16 to Warriors, 14-15 to Warriors in the WCF. They haven't lost to a team in the playoffs that was inferior to them in the Harden era.
It so happens that this year the only team that I think is above Rockets out west is GSW, and they're an all time squad. But to be fair have to see what Spurs look like when Kawhi gets back in shape. But even then I think the changes they've made this year put them ahead no matter how slight or large that is. Rockets have improved dramatically on defense and I don't think yall realize how much of a help CP3 is in terms of another playmaker and elite ball handler.
So yes , they have a chance. That means most likely beating the Warriors, and with how they play combined with the additional defenders this year, it gives them a better shot than anybody else out west, imo.
But I'm sure if they lose to a stacked Warriors team we'll hear how trash they are.

Of course the Rockets have a chance. They're that much better on defense this year. Signing PJ Tucker was one of the best moves of the off-season.

i'll believe it when i see it. until then they fraud.
The Warriors are the best 3-point shooting team in the league with an average of .399.
When the Rockets shoot sub-.399, they have gone 17-4 (.810, best in league).
When the Jazz shoot sub-.399, they have gone 3-13 (.188, worst in league).

By Smokey Go To PostWhy wouldn't they have a chance?I don't like how much jinxy energy you've brought to the team. :/
If D'Antoni / Morey find those 10/11 bench dudes so that Harden can actually rest when he's injured / not play Ariza 40 minutes a night, I'd feel a lot better about this team.
A fresher Spurs/Warriors would walk over us if we played the way we did against the Bucks/Jazz.

That's like saying a fresh x squad would walk over warriors based on how theyve played against Lakers.
Since the Jazz game on 12/7 , rockets are in middle of a 9 game in 15 days stretch up to the clippers game this Friday. Basically playing every other day. I expected some fatigue and it really showed in the b2b game against the Bucks coming off the Spurs win the night before. Pulled it out even without Capela who would've been useful they way that squad is built. The game yesterday jazz were doing a decent job until they could no longer contain the great Eric Gordon who busted it open.
I think there's also a bit of realizing they can turn it on/off late in games when they want to vs going suns and getting 90 in a half. They need to be somewhere in the middle.

A guy is injured on the Rockets, and the response is to play him, or make the rest play more minutes, never to extend the bench. It isn't the same at all, and the Spurs and Dubs are the only ones who could be that fresh come playoffs.
We lost Nene last season, went to a 7-man rotation and then proceeded to get smoked at home the very next game. I don't want it to happen again, yet here we are in December, and how many guys are we playing?
Yep. Playing 10 guys a night and giving 35-38 min max to your stars even when multiple guys are injured is something Kerr and Pop do on the regular. Don't think just cuz lebron can play 40 min a game in the regular season and still kill it in the playoffs that every player on your damn roster can too. lebron is a fuckin cyborg lol

Lakers also played Warriors close in their first game irrc, but I get the point. Agree with everything else tho.
Cp3 is a asshole and Harden is basketball Snidely Whiplash but I'm still rooting for the Rockets/D'Antoni to chip. D'Antoni winning a title would rub it in the faces of the dumbass Knick fans who thought he was the problem over Melo...

We shoot the 8th most threes in the league and our offense is mediocre so when our main option doesn't work, we lose.

Not really. I'd rather take Rockets doing what they do than lolzo shooting airballs 3x a week, we good.

.
I watched a team shoot (5?) straight 3's against a team playing Jerebko at Center. Harden could have scored at the rim at will but nah these stepback 3's look cool doe
Rockets are a good team that play ugly basketball. Plenty of good teams like that have existed throughout the history of the NBA.

I don't even know what ITWMTB was referring to what we were arguing about? Dipro made a comment about Rockets having a chance to chip. I responded, but I guess I shouldn't of actually expected a sports convo about it.
2017 Rockets are just Inverse-Knicks from the 90s. Doesn't mean I enjoy watching either extreme spectrums as far as style of basketball is concerned.

Ok...but where was the disagreement? I pointed out in my post who Harden era rockets teams have lost to. Other than that I agreed with CP about rotations so who and where were people arguing. I don't even know where style of play came in, anywhere lol

It's a weird argument to make. "They're good, therefore they are fun to watch!" And like I said, plenty of good teams over the years I hated watching.
"When the Jazz shoot sub-.399, they have gone 3-13 (.188, worst in league)."
I'm just confused by this, we shoot a lot of threes and are pretty mediocre so when our threes miss, we lose.
Not sure the point of it, lol.

.399 as the cutoff is also hilarious, making the best shooting team the barometer. That's an EFG of 60%.
League average is 36.4% and the Rockets shoot... 36.8%. A more interesting stat would be to see how the Rockets do when they shoot below their average, not some hypothetically high 40% lmao
By Randolph Freelander Go To Post.399 as the cutoff is also hilarious, making the best shooting team the barometer. That's an EFG of 60%.What's even funnier is that the Rockets shoot 43 3-pointers per game. That's 13 more than the Warriors. If the Rockets were hitting them at a 40% clip they probably wouldn't lose another game.
Okay, what I found:
If the Rockets shoot between 34% and 36.8%, they are 7-0
If the Rockets shoot below 34%, they are 4-3
Talk about small sample sizes.

I don't even mind the threes. Fire at will.
But don't deny it's a 3 or die team. We can all see the shot charts.

So, as long as the Rockets approach anywhere near the league average in 3PT%, they are most likely going to win the game?
