Being a Toon fan, I dislike Souness as much as the next man, but Horse...some big leaps you're making to suggest he's racist for criticising the mental aspects of his game
By Vivalapizza Go To PostNot sure if Souness has form for the ‘black player is great cos look at the power’ type thing – but I do think he raises a couple of fair points.
Pogba’s defensive awareness is really bad – plain and simple. He regularly leaves gaps and lets people run off him. Maybe it’s a discipline thing or an understanding thing, I don’t know, but it’s an issue in his game that leaves us exposed at times.
I also agree with Souness that Pogba isn’t the type of player that will dictate the flow of a game. But I think that’s just the kind of player he is. He is actually very similar to Gerrard in that way.
We need to buy somebody in the summer to play alongside him. A proper Carrick replacement who can sit at the base of the midfield - that will improve the team and Pogba massively.
I don't know if it's the PFM in him or what but if you go back and read his quotes, he doesn't even explain what this "basic stuff" that Pogba doesn't do/understand actually is (or maybe he does in the full footage?). Going back to older quotes suggests he thinks it's slowing the game down and playing sideways and backwards passes. And he has taken games by the scuff of the neck and has dominated. Whether those games are big enough for Souness, one can only assume not.
I agree with your point about not tracking runners tho.
I'm with Horse.
Souness probably isn't racist, or meant the statement to be racist, but constantly criticizing Pogba for inane things...
The last one is fucking suspect. He has been one of our best players this season. Defensive wise, he's not great, but how the fuck can you say he doesn't have a basic understanding of his position, when he's currently one of the best at it?

"I want to see Paul Pogba do what Fellaini does," said Souness, who won five league titles and three European Cups with Liverpool, and managed the club between 1991 and 1994. The Scot went on to describe Pogba as "a bit of a YouTuber" who has not won much in his career.
"Where I question him, whether he'll ever be a top player, is his understanding of the game.
“This isn’t me being an ex-Liverpool player caning a Man Utd player. I thought the same when he was a Juventus player.
"That is basic stuff you learn in the youth team. He's 24 years old if he's not got it now when is he gonna get it?
"He hasn't taken a big game by the scruff of the neck and dominated it. He hasn't got a basic understanding of his position, I can't see that changing.”

Pogba only has four league titles, two domestic cups, and a European trophy to his name at the age of 24.
But yeah, he hasn't won much.
But yeah, he hasn't won much.
Why the fuck would you want to see Pogba do what Fellaini does. I mean im sure he could do it better because he's a better player. But why would you want him to do that. Souness is just absolutely off base here.
I am probably the dirtiest of dirty casuals when it comes to Futbol, so please take this post with a grain of salt, but if any of you are willing to humor me, do you think Brasil is going to be trying to get revenge on Zee Germans (/Turkish) anytime soon? And if so, how many doppelgangers of Pele is it going to take?
Souness is a bitter old git, but I'm not sure he's an out-and-out racist. A lot of ex-managers/players turned pundits (white or not) display this kind of ignorance.
With that said, do I believe Pogba ruffles more feathers in general because of being foreign and black? Yes.

I think there's more xenophobia than I do racism really tbh. The same pundits have been sucking off Loftus-Cheek for being merely decent in a friendly.

oh yeah. Germany stands no chance against the power of Paulinho and Tite.
Brazil is my pick for the cup.

thatd be sick on a wall
Moyes is "considering" dropping Joe Hart for Adrián, but hasn't yet decided and will leave it late to make the final decision.
Dumb cunt.

I just think it's all a bit... dog whistle-y. "Youtube player" and going at his intelligence. Doesn't sit right. I mean, fuck, why not call him lazy while you're at it to complete the trifecta.
But yeah could just be a more general xenophobia I suppose.

We have a manager now.
We are not Arsenal anymore.

Souness was a midfield player that ran around kicking people. Wouldn’t surprise me when if Roy Keane feels the same. It’s a dumb thing to say even for him, but it’s not hard to understand why he thinks that way.
Souness is a bitter old cunt, and there is some diet racism to his statements but he's also an equal opportunity xenophobe. He's just as capable of having a go at any foreigner.

You just know Glenn Whelan and Darren Fletcher are his ideal midfielders.
I was just wondering, does Pele still have the greatest all-time legacy in the sport? Like, is he still the Michael Jordan, for comparison, of Futbol?
My favorite player was Zinedine Zidane and that was just because of the awesome headbutt he gave to that classless scum on the Italian team.

It's Messi. He's the best ever. If someone tells you otherwise that person is probably your dad, and is wrong.

it's Ali Daei, he has scored the most international goals in football. stats don't lie.

Pogba is much more suited to add balance to the midfield rather than creating, but that’s just my opinion. The Fellaineh comparison is fucking stupid from Souness. At least Pogba is much better technically and physically than Fellaineh.
I’m not saying that Pogba’s decision-making is good btw, I think he’s fairly average with that, but he’s a lot better than Fellaineh in terms of positioning.

I knew it would be you. I knew you wouldn't be able to resist.
Scholes on Luke Shaw: "I don't think he lives his life as clean as he possibly should do. With his body shape, he looks like a player who needs to be playing every week. We had Wayne Rooney, who was a player if he missed a couple of games you knew, he wasn't looking after himself."
That's a nice way to say Rooney's an alcoholic.
