On Lukaku, it is notable how when he turned up everyone complained he can only finish and not contribute elsewhere, and then in a week where he's played an integral creative role in an number of nice goals and put in a real shift (which he's been accused of not being able to do, let's not forget) we complain about how he's not finishing. Like I get he's there to score but it's encouraging that he's already proving people wrong about his all round play. It'll come together in time.

I just dont understand why people say I'm excusing Lukaku. I'm not. I often call players out if I think they're shit, but there are times that I think players are better than people give them credit for.

I personally never thought of Lukaku as a pure finisher. He’s an all round No 9 player. What I said, and I think this holds true, is that he has a bad touch. He can’t control the ball in tight areas well enough.
My problem with Lukaku is he has so much work he needs to do that right now he feels like a signing we should make when we already have a recognised striker, he has so many deficiencies and rough edges to his game that people have to work around, he is all "potential" to me, which is fine, but we could really do with the finished product.

You should be happy to see Lukaku have games like he did yesterday. Nothing worse than an ST who can’t score or contribute in any meaningful way.
Thing is Lukaku brings other players into the game, his sheer presence drags defenders hither and dither so guys like Mata, Martial and Flute Prince can get into great scoring positions.

the only thing about Lukaku i actually find issue with is that for someone built like a linebacker he's much more of a finesse player than i expected. that has positives (setup for the 2-0 yesterday) and negatives (headers, etc). maybe him and pogba need to play more basketball so he can get used to posting people up.
