Some of it is a bit extraneous and repetitive and it offers a frustrating amount of questions that I assume will never be answered - world-building is fine, dick teases because JJ is not - but the new characters are great, it's energetic and propulsive, and the first half hour or so in particular is how to make a blockbuster soar. Solid solid solid.
Let's hope Rian knocks it out of the park with TLJ.

I still think the first 25 or so mins up to hans shit are the best sw has ever produced in terms of an opening, better than Hoth, Character development is just wonderful. Bloated as f middle, ending is really nice but the ending would have been much more impactful, including the fight in the skies, if the middle was better.

I think the Rathtar scene is pointless, there was surely a less clumsy way of introducing Han. The stuff at Maz's with the force vision is ultimate tease nonsense. Snoke being known by the likes of Han and Leia grinds my gears a bit because it feeds the narrative that he has to be a uber-important past character. Everything outside of that I enjoy an awful lot.
Driver in particular really impresses me on rewatches, especially when you acknowledge he's trying to be badass and failing because that's the character, not a failing of the script or performance.

Agreed, but I think she's no worse than Hamill in ANH. Both have that amateurish earnestness that makes them appealing.
