At least 26 people were killed in Sunday's church shooting in Sutherland Springs, Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott said at a press conference. About 20 others were wounded, said Freeman Martin, a regional director with the Texas Department of Public Safety, with victims ranging in age from 5 to 72 years old. Among the dead is the 14-year-old daughter of the First Baptist Church's pastor, Frank Pomeroy, according to his wife, Sherri Pomeroy, the girl's mother. The couple were traveling out of state when the shooting occurred.
Authorities have not said what may have motivated the suspected shooter, who was later found dead in his vehicle. The shooting has devastated the small Texas town east of San Antonio, described as a place where "everybody knows everybody."
- The suspected shooter has been identified as 26-year-old Devin Patrick Kelley, according to two law enforcement sources who have been briefed on the investigation.
- In April 2016, Kelley purchased the Ruger AR-556 rifle he used in the shooting from an Academy Sports; Outdoors store in San Antonio, Texas, a law enforcement official said. He indicated he didn't have a disqualifying criminal history when he filled out the background check paperwork at the store, the official said. Kelley listed a Colorado Springs, Colorado, address when he bought the gun.
- Kelley was a member of the US Air Force and served at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico from 2010 until his discharge, according to Air Force spokeswoman Ann Stefanek.
- Kelley was court-martialed in 2012 for assault on his spouse and assault on their child, according to Stefanek. Kelley served a year in prison and received a bad conduct discharge in 2014, the spokeswoman said. His rank was also reduced, she said.
- Speaking from Japan, President Donald Trump condemned the shooting as an "act of evil" and called it "horrific."
- "We don't know names of any of the victims at this time," said Wilson County Sheriff Joe Tackitt in a press conference Sunday evening. As victims are identified, next of kin will be notified, he said.
Apparently he should've have been able to purchase the gun because of his criminal history, but it wasn't reported. Lovely.
The sad thing is... it's becoming routine. Also the color check and appropriate response to said attack... if white:

Not is not the time to talk about gun control

Is now the right time to talk about gun control? Or are we gonna kick this down the can again, and again, and again... (I already know the answer).

Yup.

And with this, there's nothing else I have to say on the matter. This is the kind of shit that makes me want to move to Canada.

Yup. That was it . Kids gunned down, and nothing.
Hey did you guys hear Trump clairify it’s a mental health problem and not a gun problem. Thankfully his tax cuts won’t affect metal health programs right?

Like... what the fuck?
I’m starting to think when I’ll be in the middle of a mass shooting.
All this is normalizing since nothing is happening with gun control.

Another day of domestic violence spilling out into the public sphere because we do nothing about it. Couple this with the ease of acquiring weapons and you get this shit.

Instead, they said the gunman had sent “threatening texts” to his mother-in-law as part of this ongoing dispute.Called that shit.
“This was not racially motivated, it wasn’t over religious beliefs,” Freeman Martin, a regional director with the Texas Department of Public Safety, said at a news briefing. “There was a domestic situation going on within the family and the in-laws.”

So shoot up a bunch of people in church because you don't get along with your in laws? Everything about this is just ...
By DY_nasty Go To Postwhelp...... It's crazy this country even get's up in arms over something as simple as more extensive background checks. A job can do it but a gun store shouldn't be able to....
By DY_nasty Go To PostJust be right out on the street after cracking the skull of the most vulnerable human being that exists.
Oh also "Texas shooter Devin Kelley tried to bribe underage girls for dates."
Double whammy of shit.

if they won't give a fuck about kids getting gunned down they won't care about anyone else
I admit, I've been desensitized to these after all these years of tragedies. All I have is disappointment that the cycle will continue. Concerts (multiple times), Churches (multiple times), schools (multiple times), they're just gonna keep happening in the same place or new ones to check off the list.

Minorities arming
I'm still just in awe (not really our society is trash about letting violent ass people run around) how dude stalked exgirlfriends, "dated" minors and attempted to, beat animals, his exwife and fractured an infant's skull and in a year he's just out of prison. Sounds like a person well on their way to doing great things. Glad he could just go get guns too because of shit oversight and the general ubiquity of them. Americuh.
