It's not about a primer on orthodoxy, but, rather, an opportunity to familiarize yourself with new ideas regardless of whether or not you'll agree with them. Besides, Marxists themselves are a wildly heterogeneous lot. Ask two Marxists for their views on some abstruse concept or theory, and you'll receive at least 3 competing responses.
