I take my closed back wireless cans basically anywhere. I only switch to in ears when it's really warm outside. Or if my destination is something like a gig or just a place where a pair of headphones would be a drag to have on me. Then a small case with earbuds is easier to store in a small pocket. A nice plus of headphones during winter is that they also keep your ears warm next to providing sweet tunes. But maybe that's something mostly bike riding Dutchies can relate to.
My amp broke! I think has a blown fuse. I'm not getting signal from either output.
My 2 year warranty literally ends this Sunday.

Proper timing but that sucks.
I’m gonna have to use my Argon SA1 amp to power my speakers for a little while. Have to return the amp I loaned from work. That makes me slightly unhappy. It will probably be February or March by the time my new amp arrives.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to wait a while too.
Thinking about Devialet and Naim as a temporary all in one replacement.
I just brought my amp to the store and they've accepted it for repairs. The manager had a laugh when he saw the end of the waranty date.
But Mother of ganja... Class A is heavy. I literally had to take a breather.

If they run a good business they would have repaired it anyways. Even it was barely out of warranty. We actually silently extend it by a whole year to be lenient with warranty cases. Helping the customer as we say.

I don't know if they'd do that here but they're dependable fellows.
Don't know if anyone cares, but I was perusing this guy's headphone database (he has the frequency response charts for *a lot* of headphones): https://crinacle.com/rankings/headphones/
I noted two very affordable headphones (available on Amazon new for under $200) from his rankings:
Closed-back | Shure SRH840: https://www.shure.com/en-US/products/headphones/srh840
Open-back | AKG K612 Pro: https://www.akg.com/Headphones/Professional%20Headphones/K612PRO.html

I would also throw in the AKG K361(I own these) for under 200. Comfortable, good sound tuning and cost under 100. Heard the K371 sounds just as good.
Won an Amazon gift card at work so I bought that Shure SRH840. I will now have a solid stable of very different wired headphones that I like.
My Shure SRH840 came in yesterday. Used them a bit yesterday and some more this morning.
- they do sound really quite good; probably the cleanest and most balanced of my three headphones (Grado Hemps are a tiny bit looser and not as good low end; Audioquest Nighthawks are much looser and have a dominant low end)
- the fit is pretty good; much more comfortable than the Hemps but not quite as comfortable as the infinite adjustability of the Nighthawks
- the sound is really constrained in a tiny area around my head; it is a closed back so I expected it, but not to this extent (the Hemps are open and NIghthaws are semi-open)
- it blocks outside noise about as much as I thought it would; background noises that were present with the Hemps are now muted and previously muted sounds are now absent
- it came with a "10 foot" cord but it is one of those curly things, which made me laugh
- it also came with an extra pair of replacement pads, which is nice!
- the only "case" it comes with is a fake leather bag; meh
Overall, I am very impressed, especially for $150. A good purchase.
e: oh, it is also a pretty ugly pair of headphones, but I am mostly using it for work so that doesn't matter lol

lmao Shure released a new version of the 12-year-old headphone I bought just days after it was delivered to me: https://www.shure.com/en-US/products/headphones/srh840
It looks prettier (no exposed wires and possibly nicer headband cushion) and comes with a straight cable instead of a coiled cable (which is a legit upgrade). I saw in a press release somewhere that they did intend to alter the sound of it somehow, so I'm not upset or anything that I got the previous version because I would like it to be tested and reviewed by some people first, anyway.

Except for the golden accents (that’s a big nope from me) the new design looks much better. And some nice improvements on paper indeed.
A lot of people wearing headphones out and about lately. Maybe to keep their ears warm or whatever.
Haven't seen any of those Apple headphones in public though. Probably on the pricey side for most.

Yeah interesting you say that about Apple. I’ve hardly seen them out in the wild either. Really expected them to spread like their earbuds tbh. Apple fans usually aren’t scared of by steep pricing, it’s kind of their thing.
People with headphones in general feels pretty normal to me for years now. A lot of small on ear models (Marshals are popular) and Sony’s out there.

They're growing on me but still marmite. Saw a pair of Dynaudio Confidence 20 today and I was kind of in love with them.
Brought the Tanchjim Hana 2021(179.99 freedom bucks) a month back. This pair IEMs is awesome to my ears. Very energetic with great bass and mids
Good on ye.
I ordered some cheaper ones for commuting. Don't want to spend a grande on something that I'm going to use 30 mins a day. Ideally, I'd get the Moondrop S8 but that looks to be sold out everywhere except China.

These look flashy Kuma, enjoy!
I finally was able to pick up my Bowers & Wilkins PI7 true wireless buds last week. Availability of these is/was a bitch. Really happy so far. They can pretty much replace my P7W headphones for commuting. Hopefully I can enjoy them a long time.

But we all know AirPods are mostly a convenience product with great ease of use. Sound quality is fine, but value for money wise you can always do better.
I'm about to find out. Moondrop Sparks (purple) for 80 Raheems. Should be arriving at the end of the month for me.

I got the Moondroo Arias. They are pretty cool. Something was missing from them so I got the Hana
I also use the default tips but the smallest size that came with the box. Gonna give foam tips a try and see if they are more comfortable for my ears.
Foam tips are pretty much always going to be more comfortable. You just have to replace them every few days or once a week or something as they degrade very quickly and start crumbling and falling apart.
I really didn’t like foam tips myself. But I’m also lucky enough that the small silicon size that comes with earbuds is usually perfect for me.
The small tips that came with my Drop IEMs are too small to get a good seal and the medium tips are just ever so slightly too large to be comfortable for extended listening sessions. :(

By MF Coom Go To PostDo they have an impact on the bass?Foam tips expand to fill your ear canal so you get the best seal possible. Having a good seal with iem's is key to maximizing their bass performance.
If you already have a good seal with silicon tips, the audible difference should be minimal.
Moondrop Sparks arrived and I've been listening to them for quite a bit. They have me at a loss because it's a very engaging listen but it's not the most dynamic sounding. Somehow they struck a chord between the two. Perhaps it's the in-house signature that I'm digging.
Listening through Qobuz with cd-quality, I've thrown every genre at it and I'm kind of surprised at how refined the Sparks sound. Refined and competent. I need more time in the oven with these but at the moment I'm super satisfied that I splashed my money on them and would recommend them to anyone on a budget.

Happy with how they performed in the outside world. It was fucking windy outside too but I couldn't hear shit. It's bloody annoying when you're having a conversation with somebody though. You really have to take them out of your ears because they isolate well even when they're not pumping out tunes.
Yeah I feel the same with the B&W's about that last thing you say. Even when I'm at a supermarket just paying my groceries I feel more comfortable just taking them out for a bit.

Therefore, I listen to music at moderate volume.
A question for Linius and anyone else with experience, are Klipsch bad or is it a case of home theater subreddit being neckbeards and hating anything that's a known brand?
By Old King Rob Go To PostA question for Linius and anyone else with experience, are Klipsch bad or is it a case of home theater subreddit being neckbeards and hating anything that's a known brand?I'm not as knowledgeable as Linius, but I think they are generally supposed to be fine. Typically balanced/tuned more towards a movie spectacle than actually being balanced, but are still quality speakers. Can probably get better for the money, but much like Bose, most people would be really happy with them.
