By Perfect Blue Go To Posthttps://drop.com/buy/drop-thx-aaa-789-linear-amplifierNice! I've just been using my MOTU 8A and/or 8D to drive my headphones lately. They don't have super powerful headphone amps in them, but all my headphones are low impedance, so it doesn't matter. Can't say I have really noticed a difference between them and my Atom stack. Or, hell, even a difference between my Atom stack and my Behringer UMC204HD and UMC404HD audio interfaces.
Absolute killer deal oh my god
But it has also been a while since I last even tested so maybe there is a difference that I would pick up on now. I'm using the MOTU's with an HDMI -> optical out splitter in order to mix the audio from my consoles and PC into a single feed that I can then send out to my speakers and headphones.
The Behringers are there for me to feed my mic into and get real-time monitoring over headphones for any PC application of voice chat.
Maybe I should just get the MOTU UltraLite-mk5 to replace both interfaces with a single one that can do it all.

Super good deaI. My next upgrade is my dac and a pair of woodcup headphones
Figured out an easy work around to use my amp, headphones and 3D audio on the PS5.
A fairly cheap (£35) Sound Blaster USB DAC. Only just getting into setting it up, but so far seems alright. There’s a bit of distortion at high volume levels and it had some useless EQ settings…and a mandatory app for set up (but I believe it can be ditched once set up).
Other than that, volume set to full on the G3 DAC, 0.0 dB gain. Wired into my Atom amp, volume knob at the half way mark. It all sounds seemingly as it should. Beyond the half way mark, the interference is noticeable during quiet scenes. That’s a generally good volume level for me to go with though, so I’m happy with it.
Tried Ghosts of Tsushima and Returnal. Both are much improved over the 3D audio via HDMI.
For now I’m reasonably happy with this set up. Not perfect, but it works.

NAD is going to announce something exciting over the course of today. And I think I have found the perfect step up from my current C368 with this new device. I’ll drop a link here once it’s finally unveiled.

So NAD is launching a new flagship model in their renowned classic range of amplifiers. Packs more power, HDMI eARC, Dirac trough the new BluOS module and the new modules also allow you to stream things like your recordplayer to other bluesound speakers around the house. Also features a new phono stage that works for MM and MC elements. And they actually added subwoofer outputs instead of having to use the pre-out like before. For me personally this machine ticks all the boxes and feels like a great step up from my current C368 + Node 2i setup. Can’t wait to have them in the store to actually listen to them.

Hey guys, need to know if the Presonus Eris E3.5 studio monitor is good enough for running amp sims for my guitar as well as casual use, listening to music, playing games and so on. Seems to be the highest rated budget studio monitors.
I'll be placing it in a small bedroom so I don't need a large set of monitors, been using headphones/amp until now for the guitar and multimedia speakers for everything else but I'm not a fan of using headphones for everything all the time and the speakers are failing (I think I've had them for 10+ years)
It fits within my budget but I can go higher than that up to $250 if you have any suggestions.

I live in India.
Hahaha, how often I told myself to just eat and drink out less so I can buy stuff that actually lasts me. Not that it ever happens. Time for a pay rise.
Kinda mad at myself for buying a PS5. Took away from my ZMF Aeolus budget. This hobby can be so expensive
Yeah that's not ideal mate. Figure out which one you're going to use more and give it priority. Fuck a PlayStation. We're not running in the 90s.
I'm half joking because I genuinely spend a lot on chow now that I think about it.

I've ordered an iFi iSilencer+ for my bedroom pc because I can't stand the whizzing coming through the monitors anymore. Hope it reduces the noise (as advertised) without killing the dynamics. If this doesn't work then I'm going to get a proper streamer.
It's official, I don't like the KEF signature sound. A few years go I listened to the LS50's and today I spend a good amount of time with the Reference 3 in 30 thousand euro system. It did not tickle my gonads. Good but not great. I don't understand why they're so popular here.

Yes but a pair of speakers that costs 12k connected to a streamer that costs 10k should give you the fizz. No exceptions.
How should I describe it? They're wearing a straight jacket and the music is struggling to get out.

That's awful lol One of these years I am going to go to Can Jam. I want to try some high end headphones

Can’t say I fully agree with your statement. If a signature brand sound just doesn’t speak to you it doesn’t really matter how much they cost. Objectively and technically it’s still a great pair of speakers but the sound just doesn’t resonate with what you are looking for personally. And no matter how much they cost, it probably won’t give you the fizz in that case. To each there own, and audio is as subjective as things can get.
I have that feeling with Lyngdorf amplifiers. I really respect what they’re doing and I can totally understand why for some people it’s proper endgame gear. But for me it’s just too clean and dull. And we’re talking about a 5000 euro amp here. And I think there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s part of what brings excitement to the hobby. The constant search for the best sound for you.
I only use audiosciencereview for this shit and just listen to my music. Anything else is just extra nonsense tbh audio equipment reviewers are the biggest charlatans out there

If you can turn up the volume to eleven without your ears bleeding then you've got a winner no matter what the sound signature. In my case I couldn't go beyond a certain threshold and it was very disappointing that it could not fill the entirety of the space of the room. That may be due to the amplification though. Then again for the money...

I would throw an R2R ladder dac and Van den Hul cables into the chain to see what happens.
Yeah that’s fair of course. And amplification plays a big part in that naturally. KEF is notorious for needing some heavy amps to actually sound the way they are intended to. Even the internet’s darling LS50.
there was an Amazon sale here and the Presonus Eris 3.5 price got slashed by around $20 so I went ahead and bought it
not regretting it one bit, sounds fantastic. I'm hearing new bits and pieces from songs I hadn't heard before, it's like unlocking dlc for music. my Audio Technica headphones didn't give me that clarity either. can't wait to run some amp sims on this.

Even the internet’s darling LS50.This is why I prefer sensitive speakers first and foremost. Tannoy, Focal, Klipsch, Omega etc. preferably the big ones because bigger the box the better the sound in my general rule book. But yeah, you can have so much fun with just a few watts.
Whenever I walk into a store and the personnel just hands me an iPad my mind goes blank every single time. I really ought to create a mini playlist.

Yeah go to make a test playlist of at 20 songs you know well. Helps with evaluating new equipment
Typically you'd want to throw some well recorded as well as some shit recorded music at these 2 channel systems.
Artists I'd stream from the top of my head:
Julia Holter
Hope Sandoval
Massive Attack
Vangelis
Melody Echo Chamber
Marvin Gaye
Race Against The Machine
Bo Ningen
Nirvana
Grimes
Chastity Belt
Princess Nokia
Action Bronson
Childish Gambino

Nah, I work on the Saturday. And there’s F1 on the Sunday. Especially with Max still fully in it I’m not gonna miss a race now if I can help it.

This Sony WH-1000XM4 is a really nice upgrade over the M2 which I got 4 years ago. A nice birthday present to myself.
I heard good things about Sony wireless headphones
Just put in order for some custom cables. I am more or less at my endgame. Don't see a pair of cans in the 600-800 range I would want

I do.
Primaluna Intergrated with Tung-Sol EL34's and a Miniwatt with Sovtek EL84's.
I haven't gotten rid of either which means that I'm happy with them.

By Kuma Go To PostAnyone here have a tube amp?Been looking into getting one but idk.
I thoroughly understand tube amps for guitars but why would you want one for listening to music lol
That's a LOT of volume and you're not looking for distortion, so what am I missing?

Some people actually are looking for the distortion that tube amps bring. :v
They are also said to have a warmer and softer sound that some are a fan of.

Warmer sound makes total sense and there's music from that era that is especially attuned to that sound but overall in today's world for the way modern music is produced it doesn't make much sense imo, especially if you primarily listen over headphones.
They do look cool af though just never ever ever touch the circuitry especially on anything with higher wattage.

When you close your eyes you can imagine walking around the singer and in between the instruments. It does that 50 percent better than solid state. The sense of layering is better and the higher priced tube amps create a better sense of air.
Then there's tube rolling. Tube rolling makes a big difference. There are so many varieties out there that you could easily pass a blind test because every model has their own sonic characteristic. I remember once going from one brand to another brand that I can hear the brightness gone completely just because I changed tubes.
I'll just say tube amps change the sound in ways that are more appealing to some but not others and just leave it at that.

Probably need some high impedence headphones/stereo to take advantage of tubes yeah?
