The only reason I still use tidal is the free sub from work. Once that Spotify with quality audio drops I’m gonna get a subscription on the side. And once I got my headphone setup complete I’m set on doing a trial with Qobuz as well.
If the cd quality sounds on par to my ears with the Qobuz equivalent then I'll jump ship. All my playlists are on Spotify anyway.
On pace to go through three speaker systems in a week. My OG logitech sound is to ass and not worthy of my LG 27GN850. These Neumi BS5 speakers are trash because I need an integrated amp, speaker wire, and speaker plugs to use them. That's north of $220 foh and take this bullshit back Amazon. Now I ordered the edifier m3200s over the Kipsch jawns because the subwoofer explodes.
It's 2021 gtfoh demanding I connect speaker wires. All this technology and they want me to do extra work to get first world sound, GTFOH. Call me lazy idc idc idc.

Sweet, was able to get my docked Switch hooked up to both my headphones and PC speakers with a minimum of hassle.
First, I had to get a ground loop isolator because the dock introduced ground noise. Yuck.
From the isolator to the Atom Amp. Used the RCA out of the Atom Amp to the RCA in of my DDRC-24, which controls my speakers.
If a headphone is plugged into the amp, sound comes out there. If there isn't, the sound comes out the speakers.
Works pretty well.

So you using the Atom as a pre amp? My Asgard 3 came in! Cant really give a good impression til the weekend
By Kuma Go To PostSo you using the Atom as a pre amp? My Asgard 3 came in! Cant really give a good impression til the weekendFor my speakers but only when the Switch is connected, yes. Oddly enough, you can control the volume just like with headphones. I thought it would just output at "line" volume, but I guess not.
Legit the only thing I'm sad about the Audioquest Nighthawks being discontinued and not wildly popular in the first place is how difficult it is to find a replacement headband. The elastic in mine is way too loose and the headphones no longer fit securely on my head. I sent an email to Audioquest if I could maybe purchase a replacement from them or repair it myself somehow because I have been unable to find any other alternatives.

I feel your pain since the elastic on my K712’s is shot too. Easy enough to replace in comparison but I’m lazy.
Lol get it replaced. Nighthawks was one of my options back in December when I was look for a replacement for my SHP9500(went with the X2HR )
I mean, that's one of the reasons I got the Hemp. But I still like the sound of the Nighthawk so wasn't too be able to easy wear them again.

Ah that's a shame yeah. I can have a look in our database for you if we can still order spareparts. Let me know if everything else fails, maybe I can pull some strings.

I'll let you know! If it comes to that, I can even give you the part code Audioquest used for the headband.
Enjoying my Asgard 3 so far. Sound like atom with a litte extra characteristic(warmer, presented more details).
RIP me:
I regret we are now sold out of the leatherette headpads for Nighthawk & Nightowl headphones. Unfortunately our supplier is no longer able to provide us with these headpads. Our apologies for the inconvenience.
Alright, I’ll check our system for you. If I don’t see anything I’ll mail our head of spareparts to see if we still have a dusty corner somewhere in the warehouse with some pads.

Can you use Dekoni nuggets or custom pads?
By Kuma Go To PostCan you use Dekoni nuggets or custom pads? Not ear pads, but the headband. The elastic keeping it snug against my head so it doesn't drop has worn out. There exists replacement ear pads, even if they are rare.
By Kuma Go To PostWhoops meant custom headband*Link me to them because I have been unable to find anything that would fit.

Nothing to link. Was thinking you could make a bootleg headband lol

Simplifying my audio chain a bit on my computer setup. Replacing my DAC and headphone amp with the MOTU 8A I bought a few years ago. The DAC and headphone amp quality should be equivalent, maybe even better since this is supposed to be a pro-level mixing device. It also lets me mix audio from my PC and other devices (like my Switch) much easier.
Ended up removing a couple power bricks, a USB cable, and a few audio cables. Also saved some desk space.
E: could have simplified even more but it seems like the 8A doesn't amplify the mic loud enough so I to keep another interface. Or maybe the cable run was too long. I'll have to check another time.

Hmm... looks like there are pre-amps I could get that don't seem to require another power source and would eliminate the need for the mic interface for me, but they are like $100...
Sell some old equipment you are not using. Might sell my X2HR since my other two headphones make them make obsolete.
I checked our system today but sadly nothing to be seen for the Nighthawk. I'll wait for our spare parts guy to respond now to see if we can get a hold of that.
I'm gonna sell my Topping E30 already again. A local shop all of a sudden started offering Schiit so I pulled the trigger on a Modi/Magni stack. It won't get here untill somehwere in the second half of this month but I'm well excited to get it. I'm, actually redoing most of my desk set-up and replacing the chair so I'll get some pics up here when I've finished the whole project. But I feel like it's gonna take at least a month for most of the stuff I want to arrive.

I ordered a matched set of Tung Sol EL34 and 12au7. Both Russian made.
I don’t know what to expect but I’m hoping for some incremental improvements in depth and timbre after they are burned in.

This would be called tube rolling right?
Yeah. A while ago I borrowed a tube amp with Sovtek EL84 tubes sitting in it and it made me wonder what the heck I’m still doing listening with stock tubes.
By Kuma Go To PostDo tubes change the sound?Yes.
Also, I really want to try out these Meze Empyreans:
Only 32 ohms for a super comfortable, well-tuned, planar headphones? Wow! Only 3000 USD! :v

In stereo, the soundstage goes from Charmander to Charizard.
It’s kind of funny that the new tubes lean towards the solid state sound whereas higher end dacs lean towards analogue. One is trying to be like the other. Sometimes matching equipment is difficult because of that.
By Anya Taylor-Sad Go To PostAnd the presentation.Seems like people would be better off getting a DSP and running filters on it at that point.

Neither of them will give you the holographic depth that you typically get from a tube in a good tube amp. The heavier the better.
The cheap ground isolator was crunching a lot of the low end sounds so I got an hdmi audio extractor. It has optical out so I can plug it directly into my mixer and continue along with hopefully no further issues.
