I’m dying, nothing to report, ok so I’ll start with my GOTY:
It’s obvious I’m a soulsborne fan, I’ve been following Nioh since the alpha, watching the game get better with every demo they released I knew this will be something special and boy was I right, not only did it manage to cure the souls itch I had but it surpassed some of the previous games. Nioh stands toe to toe with fromsoft’s offerings, something other souls clones couldn’t do, the excellent fast paced combat is arguably the best this gener can offer, Kudos to koei tecmo, you guys better be working on Nioh 2

Persona 5. Even with the very frustrating hand holding, it's just so fucking good. Stylish, great music, fun combat, fun story, giant cock monsters.

Mine would have to be Mario Odyssey, even with only one day under my belt, which is crazy, I know.
There's been a ton of incredible games released this year, but this one just does something special to me.

Mine is definitely still Breath of the Wild. No other game this year has completely engrossed me the way that one did. I’m picking up Mario Odyssey today, and I’m hopeful that it can top it. (I’ve always been more of a Mario guy than Zelda, but damn, BOTW is a REALLY good Zelda.)

Persona 5 for me. Incredible game. Still working on a second playthrough with currently 198 hours clocked so far.
Persona 5 for me as well, i always hated JRPGs and turn based systems(except for Pokemon lol) but decided to give it a try and i absolutely adored it. The more darker tones and mature themes to most games of it's type pulled me in straight away and i loved the combat system and how varied each dungeon was.
Special mentions to Horizon: Zero Dawn, Yakuza 0, Assasins Creed Origins ( it's early but i can already tell it belongs in my list)and Uncharted: Lost Legacy.

I need to get a Switch so i can play Odyssey reading this thread, literally the only game that's come out this year that would be up GOTY contention that i can't play at the moment.

Destiny 2 is the best EXPERIENCE this year. Overall, a fantastic year, however, playing this, multiplayer, with old buds, and with banter is an experience I have never lived.
Technically the best videogame is BotW but the experience of Destiny is unrivaled
Sonic Mania is definitely my GOTY and probably one of my favourite games of all time. It ticked every box for me from gameplay to music. For only €20 it was a steal.
Shoutouts to BoTW aswell. Not my favourite Zelda (Majora's Mask) but it was a really solid experience and I'm still playing it after so many months.

Nex Machina.
I've put over 300 hours into it.
Fantastic gameplay. They throw you right into it and it's hectic from the beginning.
Housemarque's best game IMO.
...but now that Odyssey is out, that might push it out of #1. Photomode might give me 300 hours before I even beat the game, lol.

As another big fan of the Soulsborne Games - this game not only follows that formula but it deviates in just the right way.
The loot addition ensures longevity of the game and variety to your experience and it is a lot more focused on you actively moving and doing things.
Runner-Up: Breath of the Wild because I cannot deny it.

There's a real thoughtfulness that went into the design and how there's so many different ways to accomplish almost every single quest. Also, the opening hour is the most memorable video game thing to me in years. When you shatter the glass, when you come out of the hallway and find a foyer and see the true nature of the world. Ugh, it's so good.

I have bought it, just not got round to playing it yet. I definitely will do before the year is out though.
Ah I forgot about Nex Machina, it's in the running for me too. What a ridiculous year it's been. I must have half a dozen GOTY contenders still in my backlog to tackle.

Man I still need to play Nioh and Persona 5. Some really really good games dropped this year so it's gonna be tough. I've put about 110 hours into Breath of the Wild and I still haven't beaten it. I can see me doing the same thing with Mario. Of course Nex Machina is brilliant and one of my favorite twin sticks but not quite up there in the top three. Dark Souls 3 brought back a lot of memories from Demons and Dark 1 so I think that puts it up there, not only for nostalgia but it's a great game on its own. Then there is Resident Evil 7. This game is the reason I bought a VR and I have no regrets. Simply amazing experience.

Having to 1CC (on experienced or higher) to see the true boss is not easy, especially if you lose all your powerups.
Sadly, the developers have said the game hasn't sold as great as they thought so they are still unsure about DLC. Such a shame.

I still need to catch up on a lot of games, but my top favourites so far have been Resident Evil 7, Life is Strange: Before the Storm, Sonic Mania and Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap.
Yeah it’s Breath of the Wild for me so far.

20xx is great fun too, a fast roguelite version of megaman, that's worth a go if you haven't played it, 20% off at the minute in the halloween sale.

Liked Nioh a lot, liked For Honor, BotW was good, loved Prey and liked Horizon Zero Dawn.

I've got to give it to Horizon Zero Dawn over BOTW, both great, but I though HZD was honestly a better game. However, Wolfenstein 2 is sitting at home ready to be played, and Odyssey is fantastic.
I do have a major soft spot for Resident Evil 7 too. Never speedrun a game before, but this game made me want to.

Horizon Zero Dawn was great, Golf Story was charming, Everybody's Golf was a hidden gem, but that's about it for me. Just in terms of overall quality, nothing is beating Mario and Zelda. Crazy good year for Nintendo.
There are too many. Switch has such a strong lineup and then you have PUBG as well. It's all too much people.

Wanna be a real man and kill everyone yourself? Drop into one of the many hot spots such as school and military base. From there keep focusing on the hot spots you know people will be instead of hiding it out.
The game is what you make of it.
Someone finishing with 1 kill can have just as much fun as someone who finished with 35.

Made by Epic and comes free with the Oculus touch controllers. Its a bit short on content but it absolutely nails gameplay. One of those games where memorable moments just happen by chance.
