I haven't been to a theme park in a few years. I used to be obsessed with rollercoasters as a kid, and I even was an ACE member.
By Adam Go To PostPosting to reserve my place in this thread. Just wanna say, it's SL&ENT.Whoops. Fixed up. Thanks.
Just took my daughter to Disney Land. We tried to go before we have our second and can't for a while. I didn't know I could like small world again.
Im pretty pumped about the new star wars world. Should be ready to take my incoming son to the park by the time it's done.

I really think that the Star Wars land is going to be huge for Disneyland, along the lines of what The Wizarding World of Harry Potter meant for Universal. It's going to draw in a whole new type of customer that normally would not be interested in visiting Disneyland and explode park visitor levels, especially with it opening up before the Walt Disney World version.
In recent news, Disney has canceled the Eastern Gateway project, and now announced that a new hotel will be built in the west end of Downtown Disney, displacing the AMC movie theater that is currently there among other businesses. They are also planning some parking and transportation improvements on the west side of the park, too. The parking projects look to be open ahead of Star Wars land.

The company I work for is actually doing some of the work for Disney on some of their various projects. I'm kinda spoiled here in so cal. For the longest time I didn't even go to Disney land because Knotts and Six flags are also here.
Fuck Knotts Scary Farm btw. Crowded mess ...

Details about Pixar Pier, a re-theming of Disney California Adventure's Paradise Pier, were released today.
I'm glad that they don't seem to be removing California Screamin' and Mickey's Terror... errr.. Fun Wheel, but as with their makeover of the Tower of Terror in California, I'm more than a little sad to see these changes being made. I'm really going to miss the Neil Patrick Harris, "I know you're in a hurry, hurry, hurry, but for your safety, safety, safety" track from the Screamin' queue and the soundtrack on the coaster itself.
I think this article over at Disney Tourist Blog sums up my thoughts. Why? Not long ago they spent a bunch of time and money strengthening the California theme of that park with Buena Vista Street and now they are just ripping it up elsewhere.

Just renewed my annual pass. Still loving Big thunder mountain. Is it faster at night? Seems like it or it's too dark so it seems faster.
Just booked my ticket back to Orlando. It'll be my first time back in 4 years. Getting the hook up to since my best friend still works at WDW.
I used to work at an amusement park outside of DC called Wild World; it eventually became Six Flags America. Rest assured that everyone who works at a park hates you and just wants you to leave.
I have only enjoyed one amusement park: Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster, PA. It's a tiny little park and I liked taking my daughter there. Then she outgrew it and wanted to go to Hershey Park instead. I'm the guy who sits on a bench holding everyone's purses while they go on rides, and I prefer it that way.

I couldn't get over how dirty it was.

Can you come with me to the next park I go to so I don't have to be that guy lol

It's bad. The rides are ace though. I usually go once every 3 years or so to try the new coasters out. Tatsu was and still is my favorite.
Recently Disney suspended sales of the Southern California Annual Passes.
Crowd levels have been an issue at Disneyland in California and many message board DLR fans out there place at least some of the the blame on annual passholders. I think that this is step one in Disney's plan to start raising prices on passes leading up to the opening of Star Wars Galaxy's Edge.

Pretty pissed off about this, honestly.

Would you be more or less pissed if they raised prices tho?
Well, Paradise Pier is under construction, being flipped over to Pixar Pier. As with the Tower of Terror in Disney's California Adventure, I'm emotionally attached to California Screamin' (soon to be the Incredicoaster). I'm not sure how I feel about this makeover and not really sure it was needed. I don't think that Paradise Pier was an area of the park that needed to be addressed as opposed to the Hollywood Backlot area.
Well was just at Disney World last week and Flight of the passage is by far the best ride at Animal Kingdom. Definitely a worthy of an e-ticket. Animal Kingdom is nearly a full day park now. I don't even want to say much about it since if you ever get a chance to go to WDW you have to ride it. I say nearly a full day since you'll probably spend most of the day waiting in line for either of the Avatar rides. I went in totally blind and was completely blown away. Of course River Journey was meh and I swear the whole budget went into the insane animatronic at the end.

That’s effectively what this is for me lol. I was gonna get two passes
We just took my daughter to knotts, it’s so much cheaper but so is the production value. She had fun with Snoopy though.
My wife is taking her to Disneyland again while she’s off on leave. Maybe next week.
lol .. Disney got me. Got me the passes. We've been using them quite a bit. Kids are loving it. My daughter loves Pirates my son … not so much. Smokey do a Disney vacation and I'll meet you there!
Finally went on the new star wars ride "rise of the resistance".
Easily the most impressive ride I've ever been on. Not the most thrilling, but the most impressive and over all the best. The level of production value and immersion from the end of the line through the ride is just something else. It's like a combo of Indiana Jones and Star Tours but on crack.
You enter what's supposed to be a "transport". That ships gets attacked by the first order and abducted. The "transport" rumbles and such as you go through a short star tours like segment (This is still the fucking line BTW.) You go subterranean and exit the transport into an imperial star ship like your captive and ready for more processing.
From here you get "processed" by more guards roll playing things out. Eventually you end up in a cell and are busted out by the resistance and the ride starts.
You end up on one of the below. They're programed and NOT on rails. They just whip you through rooms that look like a billion dollar movie set complete with 50' tall imperial walkers.
Anyway the boarding pass thing kinda sucks but wow what a fucking ride.

By Kibner Go To PostThat "ride" does sound like a tremendous step up from Star Tours.
Hard to explain how immersive the line portion of the ride is. And it's not like the ride portion is short or suffers from so much effort put into the line portion either. It just means the last 10 minutes of your line becomes fun and part of the show.
Kib … walking into that imperial star ship deck is just mind blowing. That screen in the background is 3 stories tall. The level of detail was just something else. And like I said … the ride itself is amazing too complete with 50' imperial walkers you're riding under and around.
Not joking … my mouth was open the entire time. Just amazed.
I loved the Great Movie Ride and Hollywood Studios is becoming more and more Magical Kingdom Lite but this is still really well done.
Got a feeling it's not gonna last

Took the kid to Paulton's Park near Southampton yesterday and would highly recommend it if you have a toddler as it has loads of little rides and play areas. Also outside of Peppa Pig World it was empty so we could ride the rollercoasters without queuing at all.
Went to Chessington yesterday. Used to go quite often when I was a kid and have some strong memories of being shit scared of the vampire bat ride. Last time I went was probably around the turn of the millennium when I was getting a bit old for the kiddy theme park that didn't offer as many thrills as Thorpe Park or Alton Towers.
This time I was taking my 9 month and 3 year old boys. The youngest couldn't go on much and looked a bit scared on the things he did go but he was fascinated by the monkeys and the other animals in the zoo. The 3 year old absolutely loved the Gruffalo ride, which used to be Professor Burps Bubbleworks and the smaller rides like the spinning boats and the little log flume which left us soaked.
I was really impressed with the new Jumanji ride and the spinning dragons fury coaster which I had never been on before. It was also fun revisiting the vampire ride and the big swinging ship which are both still great fun.
Now is probably the best time of year to go as the weather is still nice but the park was empty. We didn't have to queue at all for any rides the whole day. I can imagine it being a bit shit queuing for 90mins just for one ride during the school holidays. The only issue we encountered was that we paid to receive digital copies of all the on-ride photos but the booths were unmanned and the app didn't work very well so we didn't get them all.
We are going with the in-laws to Disneyland Paris during half term week in October which is apparently one of the worst possible times to go. I am dreading trying to keep the kids happy in the massive queues.

Its a shame but I would say the Gruffalo was a good replacement if it weren't for the main character being voiced by James Corden
i went to Merio Land in Japan this year.
pretty small but extremely well made.
will be really cool if they build add a bunch of expansions and maybe a real coaster.

Going to Alton Towers with my dad, brother and nephews for two days on October 21st, staying at a holiday house overnight like we did last year. One of the nephews is too short for the main rides so I'll spend most of the time going around with him, but at Alton Towers there's plenty to do and see besides the main coasters, which is where it shines compared to Thorpe Park I think. Bit of a shame that the park takes up so much time, especially with the Scarefest opening hours, as it won't leave any time or energy to have a wander around Stafford countryside.
Not sure whether I'll buy access to the Halloween events this year, they cost silly money. Multi-day park tickets are surprisingly not too expensive when you book well in advance. Strangely, I fucking love waking up at 5am to go there since it makes me so nostalgic of doing it when I was a kid. Don't imagine we'll get anywhere near as lucky with the weather as we did last year.

Back from Disneyland Paris - all in all a very good trip. My eldest was ecstatic seeing the parade and meeting the characters plus I got to take him on some great rides like Pirates of the Caribbean and Big Thunder Mountain - the latter of which was pretty intense but he loved it.
My youngest got to go on some rides as well even though he was probably more happy just watching them go round and round. He was mesmerised by its a small world and the colourful characters and theming around the parks. Could have done with some places for him to just get out and crawl around though.
Since a lot of schools in Europe were on holiday we thought the queues would be manic but they weren't too bad. The threat of bed bugs and bad weather must have put a few people off. Luckily for us the weather was mostly ok apart from a couple of showers and we didn't have bed bugs in our airbnb.
I previously went 7 years ago and I feel like the prices have gone up a hell of a lot since then, everything felt expensive, food wasn't great and nothing had changed much since I last went. The original park is stunning to look at but almost all the rides date back to the early 90s and it really could do with something new.
The Studio park has some great rides and shows but it is a little small. Also the whole Hollywood theme doesn't really make sense in France. They had a new Avengers campus area which was OK felt like they could be doing something more exciting with such a huge and varied IP - The new Spiderman ride was a bit crap, felt more like an arcade machine then a proper ride also it had Tom Holland do a preshow thing but then dubbed him in French.
Overall a really good time but I probably wouldn't go back unless it gets some major updates
