As #MeToo continues to be a rallying cry, it has been revealed that the former president would regularly assault women with non consensual groping and bad jokes.
"At age 93, President Bush has been confined to a wheelchair for roughly five years, so his arm falls on the lower wait of people with whom he takes pictures," the statement said. "To try to put people at ease, the president routinely tells the same joke — and on occasion, he has patted women's rears in what he intended to be a good-natured joke."
"Some have seen it as innocent; others clearly view it as inappropriate," it added. "To anyone he has offended, President Bush apologizes most sincerely."
[Lind] recounted her meeting with Bush during a press event that he "touched" her from behind and told her a "dirty joke" before touching her again. She alleges his security guard told her that she shouldn't have stood next to him.
Is he senile???? that response was terrible but I remember when my friends dad went, we visited him at the nursing home he was at and he was harassing all the female nurses, I asked them if they were used to that and they said they've seen much worse. I guess at that age you just dgaf either way.

If the kid isn't old enough to know better, it's a free pass and they learn not to. People get mad/creeped out by old people, but nobody really says or does anything because nobody wants to punch an old man out. It's just this awkward "ugh, they'll be dead soon, not worth it" mentality.

To me, this falls into "old grandpa" territory, rather than some creep shouting "ass to ass!" and criminally assaulting women. He's a former President, and by all accounts I've ever heard, is a nice, polite man. He's in a wheelchair, so when he puts his arm around you for a picture (which might be an unwanted intrusion, but something that nearly everybody does when posing for a picture, man or woman), his arm goes across your ass and he makes a dad joke about it. Maybe he's an old pervert whose true colors are being revealed by dementia (like my racist grandpa), but I think I would roll my eyes and have a story to laugh about rather than be traumatized by a wheelchair-bound nonagenarian who goosed my ass.

Is anyone surprised? Feelings have warmed towards Bush Jr. in the latter years and he does seem like an okay guy - on the surface - but that family has a history of being completely awful.
He might be 93 years old but that doesn't suddenly make it alright.

I feel like it's more like 93 years gonna 93 year old.
At that stage 97% of your brain power is taken up just to not be dead. Should he have done it? No. But I have a hard time getting super outraged at someone that elderly. I don't know how likely it is that he even has a libido anymore.
The real tragedy is that this is now how George HW answers any dialogue he becomes involved in, with anyone, for any reason. And like a stopped clock, inevitably this means he will be right at least twice, and simple, grinding, tedious repetition will take on the illusion of genius.
There's always an excuse that men make for this type of behavior. "Boys will be boys." "It was just a joke, can't you take a joke." And now "He's got one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel, why cause a fuss?"

Dementia doesn't just make people shitty. It tends to really make shitty people shittier though and all impulse control gone. Also if he's grabby keep him the fuck away from people. And shame on anyone trying to downplay folks being assaulted. "Super outraged" isn't the point. The point is just stopping the normalization of fucked up behaviors behind tired ass excuses. There are people being assaulted, cut that shit out.
