By Lego Go To PostI bought a £174 b stock guitar from Thomann and it’s honestly one of the most beautiful guitars I’ve seen in person.
you can't say this and post no pics
I’m not much of a photographer with my iPhone but basically it’s a sparkly blue SG with gold hardware and I find the combination of those colours a bit sexy. It definitely pops.
Here’s a link
It’s B stock and it was hard to see any blemishes but I did notice a couple eventually, looks like there was a tiny chip out of the binding, under the headstock, that’s been filled in. I still love it though. It’s a darker blue in real life which I prefer.

Very nice. My second guitar was a cherry red SG copy by "Vintage" that I still think is one of my best looking guitars although it isn't that great to play.
Good scientific stuff behind why musicians wear IEMs. Never thought that marching bands would struggle to play in-sync so they watch the movement of their feet.
By reilo Go To PostGood scientific stuff behind why musicians wear IEMs. Never thought that marching bands would struggle to play in-sync so they watch the movement of their feet.I'll have to watch this video!
But, yeah, it was taught to us freshman year in high school that listening to the beat when doing marching band leads to a disjointed sound for the listener because sound takes a while to travel. It's why they have drum majors on the sideline conducting to keep everyone in sync.
It gets even more convoluted if you are a low brass player or play one of the bass drums on the field (instead of on the sideline). Due to them being several dozen yards behind the higher pitched instruments and because low-pitched sounds travel slower through the air than high-pitched sounds, they had to play slightly ahead of the beat. While still keeping their feet moving in time with beat, of course.
Yea the video explains that even at 50ft apart at a concert venue, the speed of sound induces 100ms lag between one player to the other, which is A LOT.
I just got a blue pac112v to mess around with. up until now i've only ever used my dad's old acoustic. no amp, just a usb cable
it's cool to get a real rock sound in my little GB demos now

legendary solo. top 5.
Tried out some high-end coated strings last couple of months and initially didn't like them because they felt too slippery. It definitely taught me to be a bit more accurate and softer on the touch.
I went back to my original non-coated strings because I told myself I'd prefer going back because I didn't like the slippery feel, and now these feel too abrasive 🤦♂️
The other benefit of coated strings is they're not as noisy when playing up and down the fretboard by making that fingertips against strings sliding noise.

This baby just arrived
Squier Classic Vibe '60s Mustang
Great setup out of the box, just had to adjust the truss rod and bridge action a bit, took like 10 minutes. Also need to change the strings and oil the fretboard, which is a must for any new guitar.
Sounds as sweet and beautiful as it looks, perfect for punk/post-punk/grunge/rock/blues. I got my ESP LTD EC-256 for heavier stuff.
Very comfortable and easy to hold and play too, being a 24" scale offset.
I should get them for my next string change, my fingers make a lot of sliding noise. (maybe skill issue too)

Congrats on the new guitar! How's it sound?
I love videos like this because there's legit pros in this video and then Mateus Asato gets a segment and just blows them out of the water. He called it "improvisation" 😂

By reilo Go To PostCongrats on the new guitar! How's it sound?
It sits somewhere between a Strat and LP in terms of sound. Very versatile, except for high gain stuff due to it's single coil nature and the noise but I got my LTD for that. Beautiful cleans and nails that grunge/post-punk sound when it's OD'd along with some chorus.
If any of you guitar guys are looking for a good stage mic, Earthworks has a "budget" $200 condenser mic that sounds fantastic. It even rejects a lot of background noise that condenser mics usually pick up:
I finally started learning how to play the guitar thanks to Rocksmith +. Their new app lets you use an acoustic guitar. Luckily I've had one that's been collecting dust for years. If I keep up with it I'm going to treat myself with an electric guitar.
Rocksmith is a good learning tool. YouTube is a good resource too.

My mind was blown when I learned that a minor chord is just a major chord with the third flattened. That's how basic my music theory is right now.

Posted it on the video games thread, but Rocksmith 2014 is getting delisted at the end of the month. It's the software that got me to take guitar playing to something beyond amateur, and it has thousands of custom songs on PC, so I would definitely recommend it to anyone.
Plus if you're on PC you can use your audio interface to play instead of a cable

My band released a second LP (A live album), if y'all would like to give it a listen:

Listening to it now. Impressions on first 60 seconds is that I love the energy. The only thing bringing me out of really enjoying it all is the vocals not being properly balanced with the instruments on the recording. Not sure if that is a sound engineer issue or just a flaw inherent to location and budget.
Still, thanks so much for sharing this! I'd definitely enjoy being at the club/bar this is being performed at.

Finished listening to it and, yeah, I liked it!
I skipped Juan 3:16 as it just wasn't doing it for me.

Decided on a whim - or as a result of being targeted by the algorithm - to buy a Fender Mustang Micro (headphone amp). Seems a nifty bit of kit.

I succumbed and ended up finding a '62 reissue Stratocaster (Made in Japan, 10/1991).
And... it's legit. For reference, I am directly comparing it to my 2020 American Performer Stratocaster. A good, yeoman of a stratocaster that has seemingly everything buttoned down.
However, all of the talk of Japanese Made reissues having a build quality worthy of praise are absolutely and unequivocally true -- at least the example I was able to acquire.
It's not that it's leaps and bounds astronomically different nor that my American-made is deficient by any means, BUT everything on the MiJ is just 10-20% a little bit better. Moreso made impressive by the fact that it's a whopping 30 years older.
The obvious thing that comes to mind is the neck. It's a C-shape, meaning a more curved fretboard, making it feel slightly smaller to grip. The fit, finish, and materials of it are just in damn near perfect condition, as are the frets (definitely leveled at some point), the back of it still perfectly sealed and smooth, and the attenuation pitch perfect at the 12th fret. Great action to boot.
But it's other smaller things that stand out that make a difference, too. For one, the volume and tone knobs are smooth and sturdy. The 5-way switch is far sturdier and solidly made than on my American-made so it's less prone to accidentally being knocked off position during strumming. The tuners don't have any wiggle to them and keep it in tune.
Then, oh man, and then there's the pickups. The tonal characteristics are far and away the most noticeable and noteworthy. They just sing. They are far more responsive and articulate, and their tonal character much more pleasing to my ear at least. Not to mention that I think they're hotter so they are louder (in a good way, don't have to boost as much) making them overdrive quicker but not exponentially increasing the volume where I have to adjust my amp down. At the fourth position they sound far and away better than my American strat which I found muddy most of the time. Even the middle and bridge pickups are far more tonally pleasing.
I have never played a Custom Shop nor an original 60s in good condition, but if those have another level to them I'd be hard pressed to believe so. After about a week with this '62 reissue MiJ for around $1200 I am having hard time believing there's another level to this. I'm sure there is but maybe it's recency bias but I am liking this one so damn much.
Anyway, here's a picture.

I like those CE24s. I know someone who collects PRS guitars and they always play great and look stunning. I also prefer the feel of satin maple necks like on the CE24s to the traditional glossy ones. Very nice

Ah just discovered this thread. I try not to get occupied too much by gear because it distracts me from the important thing (playing and practicing), but it’s addictive to think about.
But anyway I’ll share my lovely baby darling. This is a Momose MV HSS Strat-style guitar, from 2021, the last year they used Madagascar rosewood for their fretboards.
I basically stick to Japanese boutique brands because, living in Japan, I want to buy into the incredible culture of instrument craftsmanship that has grown here through the decades. This guitar is from the Deviser factory in Asuka, and is from their proprietary pickup line “Mojotone”. The bridge is a ‘59 PAF-style, so the range of sounds you can get from it is really broad. The body is alder with a poly + lacquer finish. Satin finish on the neck, which is quarter-sawn.

I wouldn’t for myself because I find PRS guitars feel a little too luxe for my taste, but for those who like that style of guitar I think you can’t go wrong for the money!
