It's really tough. My internal rhythm is getting better. I feel like I am mostly okay playing to a drum beat because it's easy to anticipate when it will be on beat, but when the tempo is slow and it's just 1 beat per bar? Oh boy

Don't know if you're doing it already but you should try tapping your foot along, really helps
I do but I am at that point where it's time to learn to keep the rhythm in my head and that's the tough one.

By Xpike Go To Posthave you played in a band/with other people? that helps you set your own rhythm quickFor me, I just lose focus on the beat when paying attention to other aspects of playing music to the point that I start to drag or rush to whatever my mind says feels good.
Also, I bought a Korg Beatlab like 15 years ago and it is amazing for helping to subdivide and stuff. Looks like they don't make it anymore, though, and I assume there are smart phone apps that are as good now.
Importantly to this discussion, you change relative loudness on each subdivision. It is mainly aimed at percussionists, though.
e: looks like Dr. Beat is still being sold and is an available substitute (if not outright just better): https://www.boss.info/us/products/db-90/

Tip for the foot trappers out there: tap with the heel of your foot instead of your toes. Less visible and less noisy.

The solo
probably the most talented modern guitarist, shame I don't care for his music at all. waste of talent.
got the itch to buy another guitar but I should really be buying a new proper amp. feeling limited by the Blackstar Fly 3 now that I'm a bit past the beginner stage and it's a bit tiring after work to do the audio interface + amp sim thing.
I've been itching to buy an amp as well, but I still live in a 1 bedroom apartment with my landlords above me so not sure I would get use out of it now. Smart money would be to wait until I move into a new place where I can play it comfortably.
I really want to try out a Mesa/Boogie California Tweed.

What a world
By Zabojnik Go To PostIt's a while since I've fucked with Bias. Which version are you using, Windows or Mac? Plugin or standalone?Windows, I don't know if this is because I bought the mid tier version but it works both standalone and plugin. I normally use the standalone version when I'm just experimenting with a tone or just playing along to YouTube and the plugin when I'm ready to record in FL. Honestly no complaints aside from the reminders of sales going on that pop up sometimes when booting up.
The audio before was actually recorded using a preset tone they have over a the backing track.
bought myself a Boss Katana 50 MKII amp. pretty sure its 50W setting could crack the windows in my house, haha.
the difference between having a real amp with a massive speaker on it compared to my previous Blackstar Fly 3 mini amp and studio monitors is incredible. it feels so good.
now I'm eyeing analog pedals despite having a multi-effects digital pedal (Zoom G3XN). GAS is fucking real, and this hobby is going to wreck my bank account if I don't control myself😂

I've been holding off on buying a proper amp until my move and getting a new place. I also want to go and try several different amps I have my eye on in person, which I feel is important.
Trying out a bunch of guitars when starting out isn't as (that?) important to me because not like I really kneww what I was doing back then. But now that I know how to actually play to some degree I'd like to get an amp in front of me to see what I like.

There's not many guitar stores here which carry a variety of amps other than the usual budget Fenders and Marshalls which don't sound very nice, so I had to order online based on youtube videos/amp sims and trying to figure out what amp sound I'd like and whether it would suit my purpose.
Tube amps were out of the question due to them not being bedroom friendly and maintenance can get expensive (discounting the initial cost of the amp itself) and a pain in the ass.
Narrowed it down to the Katana and the VOX VT40x since I really like the sound of the VOX AC30 and the VT40x models it, but the Katana won out due to the bigger tonal variety it offers and generally better reviews, it clearly beat out all of it's competitors sound-wise in the same (and even above) price range through my studio monitor headphones when I heard them side by side. I hear good things about the Yamaha THRII and it sounded good too, but it's not available anywhere.
I have a Boss Katana 100 1x12 MK1 which I got back when they were first released and I love it. I wouldn't pretend to be an expert on gear but I reckon they are by far the best amps on the market for the price.
I previously had the Roland Cube which I also loved and it felt like the spiritual successor (Boss is owned by Roland) but with more features, better tones and it could also take pedals really well which a lot of the digital modelling amps at that time couldn't do unless you kept them on a clean channel. Its great for playing at quiet levels, easy and intuitive to use and it also has plenty of effects on board if you want to delve into that kind of thing.

Came across this video about gain and signal-to-noise ratio while looking at an interface review and figured this could be useful to some people here:
Speaking of....
Not sure what to expect! I desperately looked around to see if I can even try some amps out in person but even any of the big box guys don't have them in inventory -- they have at most the most basic of entry level stuff. I can always return it within 30 days if I don't like it but we'll see.
I opted for an amp head only as I needed to budget for an attenuator as well, so later on I will look to get ahold of a cabinet and that way I can save some money by continuing to purchase amp heads (as they are cheaper than combos) and use my cab of choice. Maybe get something with Alnico Blues.
With the attenuator I can do DI and still play on my IEMs through an interface and not annoy my wife nor the neighbors and just use cab sims for now. The attenuator will also be super useful once I do acquire a cab because then I can play at bedroom volume while keeping the amp cranked at its sweet spot.
I really wanted an AC30CH but couldn't quite justify the extra price. Maybe I'll trade up for a AC30HW in the future.
On a final interesting note: the other reason I opted for the amp head is because the combo would have required me to modify it to support an attenuator. I didn't want to do that.

congrats! I really dig the VOX AC sound. from what I've read online there's a tube shortage going on so you might want to buy a few spares.
FYI for people wanting to learn how to play guitar or bass, Rocksmith has a mod that let's you plug your instrument into your interface instead of having to use their proprietary cable that is out of production: https://github.com/mdias/rs_asio
Another useful mod here: https://github.com/Lovrom8/RSMods
Gf and I are using this to help teach ourselves (though she was taught by an actual teacher years and years ago but hasn't played since).

Is Orange a good brand for small practice amps? The local shop here has a large selection of Orange amps in all kinds of sizes.
Orange are a great brand. The only one I tried was LOUD but it wasn't a practice amp
How is the Vox Reilo?

It's really stellar. I'm still getting the hang of it. Haven't played much since I've been traveling so need to kick it into gear again. I definitely prefer the Top Boost section.
I also bought a Mesa/Boogie California Tweed 1x12 can to complete the setup but it's backordered til September.

Thanks, guys! We have Crate BX-25 and a Peavy Minx amps but they are rather large for our practice room (~10" each). I was looking into getting something smaller for us that we could easily put away when not being used and would like to support the local business.
When I say 10", I just mean the driver size. The actual enclosure is soo much larger and very thick.

mmm
I've been thinking the action on my strat has always been too high from the get-go (eventhough it had a proper setup from the vendor before purchase), but no amount of setup I try to do at home can get it lower than it is without fret buzzing any time I get past the 12th fret.
I'm going to take it into a local shop and see what they can do. Maybe trade it in if they have something nicer to my liking.
I really want a Fender Custom Shop stratocaster but phew they're pricey.

By reilo Go To PostmmmFound a local guitar tech just a 5min drive for me and he thinks getting my action right and improve the playability should be no problem. It's just regular maintenance basically with some neck adjustment and setup. Good news is my neck seems to be just fine. Not bad for < $100.

I love cheap guitars, I always feel less pressure when I’m messing around with them, I set up my Squier and I don’t know if I did it right or whatever but it feels good to play and barre chords are a breeze with an action that low.
I have a more expensive (but still budget branded) Epiphone Les Paul, it’s heavy and the neck is fat, it feels more premium but I think it’s harder to play.

Modern more affordable guitars all have a higher baseline of quality these days. Nothing wrong with them and if you want to get them closer to the more expensive stuff the pickups are always the biggest improvement you can make.
Got my stratocaster back from the luthier, and phew, what a difference it is now. The setup and action is just so much improved especially 12th fret and beyond.
Boy, those new Fender American Vintage II guitars are en fuego. I was browsing for a Fiesta Red Strat that I might be able to modify and put some early 60s style pickups into, and bam, they announce those. It seems like a really good compromise to get something American-made grade without spending double on a Custom Shop.
I might sell my Strat for one of those if I can find play one locally first.

I'm never playing another guitar again until I get it to my luthier first. need that fret leveled to get the action as low as possible.
By Mister Go To PostI'm never playing another guitar again until I get it to my luthier first. need that fret leveled to get the action as low as possible. It's been a week now and the playability difference is staggering. The guitar was setup before it was sent out but I guess over the years, humidity, and having it in storage for a few months while I moved must have messed it up. It's not the lowest action you can find on a guitar but its playable.
