Nope. Too much of a bitch and my confidence isn't there to do it.
But I highly encourage others to record themselves 😂😂

I recorded some bits for a "Name That Tune" round on a lockdown zoom quiz. Its terrible quality as I just done it on my phone. I even forgot to turn the wah pedal on for the first one. I also had to play really quietly as I have a baby (who started making fart noises during the last one) so you can often hear the strings over the amp.

you nailed the kids aren't alright, how long have you been playing?
Around 18 years
The songs were
Bob Marley - Stir it up
Queen - Crazy little thing called love
Offspring - The kids arent alright
Pixies - Where is my mind
David Gueta and Sia - Titanium
Iron Maiden - The trooper
Take That - Back for good
Daft Punk - Aerodynamic
Papa Roach - Last Resort
Diana Ross - I'm coming out (or The Notorious B.I.G. - Mo Money Mo Problems)

Oh damn I just realized that today is the first anniversary of my band's first LP, so might as well post it, I play lead on all tracks and rhythm on a few.
Super stoked on this, as Amplitube 4 is great but badly needed a redesign and some improvements. Already pre-ordered it.
Maybe next year I'll buy my first amp head, but we'll see.
Got my Scarlite the past month and have been using Bias FX as my virtual amp, has worked wonders even if I feel it can get a bit too crunchy and distorted sometimes. Scarlite has been a great purchase tho, even use it on Rocksmith
I gave Bias FX an honest shot but the quality of the amps and effects just wasn't there. The MacOS app was also buggy as hell and the UX very unintuitive and definitely suffered from aesthetics over usability (Amplitube suffers from usability but the quality of it is just too good). Something like Amplitube or S-Gear just crush it in that department.
Not to mention they integrate with something like Logic Pro much easier.
EDIT: Looks like Guitar Rig also got a major release recently. Looks nice.

you don't need the rocksmith cable if you connect your guitar through the audio interface and use the no cable patch, correct?

oh cool, was planning to buy an audio interface soon, would be useful for trying out rocksmith too
Amplitube 5 is out and I don't have time to play with it because of work. The UI/UX is such a huge upgrade. Hoping for some good quality improvements on the audio side as well.
Just wanted to thank you guys for the recommendations, I bought the Behinger UMC22 audio interface and it's blowing my mind
I can achieve almost any sound I want with my guitar with amp sims and vst plugins, this is so much fun

I'm glad I ran into this post I am looking to buy a baritone acoustic that I will probably never use haha. Maybe ill get something cheaper instead.
Learning bends has my fingertips feeling pain like they did when I first started out. I'm learning the solo from Smells Like Teen Spirit and I've mostly nailed it except for bending, which is not part of JustinGuitar's beginner lessons 7 months in but I consider it to be something important for the songs I want to play.
By reilo Go To PostThere's bends and then there's Gilmour bends
my dream is to one day attempt to play the comfortably numb solo in a few years
I think I am catching the pedal bug but thankfully haven't caught the amp bug (AmpliTube does a great job for me here).
Thus far:
Nobel ODR-mini (TubeScreamer alternative)
JHS Bender 1973 London (ToneBender Onomatopoeia Mk.3 Clone)
TC Electronic Ditto Looper XL
BOSS Noise Suppressor NS-2 (not sure I necessarily need this tbh)
MIDI Commander to control Amplitube within Logic Pro
And now, just ordered a MXR Sugar Drive, which is a Klon Centaur clone (a Klone, as the cool kids say).
Oh, and I built my own Telecaster out of parts as an addition to my Stratocaster. I fucked up the paint job but it actually makes it look vintage so it has character (is what I am telling myself), but overall it sounds and plays amazing.

By /bacon Go To PostVery disappointed you didn't pick up a real Klon Centaur tbfI'm well to-do but not $5,000 guitar pedal well to-do
Doesn't look bad, can see a knock to the left of the bridge but that's all.
I bet relicking it more could be a fun little side project in the future. How's the action on it? That's always been my concern with those kits on Amazon.
Maple neck > Rosewood btw

That looks good to my untrained eye
really digging those straps too, what are they?
adjusting the action should be pretty easy by lowering the strings on a bridge like that, no?

By /bacon Go To PostDoesn't look bad, can see a knock to the left of the bridge but that's all. It's good (lower than my strat by a smidge) but not as low as I would like. I could get it lower but I have a dead spot on the 7th fret High E eventhough there is no buzzing anywhere else if I get any lower 😭

I think with some refinements I could get lower but I'm a total noob at this and not a luthier. Long-term once I get a proper garage and space to do this I will attempt to rectify some of this stuff. Not sure if I'll repaint it, but I definitely did it under less-than-ideal conditions.
By Mister Go To PostThat looks good to my untrained eyeYeah but I imagined the tolerances on the frets aren't that great, at least compared to factory Fender and even Squire, leading to fret buzz on the higher frets. Then you'll have to mess with the truss rod and it end just ends up being a pain in the ass.

Then you'll have to mess with the truss rod and it end just ends up being a pain in the ass.Yea the tolerances are definitely better on the Fender. It's also their Performer line so it's Made-in-America, and I bought it from Sweetwater and they run it through a plek machine and inspection before shipping.
But, given the neck was a whopping $40, it's quite impressive that I had to do minimal amount of work on it to have it play well. Just some Tru-Oil, 3000-grit paper on the back of the neck, and sanding back the fret-ends not to be so harsh.
Oh, and totally agree maple > rosewood. The tele's body is also maple and the sustain it has over the strat is insane. I can keep a note ringing for minutes.

oh yeah, I experienced that with my Squier, fret buzz on the higher frets no matter how much I adjusted the truss rod and the bridge. ended up getting it as low as I could with the frets buzzing unplugged, but I can't hear the buzz from the amp so that's ok and expected apparently.
So I decided to treat myself and bought a new guitar, a massive upgrade over my first one
ESP LTD Eclipse 256
The humbuckers can be coil split to single coils by pulling the tone knob, makes it really versatile.
Feels very comfortable compared to my beginner Squier strat, the shorter scale and X Jumbo frets make me stretch my fingers a bit less and I can fret with a lighter touch. It came with an almost perfect setup with the strings super low with no fret buzz and proper intonation, so I didn't have to do much. I might replace the 10s strings with 9s though.

Is Tame Impala/Kevin Parker considered to be a top tier guitarist? Love the guitars in some of his songs
What about Mike Dean, his guitar solos are the highlights on a Ye or Travis album.

I don't recall Tame Impala's guitar sections standing out when I listened to them but I also can't say I listened to them a ton.
It's nice. I like it, has some decent complexities to it and a lovely underlying melody. Love the use of fuzz and the kind of teetering between that 60s vibe.
By sigh Go To PostIs there a tell to know when you're listening to someone really proficient at guitar?Probably not unless you already know a good bit about music structure, technique, interpretation, and expression and what it takes to reproduce that on a guitar. And then there are differences between studio performances and live performances.
The way studio recordings have been done over the last ~50 years means that it is possible, if time consuming, to make players sound far better than they are. Imagine making a recording as if you are saving and reloading save states in a video game.

This, to me, you can't fake. GCJ is wonderful live. The main riff is quite easy to get down but what's noticeable here is how he is truly playing lead and the one forcing the tempo and building to the climax. And once he's in his pocket it just culminates in some quality playmanship.
learned to play New Dawn Fades by Joy Division start to finish, still haven't nailed the somewhat tricky clean arpeggio part, but I'll get there. playing along with a song is one of the best feelings you can have.
gonna start learning Shadowplay next.
this guitar thing is pretty cool.

Learning to play on a metronome is important
Learning to play on beat with a low BPM (< 60) when you set it to 1 click per bar is a lot tougher lol. It becomes really important to keep the count in your head and train your internal rhythm.
Double points if you set your click to be on the 2 or 3 *sweating*
