By Punished* Go To PostThink Dr Britt Baker D.M.D's reign has got a bit stale. Riho and Statlander are much better wrestlers but I suppose neither do much on the mic which is Baker's strength (but even that, I don't know if she's done anything particularly entertaining lately)I want deeb to get it
Moxley returns after 3 months spent in rehab and drops a "fuck" into his promo without it being cut.
Also, he's in incredible shape. Looking at pictures of him back in October it's notable how unhealthy he looked in comparison.
Glad to see that he appears to be in a better headspace.

Mox looks great, really happy he sought help and seems to have found a better path.
Also, he has hair again!
I loved bald Mox though, me and my semi ginger beard.

Sammy v Cody ladder match was awesome. Early contender for non ppv MOTY.
I don't know what a Danhausen is but I'm intrigued and he has awesome shirts.

I don't think Cody has done much particularly interesting in the <1 year I've been watching AEW, but it would be more interesting if this was a work.
Cody was a great star "introducer/maker" all his matches with new or underused talent were great and really showed that AEW had a plan for these people.
Was everything he did great? Nah, he had some dumb decisions for sure but all in all I enjoyed what I saw.
But if this leads to a major plot twist in 6 months or so, I'd be hype.

I'd be surprised if Cody went back to WWE. The whole reason he left was because he felt he was overlooked and wasn't given a fair shot.
Being honest though, he just isn't a main event calibre wrestler. He's decent in the ring and talks well, but I don't think he was ever super popular with the fans, other than in his capacity as co-founder of AEW.

The reports surrounding Cody's exit from AEW really paints him in a bad light. Sounds like he vastly overestimated his popularity with the fans and ability to connect with them. He was asking for top guy money but didn't have top guy popularity. And that's entirely his own fault.
He kept trying to book himself as an old school babyface, but the way he presented himself was more like a heel. The fans hated it and booed him fiercely. The more boos he received the more he doubled down on being a babyface, but was oblivious to the fact that his character was coming across like a dickhead.
For months there was a fan held belief that Cody was gradually morphing his character into an over the top heel who fully believed that he was a good guy. What was actually happening was Cody desperately trying to be liked and utterly failing. He stopped being popular, stopped drawing fans and stopped being relevant to the company as a while outside of his role as a Vice President.
He genuinely worked himself into a shoot. I'm amazed that someone whose family is steeped in wrestling made that fatal mistake.

It sure sounds like that but I don't know, did he still have full creative power over himself or is it more TK not knowing what to do with him?
Everyone would've wanted him heel for sure and he did grow a little stale as a result of trying to be THE babyface.
I still respect and admire him for what he's done and I'm going to get suckered into watching Mania just for him now.

I figured Cody and Brandi were deliberately doing that to be a heel 😂
Don’t tell me he actually thought fans would enjoy that corny ass shit. What a fucking moron

By Lupercal Go To PostIt sure sounds like that but I don't know, did he still have full creative power over himself or is it more TK not knowing what to do with him?Reading between the lines, it appears there was some sort of falling out between Cody and Tony Khan. Meltzer reported that Cody had his booking power taken away a while ago. I think that's an acknowledgement that whatever Cody was trying to portray with his character wasn't working and he was only making it worse.

This is only one side of the story though and probably comes directly from Tony Khan himself. So who knows exactly what has actually happened. There are reports from months ago though, about higher ups in AEW being concerned about what it was Cody was actually doing with his character. So there is probably some truth to it.
I'm going to ignore the stories about people backstage hating Brandi Rhodes. That sounds like there's someone with an axe to grind.
I can see some disagreements with The Elite and with TK sure, but most of the rumours are just that.
AEW will move on but it is a loss, no matter how much people hated his character/promos/whatever , in the end a founding member and EVP left and went to the competition.
And if WWE is given Cody 5m a year, he can go for it. I'll watch some of his stuff until sooner or later, Vince or someone else in power loses interest.
Who knows, in 2-3 years if all goes well, he might show up for a last hoorah in AEW, NJPW, ... and then retire for good. If he's still serious about quitting at 40.
I do hope he loses the tattoo by then.

WWE had their Elimination Chamber PPV in Saudi Arabia.
Lesnar won the WWE title by eliminating every competitor in the match and also secured his Wrestlemania main event match with Roman. Another WWE masterclass in rerunning the same old shit every year.

Naito and Okada had their regulation banger for the IWGP title last weekend. They're just so good.
New Japan has stagnated a bit over the last few years, but their matches are always the best wrestling you'll see anywhere. Hopefully Okada as champ will reignite the company.

By data Go To PostNXT getting hornier and hornierFuture of the division right there whewwww
Dude is something else and he is so setting up Punk at the ppv to be merciful before he takes him to dick punch city.
I'd love for Cesaro to show up in NJPW to exhibit some strong style but I'll take him in AEW sure.
He's my bottom boy for sure, top dude.

The mishandling of Cesaro is one of the bigger fuckups WWE management has made in recent years. Has a great look, is fucking massive and wrestles to a high standard. The fans clearly liked him too. But he was never booked appropriately. Should've been a regular upper midcarder who challenges for world titles.
I thought last year was finally the start of a proper push for Cesaro. Had a feud with Rollins which culminated in a great Wrestlemania match which he won. Then he feuded with Reigns for the world title, had another great match but lost. That should have been enough to cement his place as a top guy. Instead he was shuffled back down the card.

rooting for Cesaro is what re-soured me on WWE
how many times do the fans have to tell you "we really like this guy" before you actually go w/ him, instead of kneecapping him yet again

That MJF promo is incredible. The best promos I've ever heard are both from Punk. The pipebomb and the one he made immediately after winning the ROH world title. MJFs is in the same stratosphere of greatness.
For context, he was a face and surprisingly won the title despite it being common knowledge he was moving to WWE. He got a mega pop on winning, but in the aftermath made a promo so good that the fans in attendance turned and hated him on the spot. That's masterful charisma and that's exactly what MJF showed as well. He's an Uber heel but had the fans incredibly sympathetic towards him by the end of his promo.
Also, Punk Vs MJF at the next PPV is a Dog Collar match. Punk faced Raven in the same type of match almost 20 years ago and it made Punks career. That entire feud put him on the map as an up and coming star on the indie scene. Wouldn't be surprised at all to see Punk putting MJF over in the same way Raven did for him.
Punk promo after winning the title for reference.

Tony Khans big announcement is that he now owns Ring of Honor and it's tape library. That's a lot of incredible content they now have, which will presumably be used in some sort of streaming service. 02-09 RoH is some of the best wrestling you'll ever see. The Danielson/McGuinness feud is one of the greatest ever.
I don't know what the status is of the wrestlers who were still in ROH, but I really want to see a Briscoes vs FTR match.

Meltzer and a few other reporters say Cody may not be going to WWE now. They think Vince wanted the headlines of him poaching one of AEWs founders and offered Rhodes a mega deal. But once it became public knowledge that he was leaving, McMahon reduced his offer.
If this is true, Cody is in a bad position.

Jade Cargill has the same aura as Roman Reigns in 2013. Back then you knew he was going to the top. Think it's the same with her.
Lasts night's PPV might be the best AEW has ever produced. Most matches were utter bangers.
CM Punk Vs MJF stole the show though. Every other match was high on workrate, but this one was a much slower, more brutal affair. Just pure violence which I loved every second of. He even came out to his old ROH there music, dressed in his old attire.
The story was building towards Punk digging deep to his old ways to win and made sense he'd go to the ROH throwback. Punk and MJF both looked incredible after the match. The former for winning,
and the latter for taking him to the limit. Wardlow comes out if that PPV a star too. One for winning the ladder match and two for finally turning on MJF.
Punk has been on fire since his return. He's a completely different wrestler to most on the roster. He's slower, more methodical and channelling a lot of Bret Hart and 70s/80s wrestlers into his matches.

Only seen Jericho/Kingston and the 3 way tag team so far. Had to laugh at Kingston dropping Jericho on his head 1 second into the match.
Damn, Revolution was great.
Some ridiculous bumps in some matches. Kingston v Jericho, loved it. MJF v Punk, amazing, match of the night. Tag Team Trios, great stuff.
The Bucks keep proving how good they are and damn Luchasaurus has a great hot tag. Stiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing doing it again at 62.
Baker v Rosa again ok but can we have a new champ? Baker is played out, needs some time off to refresh.
Jade v Conti, goddamn Jade's star keeps growing, hope her wrestling catches up. Conti needs to do more singles matches imo.
Adam v Adam was good, could've done without the interference but Dark Order getting a payday I don't mind.
5/5 ppv, didn't skip a minute.

I was at the Arthur Ashe show and when I saw her in person I thought that she would be someone to lock-in. She clearly had bug for it and every appearance since then she's knocked it out of the park. Signing the contract on Tay Conti's ass? come on, that's just great.
Damn, I see Jeff Hardy debuted aswell yesterday.
I hope that's the end of the AHFO for good. That faction was the worst.

By domino Go To PostWait so Paige been on this shit all this time and wasn’t signed?Pretty much. Lambert and everyone from American Top Team are appearing because they're friends with Tony Khan. I think PVZ would have been signed last month, but Brandi and Cody left so things got pushed back a month.
Goddamn, he can move all his fingers and such so that's good news but I think nobody will blame him if this is the end of his "active" wrestling career. He doesn't need to risk it all for 50/50 booking.
Man it’d be so sad if this is it. Get the belt, get actual crossover appearances like rap media shows and Fox football promos, then you get jobbed tf out and booked shit as the champ and now this
