So I'm usually pretty positive on the bevy of services that Amazon provides, and I was behind them 100% when they announced their drone based delivery service, but with this new service, I feel that Amazon has taken it a step too far.
Meet Amazon Key
An all new in-home delivery service that allows Amazon to enter your home in order to securely drop off your package.
I understand the benefits of such a service, I really do, but there's no way in seven hells that I'm giving Amazon unfettered access to my home. They already have too much data on me as it is. They don't need to know what lies beyond the veil of my front door. We're not that close.
What do you guys think? Are you ok with Amazon's new creep service?

I suppose that would be true for someone who shops exclusively with Amazon, but even still, there's more to a person's home than the quantity of their furnishings!
Yeah, this is creepy AF. Five years ago this would be an SNL parody ad for the evil big brother Amazon.
What are the conditions of an employee stealing something. How does their policies ensure something like that won't happen?
Pretty cool. I wouldn't us it, but good for those who would. Always nice to have options, even if you're not interested..

I know there are devices that allow you to see who you is at your door and then unlock it from your phone. I would feel a lot more comfortable with that than an Amazon product that they have access to.
This legit looks like something that would be an SNL sketch or an April Fools thing. Unreal. No way would I use something like this.
I think it's cool but no way would I use it. Not like there is anything valuable in my house except my tea...
I want to know how this works!
I presume both the deadbolt and the delivery person require an internet connection. Which is putting a lot of faith in Amazon security.

man i dont give a shit if someone takes my amazon package from my front door. aint no way im allowing amazon into my house.
Our dog walker has keys to our house. Of course I'd considered what the risk was but he's flown right by us. This is quite different though.
I want to see how those meetings went, like who would have thought this would be a great idea.
People spent time and were paid to think of this idea lol.

Friend of mine pointed out there’s no furniture in that ladies house.
So what does that tell you about this “service”?

I laughed at the "thouroughly vetted" delivery employees. You mean the ones with semi-clean records that are willing to use their own car and get paid minimum wage? Those ones? The ones that there are always complaints about (Look up reviews about AMZL and other local crappy courier companies the hire)? Yeah I don't think I want them just waltzing into my house.

No way she opened that Amazon box in time before her parents made it to the door, lol. And yeah, seems ripe for abuse, so no thanks. I have a home with a semi private entryway anyways, so delivery people just throw packages down the corridor out of sight. That cleaning service tho, I didn't know Amazon was offering that now, nice!
In the future all furniture and shit in your house will be holograms so there won't be shit to steal anyway
Idk, I could see its uses. But those uses could be solved by just having them leave it at the post office too.

That's another one I'm gonna have to give a hard pass to.
By Xpike Go To PostI want to know how many executives heard of this idea and went "People will love it!"
Undoubtedly thought up by people living in massive houses with private staff or serviced apartments.
Maybe I'm just being cynical though.
So, the catch is that you need a compatible smart lock (tbh the entire concept of an Internet connected lock gives me the shivers, but that's another topic) and the Amazon Cloud Camera. In theory, Amazon uses the camera to send you footage of the drop off so everything's above board. In practice, I'm really not sure that's enough to prevent shenanigans.
Is this just a USA thing? because there's no way in hell i'm letting some delivery guy enter my house without my permission lol.
That commercial struck me as way too long. Like I got the point after a minute and then they kept going on and on.
I've placed a million orders on Amazon and this one time they called my phone and made me come to the door. When i asked if this was a new policy, the guy said yes.. but it has never happened again- it's been like a year. I thought that was weird but this is even more weird.
Yeah no.
Maybe when everyone is stocked to the gills with identification chips inside every orifice and big brother is bigger than ever.

This isn't a thing, period. It won't be a thing. Anyone who keeps their doors locked while they're gone is going to pass on this. Surprisingly though, there are some people who leave their door unlocked while they're gone 0____0

Granted, she lived in the middle of nowhere in upstate New York, but man, what a time.

Hahahaha, your grandma was a badass, lol. No way in hell I'd do that, even in the middle of nowhere!

Don't worry, most of us don't even understand how this made it above the cutting room floor.
What about people's houses that have alarms set for when a door is opened? Are you expected to give your alarm code to Amazon as well? Jeez, anytime I have a package delivered and I'm not home, generally one of the neighbors on my road will take the package in for me and give me it when they see me. And generally the postman leaves me a note too.
Maybe that just happens where I live though...

I will be interested in seeing numbers. It could be interesting data to measure how much people trust each other.

I await the mass amount of horror stories about people stealing from homes. I also await the SNL skit on this.

It's available in the Sacramento area, but wouldn't work with my house. I have a cat and a security system. Can't risk the cat getting freaked by the AMZ delivery man dropping something and fleeing the house. And they won't get a spare security code from me to integrate into this Amazon system.
Edit:
Those workers haven't let me down when delivering my packages. Although, one night I was pulling out of my driveway and the delivery lady handed me my item through my window. Check asked me if I was the person getting the delivery and I said yes. That doesn't guarantee that I'm who I said I was and could have been someone else.
