Animal Crossing: Pocket Life, the official title of Nintendo’s Animal Crossing game for smartphones, will launch for iOS and Android in late November, the company announced. Pre-registration is available now at the official website.
About the game:
Help Animals As You Explore!
While visiting different recreational spots, you’ll meet new animals who could use a little help. They’ll be looking for fish, fruit, bugs, and other things to get their camping adventures started—and when you help them out, you’ll earn Bells and craft materials in return!
Craft Furniture and Amenities
The craft materials you earn by fulfilling animals’ requests can be used to craft all sorts of furniture and amenities for your campsite.
Your Campsite. Your Way.
The joy of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp is creating a space that suits you and your style.
Your campsite can be anything you like—from a traditional space that celebrates nature to a flashy fun house with concerts and rides. It’s all up to you!
You can also customize your camper, visit your friends’ campsites to get ideas for your own, and meet new animal friends as you explore recreational areas!
Host Animals at Your Campsite
As you grow your friendships with different animals, they’ll want to visit your campsite. Craft and decorate with their favorite items, and you’ll be able to host them whenever you like—even if you change up your decorations complete!

I'm in, I just hope it's not too aggressive with the IAPs. BTW I remember Nintendo saying that even though FE made way more money than Super Mario Run, they still liked the SMR model better. I believe them, but I guess it's hard to pass this chance of making bank with AC, lol.
I'm so ready to dive in, but I have a question. Is there real time online multiplayer, or can you only visit what's essentially a replica of your friends' camp sites? I'd really like it if I could fish and forage with friends.

BHFF (Best Human Friends Forever): Not all of your friends in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp will have fur or feathers. You can send your in-game Player ID to real-life friends who also own the game to have them visit your campsite. Random player avatars will also visit the campsite from time to time. Once someone visits, you can exchange your Bells for items saved in the Market Box.
I'm surprised by how comprehensive this mobile game is. It seems like a legit, fully featured AC spin-off game. Pretty impressed so far.

Honestly, this just seems like a more robust version of Miitomo with an Animal Crossing skin. Disappointed.
Looks cool but we'll have to see how extreme the IAP are imo. Will keep an eye on it, as a casual Animal Crossing fan.
So there are very long wait times for moving between areas, not just building stuff. It looks like there are cooldowns for basically everything. https://www.reddit.com/r/AnimalCrossing/comments/78l1xj/mega_thread_animal_crossing_pocket_camp/doupkat/
That's a huge bummer. Looks like they are pushing those microtransactions harder than I thought.

Interest fading sharply...
So there is an apk floating around that lets you play on the Australian servers. I made a character but I really don't want to get to deep before having to start over.
Have to say this game looks amazing. They nailed the aesthetic of the game. Those microtransactions sound pretty bad, but haven't gotten that far. If it's just walking around and designing your home I will be super okay with this game.
EDIT: you have to pay 10usd for Tom Nook or K.K. to stay at your camp. That's pretty crazy expensive, but I really hope there aren't any 'energy' microtransactions on this game.

I would have likely bought this day 1 if it was a premium game (if Nintendo re-thought their always-online system from Super Mario Run, anyway), but I very rarely play F2P games for long, if it all, and from what I've read this doesn't seem like it'll be an exception:

72 hour wait times? No thanks.
By ArsTechnica Go To PostIn good news, this "freemium" game does not let you pay real cash to speed up the payment of this primary Bells-loan gimmick. However, Nintendo appears prepared to shove in-app purchases in your face in the form of "tickets," which can be used to acquire specific types of Pocket Camp items and… speed up in-game timers. (Yes, Nintendo has continued the Farmville-styled streak started in Fire Emblem Heroes by letting players spend currency to speed up whopping 72-hour timers.)

meh... 72 hours mean shit for folks who have played AC before. For me, I love the sense of accomplishment waiting to finish public works in my town. And besides, there are other things you could do while waiting for the construction to finish e.g. collecting things, etc.
Supposedly an apk for Android if anyone wants to try it. Only for Australia so may need a VPN to activate.

I don't mind the timers at all. I know I do play games differently than a lot of people, but I have no issue with checking in for a few minutes a couple times a day. It's a nice little filler when I have downtime as I go about my day, and I have no personal desire to play "optimally" (eg, check in EVERY three hours) like other people do.

I don't have an issue with timers, I have an issue that they seem to accompany every activity. For example: It takes at least 3 hours to go to the fruit farm, and when you get there you can only shake 3 trees in 3 hours. That is way over the top.
Short clip of the intro. Nice game so far, you click on things to go and interact with them.

Wait, when I created my character I could only choose hair style, hair color and eyes. Where was I supposed to be able to choose between skin colors? Can I change it if I already created my character?
I also wonder if I will be able to change my country later on without a Nintendo account, as I chose Australia this time? Or if I will have to start all over, and if so, I will have be able to choose the name I already chose for this character?

Thanks for telling me this. Interest restored!
This game is dangerous just like it's handheld predecessors. Now I've got Mario, Destiny 2 and still to finish Zelda plus this to juggle. God damn weeds gonna be growing.
Game is a ton of fun right now, but I'm worried about longevity. Without knowing how much there is, I feel like I'm burning through content pretty quickly. I hope they've got enough long term content ready/planned to sustain a playerbase.

I think they'll probably rely a lot on holiday and seasonal events and items which kind of works well for the Animal Crossing model.
