By TheMikado Go To PostIs it 15000 or 1500, because just a few pages ago I thought I read the main discord had over 1000 users.
It's definitely not only 1500. Steam-GAF has 600 alone that they've verified for the first wave.
By Kibner Go To PostI just assume any information that I enter into a site can be read by someone that has both the ability and the interest to get it. Yeah, data can be encrypted. But there is a way to decrypt it somehow otherwise it wouldn't be very useable, ya know? There have been always plugins. Or via the database. Those plugins just make it alot easier.

By rjinaz10 Go To PostYeah basically everything was readable, pms and even emails associated with the website, when I was running a website in the past. Passwords were the only thing hidden, not that I ever tried to get around that or anything.
whelp i'll post in here if get banned on gaf for pming knuckle haha. but that sounds like just pouring more fuel on the flames of discontent if they want people to stay.
By thefro Go To PostIt's definitely not only 1500. Steam-GAF has 600 alone that they've verified for the first wave. It's well north of 10,000 members queued up. I've seen the list of Discord groups; some have a few dozen members, others hundreds.
I'm interested to see what ResetEra's site actually looks like. Hopefully its more like GAF than this place.
By AngryMoth Go To Post15k is crazy, would have guessed like 1 or 2k users to begin with. Encouraging, must be a pretty big slice of the active user base considering how many of the 195k accounts were probably banned or abandonedYeah I'd say gaf probably on average only had maybe 20k active users at a time to begin with. The rest were either lurkers or just banned or gone.

This isn't gaf, but it has its own charm. I get people like what they are used to, can't say I don't feel the same a lot of times.

I think what i'm getting at is that it sounds like the same users are getting counted multiple times to get to that number. i.e. they are part of multiple discords. I would imagine most of the users in the main are in at least one other discord and vice versa if not multiple ones. Adding up the number of members in each discord wouldn't make sense even for estimation purposes.

Yup, I was verified by both the DestinyGAF and PoliGAF discords. I messaged the DestinyGAF rep and asked to get taken off so I don't receive two invites, but he never responded so I think I'm still double counted. I'm sure many are in the same boat.

Indeed, SLAENT is something entirely different, better in a lot ways. Let GAF be be GAF and RESET be RESET.

Dev team did not expect to shelter several thousand new users overnight.
Understand that this was primarily built for two communities of about 500 users total, who were here for either basketball or futbol.
Ideas to better accommodate a larger, more interest diverse userbase are being kicked around.

I know for me, I'm not in the main Discord, just one of the communities. And we managed to pretty much get everyone - although we were one of the smaller and more insular ones. We have about 90 in our Discord.

Thanks again to the mods here, btw. This is a pretty weird position for you guys to be in, and I appreciate you doing what you can to help us out instead of just turning us away.

I agree many probably are. Who knows what the actual count is, but tallying up the total number of members in each discord would be one of the worse ways to do this, its just bad statistics 101.

Adding up the number of members in each discord wouldn't make sense even for estimation purposes.I didn't consider that, but yes, that's obviously true. Still, we're talking thousands of accounts. I'm in one Discord group with about fifty others and I don't think more than a handful are in multiple groups right now. There's one rep that is in contact with the main Reset group (which is at 2k I believe) and he's keeping everyone up to date with the progress.

We have about 90 in our Discord.Yeah I mean its obviously not a big deal at all, I just thought the 15K number was weird because I remembered the smaller 2500 number just a few hours ago for the main discord. Given the way its setup I would expect that number would actually be below 5K to account for multiples and duplicates.
tbh I'm thinking of staying. It's been exciting to find a community of sport-heads with gaming interests. Its really hard to find anywhere and had Neogaf not imploded I would have never discovered SLAENT. There seems to be a legit POC userbase here I was never able to find on GAF.
And to be fair, the current state of the GAF communities at least on off-topic are damning. It's basically a ghost town and for the ones with some activity, many of the posts are about getting into the Discords. I think that says a lot of how many people chose to peace out. Don't know about the gaming ones, though.
By JershJopstin Go To PostHe wasn't attacking the site so much as observing the current state of things.Yeah, I'm not trying to put down Slaent. I shouldn't have used it as a comparison. I'm grateful that they've been very nice through this whole situation.

By AntiMacro Go To PostI feel like I'm missing out because I don't care about Discord at all.
I'm in the same boat. gaf member, not banned (same username). found out about slaent after this entire mess and i like it already so i'm looking to stay active here and hopefully on reset but i don't know how to go about getting in and i really don't care for discord
I've seen multiple people here, and on Twitter claiming that Slaent's UI or layout is confusing or complaining about cover images (which can be hidden). I don't understand it. It's always felt like any other message boards to me only with a more modern appearance with media applications. Threads appear in the order in which they've been commented in. Like, how is it that hard to grasp?
I wasn't a gaf member because I could never get my account approved, so hopefully I'll be gladly joining ResetEra in 2027 :)
By reilo Go To PostWhat do you mean? Not sure what his complaints are, but for me personally I'd like to see some sort of subscription feature. Even though I would have notifications off for most threads I followed, it was an easy way to bookmark ones I'd like to go back to if they weren't updated frequently (like PSVR, SNES mini hacking thread, etc.)
Great site otherwise! Even if I move to ResetERA for gaming I think I'll stick around for some of the non-gaming threads

Like, how is it that hard to grasp?I think the main difference is that, unlike most forums (or most subreddits) posts aren't separed by color. For example, in GAF, the posts (in the light theme) are white, grey, white, grey, etc. which is easier for the eyes to discern between posts.
By munchie64 Go To PostSorry, won't be able to help. When I got in PM people you knew from the communities was the best option, but that might not be true anymore.
Yeah, I figured as much. GiganticGAF doesn't even have its own Discord--I don't believe anyone ever made one. And it looks like the HaloGAF Discord is no longer sending out invites. Double bummer for me.

Like, how is it that hard to grasp?I don't get it either. I mean some features aren't here yet, but the UI is nice. Maybe I'll make a tutorial when I get home. I don't think people know about the hamburger menu on mobile. People have had a hard time finding PMs as well.
I've heard complaints of wasted space, but haven't used site on desktop since I've been out of country. Maybe they have a point there, but I dunno. Mobile is beautiful
I’m pretty grateful that there is a place for folks that don’t want to stick around on gaf right now. I don’t mind the layouts here, really. Just going to take getting used to, like everything else revolving around this situation.
By Noahpol Go To PostI am curious to see how resetERA will be during E3 2018.Down lol
I just think the difference here is it seems more mobile oriented first. Which is perfectly fine and logical given how so many people access the internet now. On desktop, just takes some getting used to. It's really a great layout and really slick.
I've only used the mobile site and I think it's brilliant. Can't comment on the desktop site, I don't really use a PC anymore.
SLAENT is the real shit. Really reminds me of the tiny Neo Geo forum I used to visit almost exclusively in the early 2000s. With a few minor to moderate UI/UX tweaks (a few I know are already being worked on), this site will only get better.
I'm just hoping ResetERA is able to channel that near-instant feeling with game news/updates.

By TurokTTZ Go To Postif I had a request for Slaent. it be an improved text editor when making replies/posts/edits..I’m sorry but wat
By reilo Go To PostWhat do you mean? The thing that I like about GAF's design is that I can see a lot of thread titles at once, without having to do a lot of scrolling. Here, the titles are larger and I can only see about half as many per screen. Its a seemingly small issue, but if this place were as large and fast-moving as GAF (was), you would have to spend much more time navigating to find specific threads.

Except there's no easy way (that I've found anyway) to refresh threads on mobile here. That's probably my main/only complaint.
