I'm terribly confused.

Also, last I heard GAF was blocking all kinds of stuff in PMs. I'd assume any GAF PMs are about as private as a freeway billboard for the time being.

again, we're not trying to replace gaf but we're more than willing to accommodate people here at slaent - those who are a community in transit, and those who want to set up shop here. its all good, circumstances for all of this are crazy. many have made requests (small and signifcant) to the format of this site and we're absolutely cool with making arrangements as well

however

we're trying to direct people to any particular site. wherever people want to go and rebuild, they're free to do so.

To further add that we would rather direct you to stay here, but if moving on is the plans we were glad to have you for a bit

I imagine that it must be rather difficult to ferry hundreds of users or more from one forum to another, without having access to the database, while the old forum staff is actively working against it and lots of hawks are waiting for an opportunity to strike whenever they make a mistake (their discord got locked after it was infiltrated, one admin was already doxxed)

This is all so confusing. I still have my neogaf account and I would like to be a part of ResetEra but I've never really dabbled with Discord communities...

I mean for some people who didn't manage to get into a discord group before or after this past weekend who still want to keep their ties with those in the community who managed to get on a lifeboat I can understand the rush to get verified some how via here. As I follow this thread though the past hour shows that it's still a real mess, especially when we're not given a window of time when things will go down other than "tomorrow" which is cause people to hastily put a plan together.

I'm by no means in a position to control anything but I think it'd be better if vetting over here was done at a later date so those who want to follow, such as myself still to a degree, can form a plan. Especially since so many members here suicided without a discord to fall back on and can't access the simple method of pms.

So back on page 16 Forever said that we need a representative who can vouch for interested members:

That individual will be responsible for compiling a list of interested members here they can absolutely trust; either you know them or at the very least can verify their GAF identities. All these people will just have to hang around and be prepared to get the call tomorrow. I'll be back tomorrow to give the community rep an invitation to distribute to their list via PM; this invite will only be good for a very short period of time.

I'm not personally acquainted with many people on here (of the names I've recognized over the past couple days, I've interacted with Trey and EarthBound64 in the past, but I don't know if they remember me), but I'm willing and able to provide a couple different forms of documentation demonstrating that I've been a GAF member and contributor to OT for ~5 years rather than a shitposter/troll trying to infiltrate. I can also just reply to PMs on GAF since my attempted account suicide thread didn't result in me being banned, but I don't know how much merit (if any) there is to the rumors about PMs being monitored or tampered with.

I'm honestly not clear whether this level of OPSEC is required; John Rabbit seems to imply that it's not, unless I'm misreading him. None of the documentation I have includes anything especially sensitive to my life IRL, but for the reasons DY_nasty mentions I don't want to be too careless with it either.

Agreed. We should all just cool down and wait for the inevitable open registration. There is no point in being this impatient.

It is not like SL&ENT is a terrible place. I am honestly thinking of making this my permanent forum.

as a general advice, don't kill your GAF accounts just yet. If you know some other users, pm them and ask if they are part of one of the discord groups and can get you in, check the community threads you participated in (some have hidden links in the posts there). Or wait for Forever to come back and figure something out. I assume it's in ERA's best interest to bring over the gaffers who want to join

Hey guys, I'd like to join ResetEra as well, been on GAF since 2005 - same name, changed my avatar for here though (used to have one of Bill Murray holding a bicycle). Haven't suicided my GAF account yet so easy to prove.
Though, I really like this place so gonna stick around here as well.

By Eorl Go To PostHonestly it sounds like a great idea in theory to salvage what community hasn't come here with an admin and moderator team that seems good on first glance, however it also sounds like it'll just be retreading the issues GAF had with moderation and limitation of users. Obviously EvilLore was a big part of the fuck up but I do believe over correcting and making users feel like they are in some exclusive club will not help, and discussion will not be allowed to actually take place unless you agree with the majority.

That's not to say hate speech and just general shit should be allowed, that should be removed and discouraged to create a proper discussion. My problem is that from the very start of this rebirth it almost feels like they just want to ignore providing a great community through discussion of opinions and facts from both sides of an argument with labelling someone because their opinion isn't yours. But we shall see I guess.

I think the mod system needs to be rejigged.
Transparency and accountability are key. A wise man once said, " nearly all men/women can withstand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power.

And also whilst, the exclusivity gave gaf alot of its character and power. That power turned a look people into smug elitist doo doo heads. I hope the reset guys and gals avoid that.

Technically, no, we can't prove you aren't just giving someone else's Discord info, but then neither can ANY of the communities that verified this way yesterday. This is the best we can do, and the ResetEra staff is aware of that.
-Even then, if Forever decides this way isn't up to snuff, then they don't have to use this list. Plain and simple.
-Above all, remember, this is just to get invited before the site is accepting public registration. You don't have to catch some exclusive train just to get on the site.
