Jazz-hop & Chill-hop |OT| R.I.P. Nujabes
from Petestrumentals to Samurai Champloo's fantastic OT, i've been about this life for a minute
Nujabes, Fat Jon, Uyama Hiroto, Emancipator, LJones/Cult Classic Records, DJ Okawari, Five Deez, Dr. Who Dat!, Kenichiro Nishihara, Jenova 7, Thallus, Funky DL, Onra, Pase Rock, Kondor, Nomak, Oddisee, literally anyone out of Hydeout productions & tons of classic bandcamp pages i'm forgetting or outright sleeping on...i love this sound.
some people think it's perfect to write/do homework/sleep to. i meditate to it, vibe to it, sometimes run or train to it. it just goes, and i'm so grateful i found artists putting it out there into the ether, happy to share anywhere i can. i'll have more links soon!

Yes! I'm so glad this thread lives on. I'll post some stuff tomorrow. Also use embed for youtube so folks can listen to the music right in this thread. The () icon near your profile pic on your posts.
done & done! thanks man, wish they didn't post so huge though, haha...ill be more sparing going forward, those are a few of my favorites so far though
Bro, like...you have no idea how awesome this makes me feel. Like really lol. Nujabes was awesome, like after watching Samurai Champloo when I was a teenager I got hooked. "Flowers" is still one of my favorite tracks of his.
By Quzar Go To PostHow do you guys feel about vocals?
Honestly I like'em. Flying Lotus used them a lot in You're Dead! That album's blend of fusion and electronic was great. "Siren Song" does something to my soul when I hear it.

World's End Rhapsody is my favorite song he's ever put out.

Same here, fuckin love Peaceland too
Nice, been listening to chill hop stations on & off for a little while now. This one always puts me in the mood for a good, long nap:
By Quzar Go To PostHow do you guys feel about vocals?'ey that's an amazing use of that sample (Moments in Love by Art of Noise).
**edit** - Damn Friendzone is AMAZE. Unfortunate none of their stuff seems to be on Spotify though.
Also in recent months I've gotten into artists like Ninjoi, emune, and Stlndrms who seem to get cateogirzed as "lo-fi"? Is that basically the same thing?
aw man, y'all are posting quality stuff here
and I'm good with vocals sometimes, you can't love nuja without hearing a lot of Substantial, Five Deez, etc
what? hype!

By joefu Go To PostYessssss. Love that this is here. Marcus D recently said Retro'd 2 is done so waiting on that.

I caught your post of Chillhop Music yesterday in the music thread. Been listening to the 24/7 live station for about 24 hours straight now. Great for work and studying.
Here's some stuff that gets regular rotation with me:
I definitely go for the jazzier side of the spectrum on this, and almost never vocals (but I don't mind them).

Nice! Always love me some Nujabes & Uyama Hiroto! Definitely will have to check out some of the names I don't recognize tonight.

Yeah, found out about them a while back. They really changed their style up as they progressed so I don't listen to them too much now. I tend to stay away from labels tbh, seems like hip hop is becoming similar to metal in that there are a 100+ different genres now because stuff sounds slightly different.
I'd consider something like this similar enough to Friendzone.
For people that don't mind lyrics. Really not sure if this would be Jazz-hop or R&B tbh.
This was one of my favorite threads. Thanks for making it again, IrishNinja!
I was always a fan of Joseph Jacobs stuff, and this one always manages to brighten my day when I'm feeling down.

Just migrated from a different forum when everyone went crazy because of the owner's scandal.
I'm really happy to see a thread here about Jazz hop/ Chill hop. I'm a fan of the genre and a producer myself.
Here's one of my favorite produce:

And here's a work in progress. I tried guitar strumming in the software I'm using for the first time: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4LZQDUQW87eNElDUXBQc3JMdVk/view?usp=sharing.
Any criticism is appreciated!

I dig it! Keep it up dude
Pretty sure I've posted this in the hip-hop thread, but it's such a dope song and video as well
I use to listen to RJD2 all the time back when I was in high school. "Since We Last Spoke" was a great album.
I was walking around Tokyo on vacation all day listening to Nujabes and then went out with a couple of people from my hostel to some bar nearby and they were playing Modal Soul in the bar. Made my trip lol.
Definitely need more of this type of music in my collection.

Nujabes made Samurai Champloo what it was. A good anime is elevated to legendary status.
Rest in Peace Nujabes

Yo, I was linked to this via some other thread and I started up a radio station based around Nujabes and I have to say that this is real real good and still easy to do work while listening to.
