How does the MLS Playoff system work?
PLAYOFF FORMAT:
The top six teams in each conference will qualify for the playoffs and be seeded 1-6 in their respective conferences.
The No. 3 and No. 4 seeds in each conference will host the No. 6 and No. 5 seeds in a single-elimination knockout game. The No. 1 and No. 2 seeds will get a bye to the Conference Semifinals. The lower-seeded winners of each knockout game will face the No. 1 seed in their respective conferences. The higher-seeded winners from the knockout games will face the No. 2 seed in the conferences.
The four Conference Semifinals will be decided by a two-game aggregate series, with the lower seed hosting the 1st leg and the higher seed hosting the 2nd leg.
If the aggregate score is tied after 180 minutes of play, the away goals tiebreaker rule will apply so as to be consistent with CONCACAF and FIFA practice.
If the series remains tied, two 15-minute extra time periods will be played in their entirety, followed by penalty kicks, if necessary.
The away goals tiebreaker will not apply to extra time in the 2nd leg of any two-legged playoff series.
The two Conference Championships will be decided by a two-game aggregate series, with the lower seed hosting the first leg and the higher seed hosting the second leg.
The same tiebreakers will apply in the Conference Championships as in the Conference Semifinals.
MLS Cup will be a single championship match hosted by the finalist with the most regular season points. If the two finalists have the same number of regular season points, the tiebreakers for MLS Cup Playoff qualification will be applied to determine the host team.
If the score is tied after 90 minutes of play, two 15-minute extra time periods will be played in their entirety, followed by kicks from the penalty mark, if necessary.
Adopt a MLS Team
You may ask yourself “But eseqko, MLS sucks. Why would I care what goes on in the MLS?” Well to that I say why should I care what goes on in Ligue 1 in France or Primeira Liga in Portugal? Yet, those who love football are still exposed to the going ons of those leagues because why not? Heck, Look at my avatar, I’m a Mexican soccer fan, but when I first stepped foot at Avaya Stadium, I’ll be damned if that wasn’t one of the best soccer experiences I’ve ever had. Pretty sure the beer had a great deal to do with it. Alas, all the other murican sport have an OT, so let’s give the domestic soccer playoff a shot.
Whipped this up on mobile and please forgive if it’s not the best looking thread, Recent GAF transplant, never really posted on their soccer threads, but I like this place and the fact that sports has sure a strong focus.

By BubbaKrumpz Go To PostLes go Earthquakes 😎 we barely made it in but we out here
I thought the season was done especially since the midfield was just giving the ball away. Friggin Wondo with that pass when everyone expected him to shoot... brilliant.
By timmbp Go To PostGo Revs! We got this.
we just need new blood everywhere
By Realeza Go To PostI hope Vancouver beats the Quakes so we can have a PNW match-up. Go Sounders!Ban this man.

By recon_zero Go To Postwhen are the matches?
Knockout rounds are today. Semifinals start Sunday.
By CostcoCousteau Go To PostLet's go Crew. Seriously, let's go. Austin is waiting.why you say this
do you like hurting people
:(
FUCK PRECOURT
By CostcoCousteau Go To PostCrew don't have enough fan support. It isn't the owners fault. The owner hasn't done anything to change that. The stadium isn't great and he fucked up the tv deal so no one could watch them. The team never markets themselves so not sure what they do for outreach. I know they give a lot of tickets to corporations which hand them out for free but that's not a great way to build a fanbase.
Austin and Columbus are pretty much the same city except Austin is growing a little faster so hitting the reset button to rebuild excitement is the only thing he gains by moving the team imo
So, MLS guys, educate me. I wanna watch the Vancouver match because of Montero. Am I "betting on the wrong horse"? What are Vancouver chances against the Earthquakes?
Toronto FC fan saying hi.
All 4 of our major teams are pretty good all at once. This is a strange feeling for me.

Vancouver is favored since the Quakes pretty much stumbled into the playoffs and the Whitecaps are playing at home. As a Quakes fan, we have some great forwards who in my opinion could be doing better. We changed coaches earlier this season and have seen improvements, sadly I don’t think it’ll be enough to go to far.
Still rooting for the upset though!
By eseqko Go To PostLooks like Toronto vs New York is set. What a beating.it'd be tough to fix this, yeah
By LFMartins86 Go To PostWhitecaps destroying Earthquakes.Yeah, total domination this Half.
By Xpike Go To Postbig man waston again.
Man, if San José had no plans to attack at least they should have practiced defending for this match.
I'm at work so I'm missing the crew match but it sounds like MLS fucked us over

It’s sounding like Austin is set.
As a supporter of the Mexican National Team, leaving Columbus without a major soccer team is the biggest mistake for the USMNT. Excited fan base, home field advantage like no other stadium in the MLS, The weather in the Winter... greed is gonna kill US Soccer if things don’t get fixed soon.
COLUMBUS! Only could watch the last 40 minutes but even that was incredible for a 0-0 match.
Definitely going to try and make it to the next match.

By eseqko Go To PostIt’s sounding like Austin is set.I meant specifically in the match with the offside call, but yes, MLS is shooting itself in the foot with this.

By CruzAzul Go To PostWhere is the Liga MX thread on this site?Personally, it could be something I could work on, yet, it's hard enough to maintain a thread with updated scores when few to no people are participating
