Runner was on 2nd due to strike 2 being called ball 4. That was a strike all night long until that pitch.
Well that was completely insane. This series deserves to go 7 just for the imsanity. Its gonna be tough going up against Verlander though.
We're screwed. Both this and game 2 came down to poor bullpen management. Bringing Morrow out was the turning point.
i had that on while playing games, was the most baseball ive ever watched i think and it was decently entertaining. Have to root against the LA team of course.

Yeah, for a team that has been touted for having a good bullpen, Roberts sure knows how to fuck it up.
I feel absolutely numb. I said it before and I will say it again, the series felt over in Game 2 when we let them come back after going up 3-1 on Verlander. If someone told me that Keuchel would be pulled before the 4th and Kershaw would have a 4-0 lead in Game 5, I would think he would be able to protect most of it.
This was THE biggest game of his career and he he pulled a 2011 Fourth Quarter Finals LeBron. He shit the bed on the biggest stage in the world. Bellinger was clutch when needed. Hell, so was Joc.
Kershaw was the fucking clown, painting his face.

Felt like the ump just wanted to end the game (it was late) and let the rest of the series sort it self out.
This slicker ball for the World Series reeks of something screwy. Both teams got to this point under circumstances that were changed all of a sudden. Why? Why change a variable on these teams at this point? Does it actually impact the teams equally?

One thing is for sure, it's ruined the Dodgers bullpen. Our biggest advantage was taken away.

Feel so empty.. Only real hope that I have wth a bullpen that's ripped to shreds + facing a well rested Verlander, is that nothing has made sense this series. Just gotta survive game 6 somehow.
Still can't get over two instances in the game where Roberts messed up. He's been quick to yank his starters the third time through lineup so it's baffling he didn't do it for Kershaw after he issued the first walk in the 5th. Like I understand trusting your ace, but after the previous inning and other postseason starts, he should have been pulled even before Bregman came up.
The second was playing Morrow. I'm all for analytics-style managing, but damn, you can't expect him to play at his best when he's freaking exhausted.
Blah, we're toast.

I just can't believe how much that ball has impacted pitching. Taking off over half an inch on sliders and cutters is crazy! Verlander may be very hittable again tomorrow, but so will Rich Hill. Problem is, Hill doesn't have the ability to rely on power like Verlander can.
And imagine the impact if it went the other way. If a grippier ball was in play and it only increased the pitching. That way the advantage the Dodgers had coming in would have been increased. That lock down bullpen would look like, well, like they have ALL THE WAY UP TO WHEN THEY CHANGED THE BALL.
Isn't Rich Hill more of a curve ball pitcher though? Not sure how the slicker ball affects that since you grip the seam. Who knows.
Crazy theory: what if the ump was more forgiving with the strike zone last night because of the complaints about the slicker ball?

True about Hill. That might actually help him out. There's still the crap shoot of a bullpen situation on both sides though. The games have been reduced to a coin flip, it seems.
By Jeff-DSA Go To PostThe games have been reduced to a coin flip, it seems. And this annoys me to no end. Our shutdown closer is compromised because of a shitty ball choice by the league.
It should have tipped people off when Keuchel and Kershaw are getting beat up but Alex Wood and Morton are the ones with near no hitters!?!
Ugh.
Oh god
You guys have simply made more dumb mistakes than the Astros, and the Astros, Bregman in particular have made amazing defensive plays. Your manager sends out a guy who has pitched THREE days in a row, and has worn the bullpen down to a ridiculous level. And that's just the tip. The ball has nothing to do with decisions or bad choices made by players during the game. Both teams are hitting extremely well, so that doesn't fly either.
Naw
Y'all don't get to try and preemptively put a * on this if LA loses the series.

By Smokey Go To PostOh godWe got the receipts though. Playing Morrow last night was bad, but maybe it's not so crazy given that you can't throw a breaking ball in this series without it going yard.

SI.com got the measurements, and it's 100% changing the ability for the pitchers to throw a breaking ball. Over half an inch less of movement on Darvish's throws alone. Kershaw had the worst swing and miss rate on his breaking ball than at ANY OTHER POINT of his entire career. Don't act like this isn't some sketchy stuff. Maybe the MLB didn't intend to completely destroy the breaking ball, but I guarantee they did this to up the HRs. Well, it worked, so...congratulations?
Eh, I've been ragging on Roberts the whole series. Not sure about the validity of the baseballs being used so can't comment too much on that.

I'm not disagreeing with the receipts, I'm saying both squads are dealing with it. They cancel each other out. So than you move to the at bats. Well both are hitting well. So then you move to individual game changing plays and decisions, and the Astros have simply done better in that area.
It takes away the Dodgers' biggest advantage coming and plays to Houston's greatest strength. There's no way that "cancels out."
All season long the Dodgers relied on heavy bullpen usage and to win late when they had that advantage over the other team's relievers and closers. That's been totally taken away.
Even if the Dodgers win it all, this all feels goofy and wrong. You can change the ball between seasons, but it's madness to do so during the playoffs.

By SchuckyDucky Go To PostPulling for the Dodgers tonight. I want back to back 7 game World Series.Imagine how long game 7 would be. With pitchers completely gassed at this point, it would be like watching the HR derby in the late innings.
Slick balls or no slick balls, Dodgers, more specifically Roberts, have committed way too many errors. If we lose this series it's on us. Jansen not being able to close game 2, putting Morrow on in game 5, Yu Darvish collapsing on the biggest stage...etc, etc.
By SchuckyDucky Go To PostPulling for the Dodgers tomorrow night. I want back to back 7 game World Series.Travel day. Game is tomorrow.
I kept watching Dodgers highlights over the past 5 years or so today to get my hopes up. Some good times, and some sad times. Still pissed off that we could never get past the Cardinals. But then I remember the lean years in the late 90s and the first decade of the 2000's where every little success was like the World Series. Win or lose tomorrow, I'm proud of this team.
