I'm Mexican, but didn't get to learn Spanish growing up so I'm pretty weak in that area. I think hanging out here might help me brush up at least. I eat a ton of Marzipan so I think I got my bases covered so far.
Welcome Quzar.
Learning a different language is a tough task and even worse when you are older. Nice Jojo (?) Avatar

Yeah, I've taken quite a few Spanish courses so I have a rough understanding of the language. It's more of a lack of practice since my immediate family doesn't speak it. Yeah, Iggy is my dude.
I dropped it in the middle of Stardust. With all work, life, and vidya, it's hard to keep up with everything at the same time.
True, haven't been able to touch games due to school stuff. Bought Destiny 2 on PC, but not get to it till Thursday. Stardust was fun, but I didn't like it nearly as much as Battle Tendency. The arc after Stardust got pretty close though, can't wait for part 5 to come out.

Destiny 2 was a blast. 100 hours of great fun with friends.
Hello again and welcome everyone! It's nice to have a nice mix of nationalities in this thread. Hope we can make a good community over here :)
If I'm being completely honest, there's something that somewhat bothers me: people from other parts of the world tend to think there's just one single, monolithic "latino culture" and that, somehow, every country in Latin America is the same but with small regional variants. And I think that's patently wrong and reductionist.
While it's true we have some big things in common (our shared history has been shaped by conquest and colonization, we are all heirs to both native americans and europeans), every country - every region has its differences. And every people, every culture, has its own special quirks. There's actual diversity here, from the Patagonia to the Amazon, from the Rio Grande to the Magellan Strait. There's a lot to discover and a lot to love.
And don't even get me started on the somewhat naïve notion of "latinos can't be racist 'cause they're minorities" - because, as we all know, LatinAmerica was pretty much built on racism, a sort of caste system with the Europeans at the top - a system that runs through the blood of pretty much every country today. We're still fighting against it and we're still hoping for more inclusion so you're not treated like shit just because the color of your skin is different or your facial features don't conform to your preconceived notions of majority.
What do you think about that, brehs?

By Altazor12 Go To PostWhat do you think about that, brehs?I agree and it gets quite annoying with how we get grouped together because people don't want to put the work in and learn about the differences in culture. I definitely agree with the racist part of it too and see it a bit in my community where I live sadly.
Heck, Colombia has lots of diferences INSIDE. we are so different.

I’m Dominican-Spaniard, watching futbol with a feverish passion is about the only Spaniard thing left in me. I’ve had funny reactions about it when I speak Spanish since you know which parent raised me.
I mean, you have to admit it's difficult to keep track of all the different kinds of Mexicans out there. You have Spicy Mexicans, Arepa Mexicans, Island Mexicans, Socialism Mexicans, Samba Mexicans, Machu Picchu Mexicans, etc.
You know, I live in Japan and as totally clueless as Japan is about Mexico, I swear they have less misconceptions about Mexico than some people I've encountered online. I've been asked if I can speak Mexican or Portuguese, though :P (I'd love to learn a native Mexican language, though!).

Hope we can make a good community over here :)On certain points, I do agree with you, but I believe in the Latino/Latin American/Latinx/WhatEverYouWantToCallIt group as a way to stay allied with my fellow Latinos. I may participate in some of the smack talk amongst our tribes, but I'll be damned if some non-Latino says some racist BS about Central/South Americans or Caribbeans. I for one want others to know that they cannot feel comfortable talking crap about Latinos without thinking they are not insulting me as well.

Born and Rais...... well just born there.
One thing that kind of bugs me is that people fail to understand we Latinos come in all shades and colors.
No one believes I'm 100% Mexican cause of my light skin, or believe I'm related to my cousins.

I totally get you, man, and I agree. It's a shame that there's still a lot of outright racism between our peoples, though. Like, literally, here in Chile - a couple of months ago, some rich fuckers decided to call security on some haitian immgriants that were standing around, doing literally nothing illegal, just because they were black. Not fucking kidding you. Fucking racists.
Latinos are fucking racist. I grew up in a racist enviroment and it makes me sick.
People think Latinos are brown. Latinos can be very white and very racist

Afro-Latino, here. Parents were born in Brazil, but I was born here in NYC. I can get by with my Portuguese, but I struggle reading and spelling. Hoping y'all can help me here. Appreciate y'all Spanish heads, too.

Whenever people see me with my sister they assume we’re dating just cuz I’m brown and she’s white. She was once asked why she was dating a Mexican... smh... if these people knew my sister’s Bf is black. Lol.
And yeah, Latinos are racist. I feel bad for my sister’s S/O when he meets the rest of the fam. Gonna be so awkward.

Yuuup, the level of racism, sexism, and homophobia is prevelant all across latinx society too. Shits bad everywhere.
Even here within the pocket of communities throughout America it’s prevalent. I remember when my mom flipped a tit over dating a afro panamanian. Tbh I think I’ve helped move a side of my family from that mindset.
The shit I hear still tho, I’m like da fuq ???? I can’t stand this shit, how do you not see the power structures that made you hate your own kind of people !?
