I swear to god, I hope Otani comes to the Dodgers. Was pretty pissed when Darvish went to the Rangers and I never really wanted Maeda. I'm afraid of the DH spot being an advantage for AL teams. There's outfield spots open for the Dodgers, but it's a risk to have him play outfield. Only thing NL can offer him are pinch hit at bats as they happen every game apart from his pitching days.
Would be a huge advantage to have Otani on a NL team though.

By Theowulv Go To PostByron Buxton should win the golden glove for centerfield, right? I know I'm biased but still.
After this catch he made against the Indians, absolutely...

I wonder if the Yanquis bring up Gleyber next year.
This 'rebuild' has happened a lot quicker than expected. Loved seeing them play as well and reach as far as they did. Hope they can really build of this year.

Wholesale changes for the Cubs.
Not surprising... Cubs are to the Dodgers as Red Sox were to the Yankees in terms of the target for Epstein/Hoyer to chase. For this offseason, anyway.
Mickey Callaway's focus on curve balls could impact Mets in 2018
Very interesting read of the focus of the Curveball and the lack of reliance on it in the MLB here.

So now that the World Series is over, alot of player/team options will and have been accepted/declined. Anything surprising from your teams so far?
Curious what we do with Darvish and Morrow. Forsythe I see coming back and us picking up his option. BYE BYE Andre!

Depends on what Darvish asks for and if they think they can correct his tells.

Jesus Christ...
Devastating news out of West Central Florida. Halladay's single-engine Icon A5 was found in the water off the coast of Pasco County on Tuesday afternoon. He was piloting it solo. The native of Denver, Colorado won Cy Young Award honors in both the American League (2003, Blue Jays) and National League (2010, Phillies) before retiring in 2013 at the age of 36. He made eight All-Star teams, pitched a perfect game, and threw a no-hitter in his first-ever postseason start. "Doc" leaves behind a wife and two children.

Just saw the update. That's awful. I wonder if we'll find out details of how he went down.

By Jeff-DSA Go To PostPuig was robbed.Too many bat flips.
According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Major League Baseball and Nippon Professional Baseball have agreed to grandfather in the recently-expired posting system as it relates to Shohei Otani.Ham Fighters a bunch of dicks on the real.
That's a big development for Otani, who along with his representatives in Japan and his current Japanese team, the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, had been awaiting possible changes to the posting system. One proposal being floated would switch the posting fee from a lump sum (up to $20 million) to a percentage of the contract that Japanese players sign overseas. Otani is only 23 years old and is subject to international signing regulations, so his first MLB contract won't carry much up-front cash. That suggested change obviously didn't sit well with the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters and they refused to give it their necessary vote of approval. Otani, a uniquely-talented two-way star, recently hired CAA Baseball to represent him in North America and the pursuit of his services should soon get underway. We'll be tracking it closely here at Rotoworld.
By CruzAzul Go To PostGonna be a cold long winter.

By Smokey Go To PostWill #slickballz be a thing if the Dodgers lose with Otani next year? Will they bring them back right before the World Series again after not using them all year? Because nobody can deny that was criminal.
I have no issue changing the ball between seasons, but between playoff series? That's messed up. Teams should have to play for a championship under same conditions that they qualified under.
Shohei Otani said he's open to either pitching or hitting, or both, in the majors.Canot fathom him doing it, but he has the clout and opportunity to do it.
"I don't know if I'll be given the chance to be able to do it, so first of all, I'll have to listen to what they say," Otani told reporters Saturday in Tokyo in regards to whether he will be a two-way player in MLB. "You can't go after something like that unless you're in the right circumstance. It's not just about what I want to do." Otani's talent with both his arm and his bat make him an intriguing player for teams in both leagues, although the thought is that an AL club, where he can pitch one day and serve as a team's designated hitter when he's not pitching, might make more sense. There should be no shortage of suitors for the 23-year-old once he's posted.
By The Frankman Go To PostCanot fathom him doing it, but he has the clout and opportunity to do it.
The AL scenario would be a true 2 way player.
He gets to hit as a NL pitcher though so ...
It's not like there all pitchers are garbage at the plate. Greinke is a prime example. He takes pride in his swings too.
By blackace Go To PostI think it's just the wear and tear teams would stress
Which would only be stressed by the AL teams thinking of hitting him as the DH. The NL team can happily let him swing in practice for his shot at the plate 1-2 times a week.
