OH man what a thread to stumble upon being the new guy here.
Just Saw BTBAM (Between the Buried and Me) Colors 10 year tour and it was fucking fantastic, duh.
Look forward to contributing as much as possible in this thread, I'm definitely more of a prog-metal/rock guy. I've been drumming for just about 20 years and long time signatures.
Also, Hi.

Man I have yet to catch them live. Really wanted to this year but they didn't really come close to my area when they toured Europe.
By Combichristoffersen Go To PostHe's been cooking that solo stuff for quite some time. Hope it'll be on par with his SS albums. And that EHC will one day return.
For Megadeth I'd probably say the first four Metallica albums (and they don't really sound all that much like 'Deth). Other than that I can't think of anything quite like them.
For Maiden you might wanna check out melodic heavy/power metal like Judas Priest, Manowar, Battle Beast, Helloween, Gamma Ray, Tierra Santa, Bruce Dickinson solo, Ghost B.C. and Ghost Avenue.
Thanks, I'll take a look
I would love to listen everyone's recommendation for album of the year. Metal is probably the only rock subgenre where I find new awesome life-changing stuff every year. This year I really, really liked Royal Thunder's Wick. I've been a huge fan of the singer's voice since their first album. https://open.spotify.com/album/2Fzq1FQwvYIx8mtUtBYpOD
As I've gotten older I've grown to appreciate metal that's got some vocals. Like I may be in the minority, but I like In Flames's transition over the last several albums. Any recommendations for something like that?
I'm also into prog metal

So don't consider myself a metalhead anymore, used to listen to some of the more popular stuff like Pantera, Sepultura, Soulfly, RATM, Megadeth, Metallica, etc.
Recently tried to get back into it and am fucking lost. Checked out some Sunn O))) for drone and it seemed alright, and Rhapsody of Fire and liked them a bit. Then had no idea what any of the other sub genres were and felt overwhelmed.
So, I appreciate the thread. Will try to check some of these out and get back into the genre a bit.

The basic concept is like "what if instead of norway, black meetal originated in the deep south from slaves". :)

Absolutely hated In Flames at Copenhell this year. Thought they were real bad, without ever having any strong opinion on them one way or the other before.
But those youtube links... I like this. Sounds a bit like animals as leaders at times which is cool and good.
Just saw Leprous and The Dear Hunter live.
Leprous was awesome as expected.
Never heard of The Dear Hunter till last week, but I'm now I'm definitely a fan.
Although, is TDH considered metal even?
