I'm currently playing FF3/6 on the SNES Classic and it's pretty good so far.

I was going to say I play too(70 dragoon) but I'm on Ultros. I need to try out Omega but want to do most of the Yo-Kai event before it ends.

Might get back on 14 to try out the Ivalice stuff, but probably won't be back for real until the next job drops and it's not another DPS.

My kind of thread too. I'm a big fan of VIII and FFT:WOTL. I'm thoroughly enjoying Brave Exvius though.

If we're posting favorites my top three are VIII, Tactics and then VII and X fight each other for third.

We desperately need a new entry in the Tactics series that matches the serious tone of the original and FF12. That series needs more recognition and a chance to grow.

Always lurked the FF community on GAF but never posted. Top three for me are VI, VIII, and XII. Recently been replaying IX and it probably has the strongest opening out of any of them.

I just started 6 (er...3?) on my Kindle, and it's awful. Is it a much better game on SNES, or is it rough there too?

XIII doesn't deserve the hate (at least not all of it). Fight me.

Also, I had 30 hours in Final Fantasy XV before a hard drive mishap caused me to lose all of it (no cloud save at the time). Probably for the best considering the game apparently isn't "finished" yet. Might as well wait until they're done before jumping back in.

Crazy to think this series has been around for 30 years. It's older than me...

God, those mobile ports bum me out. Especially if they're how some people experience those games for the first time.

I thought it was perfectly fine. I loved the soundtrack and really enjoyed wandering around the world. Losing my save killed the wind in my sails but I plan on going back to it eventually.

I'm okay with people criticizing it but overall I enjoyed it enough. The game was an incredibly fun experience for me and while I really disliked the stories direction, the gameplay and quests gave me endless play time.

Not from me at least. I recognize there are flaws with the story and combat but I really think Square can refine the template they made into something special. I just hope they keep making games like Bravely and Octopath Traveler for whenever I get the turn based itch

For various reasons, I haven't gotten around to starting FFXV. The whole 'update x.x adds new scene and feature in chapter x' thing just makes me want to wait until it's finally deemed 'complete' to finally get in the car with Noct and gang. I love the soundtrack though.... Shimomura is amazing.

I want both honestly....FFXV's real time combat was really fun and worked insanely well. I also want that classic turn based gameplay too.....so I'm hoping they don't just favor one or the other

Uh, I honestly had no idea there was a kindle version of 6. I have no idea what that runs or looks like. On the SNES Classic it's pretty much perfect. I'm really happy with it so far. Old school and a little stiff for sure, but that was the norm for the time.

This makes sense now. I kept thinking, "Why does this look so weird?" Something about the timing for that version feels off, too, but I can't put my finger on it. Speaking of fingers, touchscreen controls were a nightmare with the first Moogle tower defense thing.

I've never played 12 before; I skipped it because I never could get into MMO battle systems. But after Xenoblade I thought I'd give it a shot.

But fuck man, this has got to be the most convoluted game in the franchise. I have no idea what I'm doing lol. I want to get into it but with so much else coming out right now I'm sort of finding it hard to care enough to try and play it.

Only reason I didn’t like XII is because it somehow feels slower than FFXI......it’s just not my style. I love the design though.....it’s a beautiful game

Not me...while I recognize the game does have flaws, I was one of the few on Gaf that really enjoyed the game despite that.

I recognize that Final Fantasy is different for different people. After my long hiatus from the series, XV brought back some element that I felt was missing, even though it was somewhat rough at times. It was one of my favorite games this gen. Hopefully SE takes the right lessons and improves the design and story presentation for FF XVI.

I also was getting back into XII but had to stop because I was getting busy. Won't be able to return for some time, but I was enjoying the battle system and world this time around. The story itself has ups and downs, but they nailed the dungeon-crawling aspect quite well.

Haven't played a ton of FF games, but wanting to slowly work through more. So far I've only beaten VII (+ CC & DoC), XIII (+2 & LR), XV, and WoFF so can't exactly make a good top three list LMAO, but I own VIII, X&X-2, XII, and Type-0 so I'll get there eventually. XII is probably next on my list, but I've been on a crazy Zelda kick so it's on the backlog for now.

I will say I was pretty dang disappointed on XV from a story standpoint (which I can get very Opinionated about so I won't go into that ahaha), but the gameplay, dungeons, and banter were crazy fun. I plan to replay it after all the DLC and patches are out and everything is complete to see if my opinion changes.
Funnily enough, XV is the whole reason I found gaf. So despite letting me down, it's still a fairly important game in my life. I had started following it pretty closely the year before release and joined gaf because I wanted to get into the discussion about it. Unfortunately I didn't get my account approved until after it was released, and well then I didn't wanna be a debbie downer by ragging on it so didn't get to participate much. I had been looking forward to joining in on the discussions there for whenever the next FF was announced but... RIP lmao

I really hope not, one of the things I hated about gaf was how every XV thread turned into a shitpost circlejerk, you couldn’t have any discussion without having the thread burned to the ground by the same posters.

On topic of favorites, I’d say X is first for me, it was my first FF and will always hold a special place in my heart, XII takes the second, the story was boring and unmemorable, I don’t give a shit about politics, I don’t even remember much of it to be honest, what I liked about it was the world and combat, it also gave us balthier, and third place goes to XV, it’s a flawed gem, loved the bros, combat (many people think it’s shit but I actually think it’s the best in the series) and the awesome villain, just wish he was a little more developed, world was kinda meh, not many fantasy locations and we all know the problems with the story, but even with all the troubled development of the game to be able to deliver something which made me care for the characters and made my eyes tear is amazing, so yes, it’s something special and I hope more people go into the game with an open mind and experience the game for what it is.

Speaking of XII I really need to play Zodiac version so I can judge the changes for myself. I had a lot of problems with the original game(still loved it though) and the changes made should have been enough to fix a lot of my problems.

I'm about halfway through XII. Enjoying it more than I did the first time around. Plus, Ivalice is my favorite FF setting.

I definitely need to get around to trying out XII Zodiac, still. My backlog is ridiculous, and I'm trying to hold off on starting a big game so that when .hack//GU remake comes out in a few weeks I'll be ready to play it right away.
I'll just be chipping away at dog farming on XIV in the meantime :P

XII Zodiac on Switch would be my shit. I still haven't played that game to completion but having it on the go would definitely push me to go back to it.

Almost fucked up on the Pumpkin boss. He's a lot stronger than he was last year. lol. Got hit with the swipe and "all my friends are dead". Ayaka saved that first run. Had to do it twice. Went back with a friend A2 and bursted him down in about 3-4 turns.

I didn't realize that Ayaka was so strong. lol. I guess, this was my first time actually trying her out since her banner.

The final boss for this week is probably going to be nutz, if ELT is anything to go by.

Long time lurkers here (Mainly FootyGAF & FGCGAF). Registered on GAF a decade ago with uni email, lost access to it when graduated and never found out if I was ever approved. I was more of a reader and passive participant though so never bothered trying again. Didn't feel like introducing myself on the GAF thread while everyone still on heated discussion regarding EL so thought I'd do the honor here instead ^^

Played 4 all the way to 15 minus 11 (Tactics, CC, Revenant Wings included) and loved them all, yes even the Lightning Trilogy!

It's too bad that lightning ruined a generation of FF games. They were my favorite series of games from when I was a wee lad until the launch of 13. I could never fux with any of them after that.

I recently played through VII, IX, X and XV, some for the first time and some were replays. I hadn't played IX that much at all before (only the first hour or so years ago) and I really enjoyed it, but the slow battles were rather annoying at times. Will probably buy the PS4 version at some point, most likely when it's cheaper.

My favourites are VII and X. Still need to play the 2D ones.

Also, I'm hoping they put VIII on PS4.
