By Selina Go To PostAlso, I'm hoping they put VIII on PS4.
Crossing my fingers that they would at least announce this as part of the 30th anniversary celebration. I enjoyed IX but never fond of replaying it again for some reason but I'd be all over VIII. That was my most played of all.
Fond memories of using ABrea's power up guide to break the game from the early part from card modding and junctioning.

Because that might be one of the reasons it's taking a bit longer. It's incredible how long they're taking for some ports like that.
Still waiting on a price cut of IX. Not gonna pay that much.
By viciousds Go To Postso people are not going to shit on FFXV here are they? Because I actually liked it quite a bit despite its flaws. Was going to play it on release but got busy then, and then players feedback was that it was okay-ish or mediocre. Then I realized how much everything I loved about it changed with time so I stopped caring. Will play someday though. It doesn't look bad but after 10 years of waiting I expected more; development hell together with changes in character designs and atmosphere (was supposed to be dark and all that in contrast to FF 13) took away lots of my excitement :/
Yeah, I don't understand that. I know VIII is on Steam so it's not like they don't already have a PC version to port over.

Graphics looked sharper and framerate was better. Would be surprised if they didn't improve upon the first PC improvement.

I was disappointed at IX being announce first for PS4 but I'm sure VIII will come so I'm fine with it now. They seem to be teasing VIII quite a lot in regards to remakes or events so maybe they're just saving the announcement for something.
I gave Pumpkin boss a shot and got destroyed lol I'm going to try with a double Tidus chain and hope it helps.

Almost fucked up on the Pumpkin boss. He's a lot stronger than he was last year. lol. Got hit with the swipe and "all my friends are dead". Ayaka saved that first run. Had to do it twice. Went back with a friend A2 and bursted him down in about 3-4 turns.
I didn't realize that Ayaka was so strong. lol. I guess, this was my first time actually trying her out since her banner.
The final boss for this week is probably going to be nutz, if ELT is anything to go by.

By Wazzy Go To PostSpeaking of XII I really need to play Zodiac version so I can judge the changes for myself. I had a lot of problems with the original game(still loved it though) and the changes made should have been enough to fix a lot of my problems.
I played it at a friend's and it's great. The 2x and 4x speed up is wonderful and the new job licence boards; it adds a new element of individuality to the characters. Was a bit bummed if didn't end up on the Vita as well, since it's so much easier to game on the go for me now.
XII is one of the greats. The first third is this tight, swirling vortex of Matsuno awesomeness. Then it sort of unravels, with Ito, Minagawa and Kawazu probably having to jettison and reconfigure the plot to get the game out. I imagine we were probably originally supposed to visit Rozarria with Al Cid as a guest character. Bigger roles for the judges. A more involved final dungeon. What we ended up with was compromised but magnificent nonetheless.

XV was great. I put over 100 hours into it and I'm still not done. I don't see how it gets the hate it does (I can totally see how it gets the hate it does). It's the Metal Gear Solid V of Final Fantasy.
also, I have VIII loaded on the Vita ready to play but I'm waiting for (hoping for) the PS4 remastered edition announcement.

It isn’t perfect by any means, large swaths of the story remain empty for you to fill in the gaps, but I loved traveling around the world listening to my favorite Final Fantasy songs. I loved exploring new dungeons, some being quite memorable and up there with the rest of the series. I loved bonding with Prompto and Ignis, finding new places to take pictures and building up new recipes. I really want to play it again but I’m waiting for all the DLC to come out. Also, will probably be playing it on PC by then.

Hello everyone, my favorites are 6,7,9. Currently playing FFXIV. Also I gotta say that 9 is better than 8 #sorrynotsorrywazzy
I'm going to be making a separate VIII thread so I don't have to crowd up this one with a giant wall of stuff from my GAF thread. It was originally an anniversary thread but here I'll just make it an official thread and anyone can use it for updates regarding it releasing on PS4 or remake stuff can be posted in it.
It's okay IX is good just not as good as VIII :]

Honestly speaking, I think the remastered soundtrack of The Zodiac Age really brought that game to life in a way I hadn’t felt before. My latest playthrough really brought up that game in my rankings.
If they're going to be adding these crazy bosses then the rewards need to be much better than what they are.
Nightmare difficulty is no joke. Got the King down to around 60% and got wiped. Only A2 and Zargabro survived.😣

It's still a toss-up for me between VII and XII. But X is a close one in the race too. After replaying XII: Zodiac Age, I think VII was much better paced, and if they maintain that with the remake, it'll probably stay as my all time favorite.
Zodiac Age makes it very easy to get back into the game for those who felt like XII was too slow (walking) and too massive (trekking). The speed up options help a ton to get through some really slow dungeons and sections.
By Selina Go To PostI really couldn't get into FFXII back in 2006, but I want to try again with The Zodiac Age.

My personal problem was that I love turn-based battle systems, so going from X to XII was really disorienting for me, it put me off, but over the years I've learnt to like the real-time style, so maybe I'll like it more this time round.
By Grimsat Go To PostSo we all agree on the platforming dungeon in XV is the best in the series right?I got to the entrance of that place but couldn't get inside. It looked ridiculous though.

6 > 9 > 12 and 10 being the worst.
I have always said that. 9's opening is so god damn strong, it's got so much forward momentum and I swear there's no chill till at least disc 2. It's phenomenal with how it hooks you.
By TheRightDeal Go To PostAlways lurked the FF community on GAF but never posted. Top three for me are VI, VIII, and XII. Recently been replaying IX and it probably has the strongest opening out of any of them.

Awful character designs. Tidus looks like me in the 6th grade after I unzipped the bottom halves of my pants (remember those?) and I lost a leg. And he's not even the worst. terrible villains. A game more tragic than the story it was attempting to tell.
Okay... it's not THAT horrible. Just didn't jive with me :p. For what it's worth, I "get" the laughing scene.
You need to get (back) on that XI wave tho

For me, you may not like FFX, but everything it tried to do, it did a pretty good job. The characters make sense for the story, the world feels alive, etc. Just on the gameplay alone it could never be the worst. FFX, FFX-2, FFXII, and FFXIII/LR easily have the best designed battle systems in the series. FFVI through FFIX's typical ATB systems don't even come close.
Edit: I do agree the clothes in FFX are pretty bad as a whole.

I really like Yuna's design, though, and Auron is one of the best characters in the franchise I think. I like Lulu too (but wth with those belts), Rikku is my girl too. But yeah overall the designs are pretty eh, the less we talk about Seymour's hair the better. The English VA is pretty bad too (actually has FF ever had good English VA?).

I love the battle system though and I think it has one of the best endings to any Final Fantasy.
I know Tidus doesn't have the greatest design but overtime I've come to like how ridiculous and colorful his outfit is. It stands out quite a bit and I'm okay with it.
Lulu bothers me because it's a good design ruined by the horrible belts.

Lulu is mostly ruined because, while super cute, her attack animation is as long as PS1-era summons.

Lulu and Auron are standouts, that are sadly weaker than the negatives of the game for me. I actually would have preferred a young Auron/Jecht story compared to what we ultimately had to. The VA isn't that bad, especially considering how early on we were on grand scale voice acting in games. I thought what was done was decent for it's time.
I think at the end of the day, it's ultimately the setting/world that makes it bad for me. Do you incorporate X-2 as apart of it's ending?

Tidus is probably the weakest member of the cast, which is usually a nono for me unless the supporting members are strong, but they mostly play it way too straight, or in Rikku's case, too far in the other direction. I like a good balance in my cast. I feel like other Final Fantasies do everything X tries to do better, especially the love story, which is the best part of 8, for example. I hate 8's supporting cast outside of Rinoa, and I genuinely love her relationship with Squall and how they both grow as characters, and come together. I never bought Tidus and Yuna, which I feel you kinda have to to really enjoy that game(s).

I've already said my opinion but my stance on XV is that while I'm disappointed with how it was handled it ended up being a fun experience. I don't have a lot of positives to say about the story and how it was presented but the gameplay and exploration made the game so much longer and better.

I didn't like FFXV. My expectations were pretty low but I still beat the game feeling extremely disappointed. The combat felt clunky, the pacing was abominable, and the story didn't intrigue me. Not to add to the myriad of problems game design wise. It was clearly a rushed game. I have sympathy for the developers that worked so hard on it though.
The music, for me, failed to deliver. There are only two songs I could see myself listening to again. It's okay to have your own style, but some of the songs are way too similar to other Yoko Shimomura songs. I feel like she used the same instrumentation, harmony, key, time signature, and even tempo. She isn't the only composer guilty of this though.
If FFXV is what I am to expect of future FFs...I don't think I'll be playing loyally anymore.
All I can do is hope that they leave FFX alone (unless they make a prequel with Auron, Braska, and Jecht).

So i don’t think I fully finished 6 when I was younger, so looking forward to playing that next on the Vita. Also, I would love a new Tactics game on the Switch!

Even bought the FFXV Ultimate Edition, though I then convinced myself to pass on the FFXII one just this once since it was a bit too pricey for those Judges things, and since I went so expensive on that ultimate edition for the previous S-E purchase, and I know I'll probably go for the expensive version of KH whenever it comes if that's next.
